About this listing

Rum Jungle is one of five, open-air, one-bedroom, West Indian cottages, each with private sitting room, kitchen and bathroom, located at Libby Nicholson's Pineapple House in English Harbour, Antigua. Guests are invited to share sundowners with Libby in the main house each evening. Located nearby are French and Italian restaurants, night life, beaches, beach bars, yachts, and Nelson's Dockyard. Rum Jungle offers stunning views of Super Yachts located at Antigua Yacht Club Marina.

The space

Rum Jungle is a quaint, one-bedroom cottage that is one of eight guest houses, connected by meandering pathways, located at Pineapple House, where guests are invited to share sundowners with Libby each evening. With private sitting room, kitchen. bathroom, and Queen-size bed, Rum Jungle is a fully private, comfortable unit all to itself that invites one to dream about living in it year round.... Located near the front gate, just under the main house, where we throw parties, it is close to the public road but raised above it, so it is private but it can be noisy when cars drive by. With fewer stairs than the other cottages (being located lowest on the hillside), there is a small kitchen with stove, oven, fridge, and running water. The lounge is similar to the rest of our cottages, comfy and cozy, but open and airy, and decorated in tropical style and architecture.

The Queen-sized bed has a mosquito net, reading light, and fan. There is a private bathroom with cold-water shower, ensuite. Pineapple House's laundry room shares an alcove with it. Caroline and Claudia make up beds daily and clean your house daily.

Anyone staying in Rum Jungle is always invited up to the Main House to meet the rest of the yachting crew staying here. We encourage all of our guests to mingle and meet each other.

Shops, night clubs, bars are all within a 5 minute walk to the Antigua Yacht Club Marina. The beach is just down the road in the opposite direction, a 5-minute walk, with two beach bars at either end.

One of the least expensive houses at Pineapple House, Rum Jungle has the fewest steps of all the houses; it's also the house most likely to have internet, because the main house is located just above it. It has a fully equipped, private kitchen; cold-water rain shower; and private sitting room, plus great view. The one drawback is its proximity to the road, where cars zoom by.

Pineapple House is a great place to catch up on reading and writing. People who stay here meet people, both within the compound of Pineapple itself and at pubs ashore. Pineapple House caters to the crew off the yachts, who like to take respites off the yachts between charters, and AirBNB guests. During regattas, sailors off the racing yachts prefer to stay at Pineapple House, as the Antigua Yacht Club is three steps from our door step. People dress up at night and dance the night away at music clubs, where bands are known for their great guitarists and singers. Pigeon Point beach is a five minute walk, where Bumpkins Bar is a great place to drink a pina colada and watch the sun go down and where a fine French restaurant graces the other end with its expensive but delicious luncheons, worth every penny! English Harbour offers a safe, trendy neighborhood, where excellent Italian and French restaurants are within walking distance. Antigua is known for its white sandy beaches, stunning scenery, and friendly people. Pineapple House is a great jumping off place from which to explore the island.

Guest access

Please feel free to walk around the gardens and join us in the main house for sundowners at sunset.... There’s a lounge in the main house, where you can surf the web (if not in your private cottage), and a little gazebo next to the main house gets good internet reception as well, although the light switch has to be on for the electrical outlet to work. Though we prefer not to do guest laundry, due to water scarcity, we do have laundry facilities on property for a small fee. The garden is for everybody to enjoy with guava trees, mango trees, banana trees, and lots of tropical flowers.

Interaction with guests

I am Libby Nicholson, born and raised in Antigua and owner-operator of Pineapple House since 1999. Color, design, and people are my specialty and my passion. Pineapple House is a friendly atmosphere property, where people arrive as guests and leave as family. The mix of international people on the property makes it personal, as this is a small Guest House.

I have a plethora of island information to share with you. If you find activities or restaurants on the island that I have missed or do not know about, please share your experiences with us, as we are always interested to learn more about our beautiful island! We have the house phone for making reservations, and taxis are a moment away... We recommend that you order any hire cars online before you arrive as it is less expensive, and you are guaranteed the car style of your choice. I and my staff are on the property full time; we are here for you anytime.

Other things to note

There is no TV or air conditioning at Pineapple House; guests are invited for sundowners at the main house each evening. All the cottages are open to the wind, and mosquitos do make their way in. Each bed has a mosquito net and a fan, and there is a Mosquito Magnet in the yard, which we rebait every three weeks. With the exception of Bird House and Cleopatras, there is no hot water at Pineapple House; guests are asked to use water sparingly, as water is scarce on the island. Pineapple House has wonderful ocean views, but there are lots of stairs. Because each cottage has just one double bed and situated on a steep mountain side, Pineapple House caters primarily to couples; dormitory-style beds are available for individuals in the main house. Internet is available in the main house and gazebo only; guests are welcome to use the internet service in the main house anytime. We are open from October to May.

By far the greatest stay of our lives. We were welcomed right into the Pineapple House family. Libby gave us a free upgrade to a beautiful cottage and made us feel like family. We met some wonderful yachties and some amazing people during our stay. While definitely a social atmosphere you can slip away to enjoy the peace and beauty of the property. Couldn't be in a better location. Thanks Libby we will be back very soon!

Libby's is a blast and exactly as described. We stayed in Rum Jungle and woke every morning to a beautiful view of the boats in Falmouth Harbor through the trees, with dew dripping onto the palm leaves just off our balcony and a finch periodically ducking in and out onto our bleached-wood coffee table. If you're interested in staying in the lively midst of the action and don't mind the late night strains of laughter and reggae and parties floating through your window until 3am (we didn't -- at all), stay here. And we stayed in Rum Jungle, which is closest to the road/the yacht club and marina businesses-- if you check into another room at Pineapple House further up the hill, you'll get a little bit more solitude and less exposure to the street-- but we wouldn't have changed a thing. (And the rum punch -- the rum punch! Would that we could stay for another week.)

Thank you so much, Fiona, for your kind was a pleasure to meet you as well as to host you....I'll also follow up on your feedback, as the mossie's have been more abundant than usual, and have been trying to get the Antigua Gov't to come out and fog the area as they usually do, for some reason, they didn't come this season, despite my continuous calling them....Also time to get our local Terminex out again, as we do that twice a year.....Thank you so much for being a part of our Pineapple family, and we all hope to see you again out in the Caribbean again sooner than later!

Thanks Libby for all the hospitality and a great stay. Rum Jungle is incredibly conveniently located for the Antigua Yacht Club in Falmouth, something I had not realised from the website. Also an easy walk to Nelson's Dockyard in English Harbour. The cottage really captures the Carribean feel. (Tip: bring mosquito spray) Highly recommended.

The Pineapple House & cottages are a delightful enclave of Antiguan hospitality & relaxation.Rum Jungle was our private abode with fantastic views over the harbour & boats & bird-life aplenty. The location was close to restaurants & a pleasant walk to Nelson's Dockyard. Libby made us feel most welcome & nothing was too much trouble. She went to great pains to locate a cardigan left behind in a taxi through phone was hugely appreciated,Libby! We had just one night before joining friends elsewhere on the island, but it was a great start to our stay in Antigua.

Libby was extremely welcoming and helped us with recommendations regarding what to do and when to do it. When leaving Libby and Rum Jungle we made our way to Barbuda where she had not only helped us book a guesthouse but also put us in contact with her personal guide on the island. For us pineapple house and Libby at English harbour was a terrific way to start the holiday in Antigua with a (very) social and welcoming atmosphere. Other visitors should note that rum jungle is at the entrance to the premises however me and my boyfriend felt it was private enough!
