The space

Refurbished apartment in historic modernist building in the heart of Ferrol (Magdalena neighborhood).

It is a building designed by Rodolfo Ucha, the leading modernist architect in Galicia, in 1920. It is the third floor (no lift), you can see in the photo of the facade the spectacular wooden gallery, so characteristic of this artistic movement.

The apartment is fully renovated. It has a living room of 40 square meters, a large master bedroom with en suite bathroom, a room with two beds of 90, another bathroom and a kitchen. In total, the usable area is 100 square meters.

The house is clean, neat and perfectly adapted and equipped to be comfortable. Facilities: TV, stereo with MP3 connection, iphone, ipod or any other music playing device, microwave, oven, hob, fridge, washing machine, juicer, toaster, espresso coffee maker, hair dryer, heating, crockery, pots, pans, etc.. Clean sheets and towels are included in the price.

For families with children, we have available a crib and several drawers full of toys.

Ferrol is a special city, has the charm of small towns, with many pedestrian streets and many shopping and dining. At less than 7 Km there are spectacular beaches, which are the delight of surfers. For example, in Pantin beach it's celebrated every year Surf World Championship (Pantin Classic Galicia Pro). There are also wild beaches like Doniños, Valdoviño or San Jorge. For families with children we would recommend Cabañas and Miño.

The house is in the center, you have bars, restaurants, pubs and shops within two minutes walk. The port of Ferrol is a 10 minute walk and there you can take the boat to Mugardos a picturesque fishing village where you will taste the octopus mugardesa, take a boat trip on the estuary (in good weather) and hopefully see dolphins....

There are lots to do and see in Ferrol, so we will give a list of what we as Ferrolans, consider more interesting, as well as maps and further information about places to taste Galician cuisine at an affordable price.

The Eume Fragas (forest) are a 15 minute drive and are a spectacular setting, a protected forest with river Eume central axis.

A Coruña is 30 minutes driving and Santiago de Compostela 45 minutes. Other small medieval villages and fishing towns (Pontedeume, Betanzos, Cedeira ...) are much closer.

The apartment is just how it appears in the pictures. We were spoilt with two bathrooms between a couple and a 2 year old; the water was always hot and there were plenty of fresh towels as well as extra toiletries in case (like us) you forget something! The kitchen was well equipped and we were grateful for the use of a washing machine after a few days spent at the local beaches. The bedrooms were comfortable with space to store clothes and access to fresh bed linen. There were lots of toys available for our daughter to play with and she enjoyed racing around the spacious living room. Although the apartment is in a residential area, we found it peaceful enough. The bedrooms are situated at the back with shutters which block all of the light and noise. There is a bar/restaurant opposite but the general noise from that did not disturb us at all. The seagulls were the noisiest thing to contend with but, again, this will not bother you too much. Remember - it is on the third floor (54 steps up) so consider that when packing your suitcases! Parking is on the street and can be a little pot luck but, in the space of 6 nights, we only once had to park a short walk away. Mostly we were able to park right outside the front door (helped by the fact that the school bus stop was not in use in July and August - it may be harder to park in term time). We enjoyed exploring the local area and would recommend a trip on the Ferrol to Mugardos ferry (€3 each way). Make sure you walk along the front to the secluded beach. Also a drive out to San Felipe beach (along the river estuary) and a day trip to Santiago De Compestela (1 hour) and A Coruña (30 mins). A family friendly beach can be found at San Jorge (Xurxo); position yourselves on the left hand side out of the wind and, at low tide, little lagoons will be left in the sand which are perfect for your little ones to play in.

Very charming place. 4th floor without an elevator and large suitcases was a good workout. Parking on the streets around the area was difficult. Great local shops and restaurants within walking distance but be ready for the steep incline of the streets...another great workout.

A huge, light and well equipped flat in a very central location, both for Ferrol itself and the wider region with its spectacular coastline and beaches. Plenty of great places to eat and drink, also good shops. For us, with a motorbike, lack of parking was a real issue and we ended up renting a space in a super secure underground car park down bottom of street and to left.. useful to know if this affects you. The flat is lovely to come home to after a hard day of holiday activity! You'll be super fit going up and down the 54 steps too. Excellent value for a longer stay...really good discount.

Amazing! I absolutely loved it. I was in Ferrol for a wedding and wanted somewhere central to stay. The flat is so central and close to everything. It was also larger than it looks in pictures. It's fully equipped and extremely clean. I would definitely come back here if I were in Ferrol again. The only thing is that there is no wifi.
