We are no different from everyone else who's visited Sally's cabin, in that we wish it could've been a longer stay. It takes time to adjust to peace and solitude! We were just getting into the swing of it when it was time to leave. So, fond hopes that we will be able to return, next time in warmer weather so we'll be able to make more use of the outdoor portion of the cabin. The indoor part was just great, though, in particular you'll have a hard time finding ANYTHING made of plastic! And... More »
October 2011All I can saw is WOW! If you are looking to escape your busy lifestyle and get back to nature...this is the place for you. My husband and I absolutely adored our 4 night stay at Sally's little piece of heaven. Her cabin provided us with everything we needed and then some. We got to meet Sally our first night there and she was very informative about places to visit and eat. We fell in love with the cabin and it's surroundings. I especially enjoyed the peaceful feeling I had as I sat and... More »
This place was a PERFECT fall retreat. So many thoughtful and inspiring details--the cutest stove and oven on the planet, clawfoot tub on the screened-in porch, and wood-fired sauna. Sally is a lovely host and knows the area well. We definitely want to stay again. Thanks, Sally!
Sally is a wonderful host and her cabin is a serene, beautiful place to unwind and take in the sounds of nature and lovely surroundings. We were thoroughly impressed with everything, from the attention to detail given to the well-equipped cabin, to the linens, towels, natural soaps, etc. provided. The cabin is in a great location to enjoy the many amenities the Finger Lakes offer, including wineries/vineyards, hiking, forests, etc. We really didn't want to leave, and are looking forward to... We had a wonderful stay in Sally's cabin. It was well equipped with everything someone would need for their stay. I was impressed with how clean the cabin was and the quality of the linens/towels. Sally was very helpful. She even left detailed instructions on how to operate the cabin and had brochures on local attractions. Definetely plan to go back soon.
A vacation we won't forget! We took a step back in time and let go of the daily clutter of our lives. This was the perfect way to enjoy the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes. Seize this opportunity if you want a truly unique experience -- you will not be disappointed. Barb & Paul Northeast Wisconsin
A quiet and calm stay with a wonderful, principled and professional host. This was an experience of the highest quality.
Great cabin near the vineyards and lake. Clean, comfortable, and peaceful. Next time we hope to visit when it is colder and can have a chance to try out the sauna that looks fantastic.
We loved this delightful little cabin tucked into quiet woods of the finger lakes. It's a perfect spot for those us refined yet rustic tastes. Sally is a wonderful and thoughtful host. We arrived late to the whistle of screech owls in the hollow below us; slept soundly in the warm and cozy loft; spent our morning sipping coffee around the campfire just off the porch. Perfect.
We had a great time! Very secluded, cozy cabin. Sally was very helpful and accommodating. Would definitely rent again.
sally is a great host and the cabin is a cozy cute place, very nice, in a beautiful region. I'd come back anytime
We wanted a place that was a good mix of roughing it and civilization, and this was it. Good location for wine tasting, hiking, and town. Sally was a great resource for the area and was gracious enough to let us borrow from her vegetable garden. The cabin was delightful and very unique. Highly recommend it!
I had some pretty high expectations for this cabin, based on all the great reviews, and the beautiful pictures, and truly, it exceeded every single one. We arrived at night (not as planned - we ran late leaving), and while it was easy as pie to find, I felt like we suddenly stumbled upon a haven in the middle of the forest. I knew as soon as I stepped on the porch that I would not want to leave. Two nights went by too fast! God is in the details, they say, and that certainly rings true for... More »
Sally is amazing. Her place is amazing. We COULD NOT HAVE IMAGINED A MORE PERFECT PLACE TO STAY. My husband, who prefers not to leave the house :) used the word "spoiled" to describe our experience. If you are looking for peace and quiet, an escape from list making and white noise and a reason to stare into the woods for hours and reconnect with your body's natural rhythms in response to nature--then I can't imagine a more perfect setting. And if you want a place along the wine,... More »
Sally's place was awesome. A dream come true!
The cabin is adorable! well picked interior complements perfect design. The indoor/outdoor kitchen and bathroom were fun to use, and the whole thing sits among trees and stars for a wonderfully peaceful place to stay.
Very comfortable place for two people. Enjoyed a 4 day stay in this charming cabin. Perfect place to be if you like to be up close with the sounds of nature and don't mind a short jaunt to composting outhouse. Would suggest bringing camp cooking tools for outdoor campfire cooking if you plan to eat in. Jane & Jerry ~~~ New Hampshire
Beautiful Tiny cabin in the Woods! Everything you need is provided. Peace & Reflection for two or three Max.
The serene cabin in the woods was just as advertised - actually better! We were perfectly content and comfortable with the cabin, the beautiful surroundings, and Sally's generous hospitality. By day, we explored amazing gorges and waterfalls, visited local vineyards, swam in Lake Seneca and bought fantastic summer fruits and veggies from nearby farmstands. Our nights and mornings were peaceful and relaxing. The cabin had everything we needed. We loved the loft bed, the indoor and outdoor... More »
Sally is great! She lent us a cooler and grates for cooking over an open fire. The cabin is amazing with a little gas stove, shower with hot water, a sink, and small frig. It was quiet and very serene.
Magical. Peaceful. Perfect. Soft. Soulful. Easy. Magnetic! We are going back asap! Sally is a graceful and lovely host and the space beckons for dreams come true!
Sally's place is so lovely and she is a wonderful host! We really enjoyed the cabin - everything was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. The location is ideally suited- she's right near some of the best places in the region - don't miss Atwater and the distillery, which are just down the street from her. I would highly recommend Sally's cabin to anyone looking for a quiet getaway in the Finger Lakes. We look forward to visiting again!
Absolutely perfect. From the location to the host to the actual cabin everything was nearly perfect. Such a quiet relaxing place to spend a few days. Sally has thought of everything and you only need to bring yourselves and some food. I would not hesitate to go back or send someone to stay for vacation. Can't wait to go back!
Sally is absolutely amazing! She thinks of everything and has so much fun making sure your stay is great. She made great recommendations for places to go and made the stay awesome. Thank you so much, we will be returning soon :)
Sally's cabin is wonderful! Very serene and a beautiful setting if you're fine with rustic. Personally, we love rustic and had a perfect visit! The area is amazing as well; beautiful wine country! Thanks Sally! We'll be by again someday soon! :)
We had such a great time the first visit (last fall) that we came back for another 3-night stay. It's a beautiful cabin in a beautiful location, and it's obvious that Sally puts a lot of love and care into making the stay as enjoyable as possible. Can't wait to come back.
lovely and private. The cabin was immaculate! as was the composting outhouse. We loved listening to the babbling brook and the birds. If you are interested in Finger Lakes wines, this is the place to be. There are numerous wineries very close by, overlooking Seneca Lake. We would definitely stay again and recommend Sally's cabin!
I had the loveliest experience while at Sally's cabin! It is every bit as charming and cozy as in the photos. I visited during a rainy weekend, but it didn't detract at all from my stay - I just loved sitting on the screened porch overlooking the ravine, listening to the rain and all the birds nearby. The wood-fired sauna was also wonderful! And throughout, Sally was just the warmest and most accommodating hostess. By the end of the weekend, I didn't want to leave!
Sally, and her wonderful cabin in the woods, made three days of rain the perfect place to be. Stocked with piles of firewood and a perfectly designed wet sauna, we had to pry ourselves out into the world each morning. Organic towels, soft sheets, and skies full of stars (it stopped raining on the last night). Highly recommended, we will return.
Lovely Person, Lovely Place. Perfect getaway for a couple. She outfitted this sauna/cabin with every thoughtful detail to provide function and comfort! She even brought over a cheese grater in time for our spaghetti dinner; she is either psychic or a highly intuitive! We went hiking nearby during the day and took a relaxing sauna and cooked meals at the cabin each night. We went to the Salvation Army in Ithaca and the local farmer's market on Wednesday where we bought delicious Locust honey!... More »
What can I say? Sally is great and her place is great too! She has anticipated so many of the details...so thoughtful. She was around to greet us and show us the workings of the cottage and the sauna despite our slightly late arrival and she also accommodated our desperate last minute request. The cottage and it's location are marvelous & excellent for a fingerlakes jaunt. I was seriously happy & so appreciative that she had a last minute opening and my friend and I are definitely... What a great cozy and sweet cabin in the woods. The sound of the rain on the roof was great as was listening to the birds in the mornings as they woke and started chirping. It's a great place to relax and have some quiet time. Sally was such a great hostess and gave us good suggestions for some hikes and places to eat.
My girlfriend and I had the best possible time staying in Sally's cabin. It really is a gem of a place. It is exactly what I expected, based on the description and photos, and exactly the type of place I was looking for. All of the glowing comments and reviews are right - you won't be disappointed. I'd recommend staying at least 2 nights (we stayed 3). We spent a day hiking in the Finger Lakes National Forest and another day touring wineries. And the restaurants Sally recommended are... More »
The best way to describe Sally is that she is a woman with a big heart, and a generous spirit. We had an excellent stay with her --from start to finish she was simply amazing. When we dropped her an e-mail and told her we were going to pull an all nighter to get to her place--she was completely up for it. We arrived around 4:30 in the morning to a a well lit lovely cabin--exactly as described on the site. She continued to go the extra mile by giving us fresh cow's milk, and birch... More »
Sally's place was beautiful and just as described. We would return for a visit in an instant. Eat at the Stone Cat. You will not be disappointed.
When you study a website and make a reservation, you are hoping for the best experience. Sally's cabin was everything that was promised and even more. She thought of and provided all the items needed to make the stay wonderful. What the website doesn't show is the unexpected delight you felt when you've met Sally and toured the cabin with her. The cabin was a clubhouse nestled in the mist of the forest. My friend Melissa and I will return again without a doubt. We highly recommend this... More »
Sally has a wonderful, neat and tidy cabin that is close to some amazing spots to eat and wine taste. My boyfriend and I spent the night up there and had an amazing time! The bedding was clean and fresh and everything about the cabin is perfect, from the cool details on the counter tops to the great sauna that we used. The outhouse is also super clean! Sally was quick to respond to my messages and gave us great advice on where to shop and eat! We will certainly be coming back.
My 7yr old son and I stayed for a week at this peaceful cabin. The cabin sits just inside the edge of the woods at the top of a ravine, with leafy views on all sides. We cooked and ate meals on the screened porch, and built campfires every day in the fire pit. The wood windows with antique glass, outdoor shower in a claw-foot tub, concrete kitchen countertops, and decoratively painted wood floors - all add to the casual charm of this cabin. While being remote enough to provide the... More »
The cabin is just as described. Sally has everything you will need to make it an enjoyable trip. The cabin is very secluded and we were very comfortable enjoying the outdoor shower, despite the little cold snap. We brought our 9 month old son and he played very well on the screened in porch. My advice would be to not overpack. There is not a ton of spare room if you have more than 2 people. I would also recommend bringing and leaving a flashlight & umbrella for both your car and the cabin.... More »
Our stay in this secluded spot was simply perfect. The Alaskan-style cabin was fully sufficient, it had a stove, refrigerator, and extremely comfortable beds. I had never seen the milky way in person until I spent the night here. The outhouse was really great, it was clean and nearly odorless. Sally has a warm soul, a beautiful outlook and a tasteful rustic aesthetic. This is a "must" for anyone who values nature and serenity.
I visited the cabin this weekend with my girlfriend and it was amazing. One of the best vacations. The cabin was beautiful and artistic. It felt homey and relaxing, nestled in the woods. We enjoyed the fire pit and sitting on the hammock watching shooting stars. I would definitely recommend this cabin to everyone seeking to melt stress away and deeply relax in complete natural beauty.
We had a great stay! A lovely, funky cabin in the woods, but still close enough to tons of fun, interesting and beautiful things to do. Sally was a terrific guide with lots of great tips for local restaurants, and sites!! The outdoor (on screened porch) shower was extra special given the serene environment. Don't miss the waterfalls and natural pools near the cabin, Sally will direct you there!! And I must say the outhouse was quite pleasant and we were fascinated by the whole composting... More »
Sally's cabin is so nice, comfortable and clean. Sally is a wonderful host, she makes you feel very welcomed and goes out of her way to make your stay enjoyable. The whole Seneca Lake area is a wonderful place to visit.
Beautiful cabin and location. Sally is very helpful and kind. Our stay was very pleasant and we look forward to returning again someday.
it was a great stay.. sally freund has a amazing cabin, cozy queit peaceful, me and my girlfriend had a great time and will be looking forward to our next visit.
Sally's place is absolutely wonerful: it is everything you hope it to be and more. The peace and quiet was wonderful; the cabin very comfortable & charming. A relaxing place to come back to after hiking, swimming, or wine touring the local area.
Sally's place is just magical...like stepping into a fairy tale. Her cottage is comfortable, inviting, and faciliates a shift into reverse - a slow pace to enjoy the scenery, the atmosphere, and time. It is a great place to just sit and read and enjoy time to yourself or with loved ones. I visited with my 2 small children, and we all enjoyed reading and playing checkers on the front porch, smores on the fire pit, the dinners made in the screened in porch, the private "open aired" showers,... sally was delightful and welcoming and the cabin was beautiful. we will definitely be back!
A wonderful getaway spot! Everything was as advertised except it was even more charming and beautiful than expected. One thing not mentioned is the cabin does include a small "dorm-type" refrigerator - a nice bonus. Sally was a wonderful host with a wealth of knowledge about the local area - very friendly, helpful and easy to talk to - there when needed and yet very respectful of her guest's privacy. I look forward to our next visit!
The cottage is just as cute and quirky as described. My 4-year old son was enchanted and wanted to stay many more days. The slope near the outhouse and the ladder to the loft made us nervous but our little guy was super-careful. Enjoy!
Sally's place was peaceful and beautiful. Just what we were hoping for--a relaxing overnight stay that was close to our home but felt like many miles away!
It's as good as it looks in the pictures ! Sally has thought of every detail to make a perfect, peaceful, rural, comfortable getaway. Hot shower while looking through the trees, great lakes to swim in, wildlife, coffee maker and wifi. What more could you ask for ? Sally is an amazing person and very helpful and accommodating; we stayed 5 nights and wished we'd had longer.
I had extreme fantasies about this place and it exceeded expectations! The perfect place to relax, recharge--like being on a different planet. Sally's been great, communicates thoroughly. I cannot imagine NOT returning!
We spent one wonderful relaxing night in Sally’s cabin. The place was very clean and lovingly equipped with traditional furniture. Sally’s housekeeper Tanya welcomed us with fresh raspberries and self-made ice tea. After one week NYC this was exactly what we needed. We were a little sad we had to leave the next day. Thanks Sally and Tanya for the wonderful stay. Greetings Mathias, Martin and Steffi
We were looking for a small, private cabin in the Finger Lakes to celebrate our second anniversary and explore the area. Sally's place was exactly what we were looking for, and more. We really enjoyed the cabin, its porches and outdoor areas, and of course all of the peace and quiet of the woods. Sally and her friends were great hosts, as well. Thanks!
A great experience / wonderful ( shady ) location - like staying in a swiss family robinson cabin -- everything there, including privacy and quiet - a pleasurable adventure --
Sorry I'm just getting to this now but life as u know it can get ahead of u. OK what can i say but WOW your cabin was the best. In a world so riddled with technology. It's nice to know that place like yours still exist. A small cabin that features few modern comforts, but big on natural materials is a breath of fresh air. Got to to the cabin later then was planed and had to find our way in the dark but it was worth it. It was like a scene out of an old movie. Quiet, secluded, and perfect.... More »
My husband and I spent two nights and my parents stayed the next two nights. We had a wonderful, relaxing time and the cabin is beautiful. Sally is a great host and we're already planning our next stay! Location is fantastic: way off the beaten path, yet so close to everything:) Highly recommended!
This cottage is great! It's private, cozy and close to some great local places. Sally is very friendly and will point you in the right direction!
We went with our friends last weekend. Firstly Sally is an amazing person. The description of the cabin was not only accurate but far exceeded our expectations. Sally recommend some great places to hike, shop and eat and went out of her way to make our stay comfortable. It is truly a serene cabin but the best part was the shower experience. I loved our weekend there. -Lets
My friend and I had a great time staying at the cabin! Everything was very clean and Sally had thought of everything we might need from juice in the fridge to biodegradable soaps to use in the shower. The cabin abuts two creeks and a national forest and affords a good deal of privacy. Although there is an outhouse, it was the nicest outhouse I've ever used! :) We would highly recommend staying at the cabin but be forewarned, don't book for only one night because you'll want to stay longer!
Sally was a great guest, hope to see more of her in the future...felt like an old friend...
December 2011Sally was an absolute pleasure, I was very happy to rent my apt. to her. She is a very nice person and very clean. I would highly recommend her as a guest. She is a sweetheart.
Sally is an astonishing friend and terrific host, and her cabin, without any exaggeration, is an oasis. The place is beautiful down to the last detail--the balcony is right up in the trees, the floors are pure art, and the outhouse beats any marble-tiled-gold-plated hotel bathroom anywhere. The place is small, but Sally is generous with both care and space; she makes sure the place is fully equipped, but she doesn't hover or intrude. It's just the place you'd want to be, and when you leave,... More »
June 2010Sally is gem of a gal with a wealth of resources on all things cool. There when you need her and not when you need your privacy. The guest house is just a little ways away from hers but feels like acres away. The whole property buts up to a National forest which gives it an amazingly private fee. It’s a serene paradise like no other. The cabin was cozy & quaint and has a screened in outdoor shower facing the private ravine that borders the property. During the course of our stay... More »
