From its foundations to the stylish interior every inch of Gap Lodge has been primped and preened to Linda and Le Roi’s exacting standards. With just three double rooms this is a small and ideal pocket of calm in the most vibrant part of the Mother City, within 5 minutes’ drive of Table Mountain and within walking distance of the restaurants of Kloof and Long Streets. Each bedroom is practical and stylish with an antique hanger here and a vase of fresh lilies there, crisp white linen and towels offset by bold orange or blue bedheads. Linda’s artistry decorates the earth-coloured walls with bold and beautiful paintings. After a deep sleep on “the best mattress in Cape Town” – thus spake a previous guest but I had a go too and it is indeed magically giving yet supportive! - Linda conjures up an exceptional full breakfast. Le Roi personally tailors day trips or tours for guests. Having worked as a tour guide since 2002 with his own company (Gap Tours), Le Roi is a fountain of knowledge and will whisk guests away in the house mini-bus. For anyone who has spent a morning queuing, sweating and possibly even swearing in a tourist information office, going on your own personalised tour with Le Roi is like being upgraded from the luggage hold to first class. From ‘Flora, Fauna and Vino’ day trips to golf tours he will take all the hassle out of holiday-making. ‘Beyond the call of duty’ is an unfamiliar phrase to this couple: Linda has even been known to raid her own wardrobe on behalf of those guests who forget to pack essential items of clothing!
