Julie was incredibly helpful. She recommended three places to dine, which we tried and loved. The bed was also comfy. Overall, a great stay.
January 2012Julie is a friendly and accommodating host and her place is awesome! Super clean and thoughtfully stocked with everything you need. Julie also prepared a helpful welcome letter with information about activities and restaurants in the area. We had a wonderful time and would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation.
I stayed at Julie's Rhododendron Rooms while in Eureka for business. It was so much better than a hotel! The place is clean, cute, comfortable, and stocked with the necessities. I also liked the letter Julie left providing answers to any questions I could have and giving suggestions for places to eat and things to do. What can be done better? Add a power strip to the bedroom to plug in my various devices, although maybe that's against some California safety law? That's about it.
We stayed two nights at the rhododendron room (which is really its own apartment) and could easily have stayed longer. Julie is the perfect hostess. She had everything prepared for our stay (organic coffee and teas, fruit, filtered water, a fully equipped kitchen, and she even left us cream in the fridge!!! ) The apartment was very clean and came stocked with books and games as well. We stayed warm even though it was raining out and we found her home to be in great proximity to downtown,... More »
Our stay in the Rhododendron Rooms was fantastic. We drove up the California Coast from the SF Bay Area to the Willamette Valley with one night in Eureka. We got a bit of a late start, and so didn't get into Eureka until close to 7, but Julie didn't seem to mind. Indeed, she was very friendly when we showed up at her door, gave us the key to the apartment, and then we didn't see her again — this is just how we like it. The apartment itself was very clean and comfortable, and more than... More »
The Rhododendron Rooms is definitely a place I'd love to stay again! I had booked the room for a friend's birthday, and we were so excited when we walked into the unit...full kitchen with anything you'd need for a stay, a beautiful bathroom and the most comfy bed imaginable! It was extremely clean and welcoming-there was even fruit and everything to make coffee! :) We met Julie briefly as we were leaving for a night out, and she was very nice and a gracious host. Thanks, Julie!... More »
What a place! The 'room' is really a furnished apartment. We stayed here a couple of nights and as many already mentioned, it is centrally located; it's walking distance to downtown and a short drive to the coast. We highly recommend the Rhododendron room for anyone traveling up north, skip the hotel scene. Too bad we didn't meet Julie!
Julie offers a very comfortable one bedroom apt attached to her house in Eureka. The bed is quite comfortable. A plate of fresh fruit is a pleasant welcome plus coffee and cream (in the fridge) is available. We stayed with Julie while visiting our son who attends the Humboldt University and very pleasantly surprised by how nice, comfortable and clean the accommodations were. We highly recommend it... Thanks Julie...
Julie's place felt like we were staying in our own private suite. Everything was very clean, and we appreciated the space heaters to keep us warm during the chilly nights! Julie was kind enough to leave a list of places to visit, eat, and explore- which was very helpful.
Julie is an amazing host. I accidentally locked myself out of the apartment while retrieving my suitcases from the car and she rescued me right away. NOTE: I somehow managed to not unlock the door completely when I entered. Pay attention to the handle when you leave if you just going to the car for something. The apartment is neat, clean, and has plenty of room for one to two people comfortably. The kitchen is very nice and I appreciated the coffee/ creamer/ sugar and organic fruit... More »
Rhodendron Rooms was clean, warm and easy. A cozy place with character to call home on a cold and misty Eureka night. Couldn't be better!
Wonderful place for a very reasonable price. The location was nice (about a mile from downtown - I walked to dinner each of the three nights, though I'm more inclined to walk places than most folks), the room - it's really a small apartment - was spacious, well stocked, clean, and very pleasantly furnished and decorated. Little touches make a big difference - they way Julie had personalized the note she left me, tailoring it to my specific interests, the pitcher of filtered water in the... More »
MY HUSBAND AND I FOUND JULIE TO BE A WONDERFUL HOSTESS, AND SHE DID STOCK THE REFRIG WITH HALF&HALF AND THERE WAS FRESH FRUIT ON THE COUNTER. WE SAW HER ONLY ONCE, WHEN SHE CAME TO COLLECT THE GARBAGE AND THE RECYCLE IN THE POURING RAIN. WAY TO GO, JULIE! THE APARTMENT IS SPACIOUS AND WE LOVED THE KITCHEN WHERE WE PREPARED 2 DINNERS AND ALL OUR BREAKFASTS. THE HELLO KITTY TOASTER IS THE GREATEST. JULIE'S COZY RENTAL AND HOME ARE IN A NEIGHBORHOOD OF REALLY GEORGEOUS HOMES....I... More »
Nice place. I had just spent the night in a terrible motel and booked the Rhododendron Rooms on short notice. What a breath of fresh air. It was clean, comfortable, and centrally located. While there I visited The Lost Coast and Redwood Groves both north and south. I would stay there again anytime! Thanks Julie!
The Rhododendron Room exceeded our families expectations. We arrived with 2 sleeping children late in the evening and walked in to a wonderful and cute little apartment and set up the sleeping mat and sheets that were left out for our kids. The entire home was incredibly clean and the fresh organic fruit left out for us in the kitchen was gobbled up in the morning. Julie gave us fantastic recommendations on where to spend our day, from breakfast to wonderful nature hikes near Crescent City.... More »
The town was very cute and Julie was quite nice in the few minutes we spoke with her. She also provided us with several suggestions of places to see in the area, most of which we were unable to do since we were only stopping for the night, but it is nice to have that information for the future. The apartment was clean and comfortable; just make sure to bring your own toiletries. The area was quite and pretty much exactly what we were looking for.
We enjoyed our stay at the Rhododendron Rooms on our drive up the pacific coast. It was a comfortable bed in quiet neighborhood. We appreciated the two space heaters in the apartment that helped us deal with the damp cold out there. Also, Julie was kind enough to leave a list with good places to eat in the city and places to check out as we continue our drive up the coast. Our only regret is that we didn't get a chance to use the hello kitty toaster.
The apartment is delightful, clean, and comfortable. The coffee was great and the kitchen was inviting. While I can't disagree about it being a somewhat noisy street if you're used to living in the countryside....for an urban apartment I thought it was very quiet and nice. There were cars going by but no trucks or emergency vehicles....so I thought it was very comfortable. Julie left us a list of things to do around Eureka and it was very helpful since that was our first time up in the... More »
The best place to stay in Eureka! Even with a baby! Thank you Julie - your home and hospitality were wonderful.
Great fairly large very clean and cozy place with fresh fruit left out for me and great coffee to sip on in the morning. It was easy to find and a great place. The only complaint was the traffic noise was a bit loud but other than that it was a fabulous place to stay.
Julie is sweet and the place was clean and spacious. It was more than enough room for two and walking distance from good coffee and town. Will come back again. Nice job Julie!
We had a great stay here. The apartment was just as advertised - bedroom, bath, small kitchen. Very clean. Julie stocked some fruit and coffee, which was a lifesaver for an early morning road trip departure. It's about a mile from downtown Eureka, so not a bad walk.
Julie's place is AWESOME!!!! We were overjoyed to find such a wonderful, and affordable, place to stay on the coast!! First, Julie's little apartment is very modern and up-to-date. The original craftsmanship of the house gives it a great deal of character, from the original hard wood floors to the gorgeous original glass in the windows, but all of the appliances are shiny and new!! The apartment is very clean and well maintained, and we were greeted with fresh fluffy towels, and super... More »
Julie place is really nice and comfortable close to markets and food And a short drive from downtown. I had a nice time
Had a great stay here. It was comfortable and very clean!
Julie was extremely helpful and welcoming to us! we stayed 2 nights and the apt is well equipped with free wifi, kitchen, laundry (for $5 fee) and very comfortable queen sized bed! I slept so well there! The apt is newly decorated, clean, and so cute. It is conveniently located in Eureka, and Julie leaves a nice note of places to go, things to see and great restaurants in the area! Such a great deal. I'm so glad I found her place!
Great host. Shared tips on places to eat, things to see. The Brick and Fire reataurant was tops.
Location is great for exploring the redwoods and NOR-CAL coast. Stayed 3 days. Fine place for 2 people, far superior to a hotel. Nothing fancy but all the basic necessities, frig, stove, oven, wine opener, clean bed and bath. In a neighborhood with many beautiful homes, great for walking. Had several great meals at places Julie recommended (don't miss Fire and Brick, we only had salads and an appetizer and are now fans). Would stay there again. Only complaint was the traffic noise when we... More »
Very accomodating host. Able to provide us with alternate check-in options rather than a set time of day. Space was very clean and comfortable. Brand new kitchen (although we did not use it). Hot shower - much appreciated after a long day's travel. Cozy, comfy and clean bed. Was on a busier street, however slept fine, felt safe. Not walking distance to downtown - however plenty of parking if wished to drive. Julie had very nice recommendations on local food and sites! Very organized... More »
We are very grateful to Julie and her rental which is located in her home yet separate and with its own entrance. The apartment was very clean, modest and charming......There was nothing cookie cutter (Motelish) about it.and that's what made it unique and homey. It was lovely to have a kitchen for snacks, food prep etc.---...Just like home...There was half and half in the fridge, filtered water, Pelligrino, coffee/tea, and a bowl of fruit waiting for us as well. :) A nice touch.... Clean and well equipped. Only about a mile from the Old Town area and an easy drive. Julie was very gracious.
I stayed here for a few days while visiting some state parks around the area. It's a very nice set of connected, private rooms - a bit big for one person I thought, but probably perfect for two. Eureka seems to be a nice, smallish town, though I didn't have as much time as I could have wished to explore. I didn't see Julie much, since the rooms are separated from the house, but she was always extremely helpful when I needed anything.
Everything was exactly as described. Julie left some very helpful information about the local area that helped me figure out what to do when I was there. Great experience and a great deal.
The place was neat and tidy and comfortable. On a busy road, but slept just fine.
This cute little apartment is perfect for two people. The layout is a bit unusual (you have to walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom) but we thought the brand-new kitchen and overall neat-and-clean feel were great. There was even a space heather in the bedroom to keep us toasty and basic appliances in the kitchen. There's not much to do in Eureka, and this accomodation is not really walking distance to the old town or wharf area, but it was a perfect solution for our needs. It's... More »
I enjoyed my stay very much. I'm very picky about the bathrooms at places I stay; this one was modern and clean. There were very nice linens and the whole place was really cute and nicely decorated. It is next to a main street, so if you're super sensitive to noise then it may not be you're thing. However, it does quiet down at night. This place is a GREAT value!
We traveled to Eureka for my husbands birthday and to see the Jazz Fest and Julie's place was great! Very conveniently located and in a nice neighborhood. Though it was a bit gray and rainy (as Eureka can be in March) we went for a run around the neighborhood everyday. On one of our runs we found a fantastic bakery where we quickly undid all the good our run did for us. The apartment is cozy. The bed was super comfy and the sheet nice and soft as were the towels. I meant to ask what brand... More »
The apartment was clean, but very basic. It would have been helpful to have a reading lamp and end tables on both sides of the bed since there's no T.V. It's also on a very busy street and cars drive quite fast. However, we weren't troubled by traffic noise. We didn't meet Julie, but she's very helpful on the phone and left us a bowl of fresh fruit which came in handy and was much appreciated. Her restaurant suggestions were also very useful as we used two of them and were very happy... More »
We just spent 3 nights at the Rhododendron Rooms and it really worked out great. While it is not impressive from the outside the rooms are very clean and there is a brand new, fully equipped kitchen. Julie left out a fruit plate, coffee and tea and there was even a a bottle of sparkling water and fresh carton half and half in the refrigerator; a very nice touch. The rooms enjoy a private entrance which was nice because we were coming and going frequently. We have relatives in the area and so... More »
Excellent! Clean, affordable, convenient, nice place!
Because we arrived late (and with late notice!) we only briefly met Julie but she had organised a key and local information and advice for us which was very nice. The apartment itself was lovely, very nicely set out and well appointed kitchen and bathroom, had a very comfortable nights sleep and would recommend the place to any other AirBnB travelers!
Clean, quiet, affordable, convenient location. No problems in 10+ stays. Julie is easy to work with and a very nice person.
Julie's place was wonderful! Nice space (surprisingly large), excellent shower. She was very accommodating about our late check in and gave us an awesome breakfast place recommendation (Los Bagels! We are now big fans).
I was late in arriving in town around 10pm, the key was in a safe location, the place was clean & dry. Julie, my host, was very easy to communicate with, providing me with accurate directions and responding to any concerns promptly. The first night of my stay I locked myself out of the room with a small child sleeping inside, which with no front desk as in hotels I was slightly confused as to what i should do. Julie was there in the front house available to assist with the lockout. I will... More »
Had a great experience staying here! The place is well taken care of, clean and cozy!
Julie is very welcoming and a delightful host. She's very considerate (she even baby proofed the room and had toys set out for our little boy- which he loved). We had a great time. The place is neat, cozy and centrally located in town. I would highly recommend staying here. We enjoyed every minute!
Julie's place is a great bargain. I would definitely stay here again. She provides luxurious linens and towels and a fully equipped kitchen. I didn't mind so much that there was no TV; however, given that fact, we would have liked some reading lamps next to the sofa and chair and one more in the bedroom. We were pleasantly surprised to find Half n Half, bubbly water, coffee and some fruit waiting for us upon check-in. Situated in a lovely neighborhood, we had fun driving around... More »
Julie's place is nice, clean and comfortable. It's a little ways away from old town and needs some more appointments like desk lamps and a TV. However, she is as accommodating and friendly as expected. Sincerely, Eric & Janice
Terrific value with a complete kitchen & dishes, sitting/living room area, bath, good-sized bedroom, hardwood floors. Very clean. Comfortable bed, nice towels. Charming neighborhood that was easy to find. Julie was very accommodating & the arrangements simple. Enjoyed my stay! - Linda A
Very positive experience. The little kitchen was great to have and whole place was clean and comfortable. A real find.
Absoloutely wonderful! It really felt like our own little home. It was sparkly clean with a fantastic kitchen and I have to agree with all the other reviews that the bed was extremely comfortable! And to top it off Julie was a wonderful host. Thankyou!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and easy to locate. Agree about the bed - the towels were great, too! The arrangements with Julie were a breeze. We look forward to our next visit.
Nice, clean, convenient, affordable. Thank You, Julie
Julie is a very pleasant host and this is a nice place to stay in Eureka. Very clean, good value, nicely outfitted 1 bedroom unit, easy location near historic old town and nice Victorians. I would definitely recommend the Rhodo Room!
The apartment is very nice. It's clean, cozy, tastefully decorated and centrally located. I would definitely stay here again the next time I'm in the area.
We enjoyed the place which was modern, cosy, yet private. Bed was very comfortable indeed. Would highly recommend staying here!
Apartment is adorable, and the bed really is incredibly comfortable! Julie was even thoughtful enough to leave a bottle of spritzer in the mini fridge and coffee in the kitchen. The communication and logistics were simple and straightforward. Thanks Julie!
Very nice stay. Comfortable bed, and great value. We'll be back again!
Charming place with great bones. Sticky doors - part of the charm, of course. Best part? Most comfortable bed I've slept in in years!
