I attended a conference at Brown and John's place was ideally located (very short walk to campus) and a fraction of the price of the official conference hotels. I was delighted to discover it was also a large room with a super comfy bed, desk and wardrobe. John was quick to respond and very helpful with arrangements for arriving, collecting keys etc. I wasn't sure whether I would be joined by another guest or not, and John was very understanding about the situation, Recommended!
John graciously accommodated us at the last minute, arranging a way for us to pick up our keys at our convenience,and also have the late checkout we needed. Clean room, excellent location, and all-around good experience! Not as a complaint, but purely so that future guests understand the setup, since all Airbnb locations are so different: the shared spaces in the house are clean but also very clearly "lived-in" (perhaps more so since we made our reservation so late), so that while the room itself looks exactly like the photo in, the other spaces are not as pristine. That said, we felt "at home" and found everything that we needed to do a bit of cooking in the kitchen, etc., and would definitely stay here again!
The room was neat and prepared well. His location is great because it's close to shopping, restaurants, everything and the neighborhood is quiet as well. John is easy going and a breeze to live with. Would definitely recommend again.
We came up for my college reunion. Not sure what to expect as this was our first Airbnb experience. Room was pretty basic. Futon bed, a few tables, a chair, a few plants. The room could stand a little dusting but was otherwise pretty clean, bright and sunny.
I realize this isn't an actual BnB so wasn't expecting a coffee maker or toiletries or the like, but I would have liked a small complementary bar of soap (Is that expected at an airbnb?). I don't travel with soap and felt a little weird using the host's bar soap in the shower. We ended up buying some body wash locally. The rest of the apartment was a bit cluttered, but so is my apartment so didn't really bother me. My husband, on the other hand, who's more of a neatnick, would have preferred a tidier space.
There are only 2 real drawback to the space. One is the very narrow spiral staircase leading up to the second floor where the bedroom is. If you have any luggage that wouldn't fit in a carry on overhead then you probably won't be able to get it up to the bedroom. I had trouble maneuvering my medium sized backpack up there. Secondly, the door to the bedroom creaks when opening. Not just a little haunted house creak, but a really loud wake you up out of a sound sleep creak. Which happened when my husband left early for his morning walk. Also, the WiFi ceased working for the last 24 hours we were there.
On the plus side, the building is a gorgeous historic home with very high ceilings and great architectural details. The location is fabulous, right in the midst of Brown and RISD on college hill. The block is filled with beautiful old homes and is lovely to walk around.
I think for the price it was a very good value.
Great location in an historic house near Brown University, owner gave great directions to the house and for finding the keys. John was very accommodating and we enjoyed our stay
Overall, the experience was a good one. The apartment was clean and John provided clear directions on how to find it and where the key would be. We had a slight issue with an errant key but John got back to us pretty quickly and was able to resolve the issue!
John's apartment is terrific! Everything is as described and commented on by others--no surprises.
John responded to e-mail so fast, which is uncommon for so many hosts we have attempted to communicate with. He was on travel, but key arrangements as he described were clear & effortless.
We enjoyed the 6-block proximity to Brown campus-central, and John's detailed adivce on the train connection from PVD was valuable.
John is a fantastic host. He responded quickly and was very helpful with directions to his house. He took the time to tell us all about the fun stuff and great restaurants and bars in the area. The accommodations are exactly as described and the location is perfect. Highly recommended! Thanks John!
