Sunset Cliffs Studio

Wonderful can't even begin to describe my experience. I was wowed by the pictures when I first saw the place and when I got there I wasn't let down. The whole place has an extremely relaxing atmosphere. Whether you are looking for a place to get away from it all or you are trying to see all that San Diego has to offer this place will not disappoint. It's about 5 minutes away from sunset cliffs and ocean beach as well as 15 minutes away from downtown San Diego. The host, Marin, was there when I checked in and made sure that we had adequate contact information in case we needed anything. I highly recommend this place if you are looking to stay in the area. It was the best vacation spot I've ever been to.

This was my first AirBnB stay in San Diego and I couldn't have been more pleased. The studio was bright, clean, stocked, and easily accessible as advertised. One of the benefits of this place is that the hosts are close in case you ever have a need and they are very friendly. I had a great weekend. Thanks Marin and Rocio!

Although we did not meet Marin and his wife until the morning we left, all the pre contact and set up was fine and access to the studio was not a problem. The location is good in a quiet neighbourhood but you do need a car. Street parking is fine. Aircraft noise is from around 630am with a few early morning flights but was not unduly disturbing. The studio can be cold but there is a heater and more bedding. Bed is not large. It would be nice to have black out drapes rather than material blinds and I would prefer china crockery rather than melamime. Bathroom facilities were good.

Great little place, very nice neighborhood, perfect location

My stay at the Sunset Cliffs Studio was ideal. The studio is airy, spacious and has all the needs for a comfortable stay. There is a heater for cool nights, and a fan for warmer ones. The kitchen is also equipped with basic appliances (toaster, coffee maker, stove and utensils - no microwave though) and a small fridge. The studio is light filled and the little porch area in front was perfect for sitting out in. The space has a clean aesthetic and is simply but well appointed. The studio is accessible through a separate entrance, and is private by being located behind a fence. I stayed for nine days, as I was in SD for some work. My boyfriend joined me for a few days in the middle, and the studio was comfortable for two as well (although depending on your preference a full sized bed may be a bit small). Out hosts were very gracious and helpful, and our brief interaction with them was an enhancement to a very pleasant stay. The one thing you need to keep in mind is that while it is a short walk to Sunset Cliffs or Ocean Beach, everything else is a definite drive - so a car is a must - which is probably a given in California in any case - parking however is not a problem at all. Also other reviewers have mentioned the noise of the planes, but yes, while they were audible, it was not the kind of airplane roar that one cannot easily filter out, and moreover, it was only occasional and stayed in the background. In short, there is good reason for all the glowing reviews that Sunset Cliffs has received, and I am happy to add to that list and reaffirm this site.

I enjoyed my stay very much great area. Rancho’s Organic Mexican restaurant and cantina is not far and the breakfast there is superb. I suggest the whole wheat pancakes and eggs with organic maple syrup. The fresh juice bar at Rancho’s a delete (Carrots, celery and beets) or whatever, that is just what I had. The cottage was very nice clean and comfortable. I picked a fresh ripe orange right off the tree outside the cottage one morning and ate it, wow, how great (I hope I am not telling on myself!!! LOL). The Gertle's were very nice and accommodating. Hope to go back. Thanks you both for a pleasant stay.

Studio was very comfortable and cozy. Short 5 minute drive to OB with beautiful view of the ocean along the way. Hosts provided plenty of towels and the kitchen was equipped with oil, basic spices, tupperwares, plastic baggies, and other very useful items for travelers. Hosts also left great maps with their personal recommendations for sightseeing, dining, etc in San Diego. The Gertlers were very nice and totally unobstrusive. We were sad to leave and would absolutely stay here again!

Marin's cottage is delightful. The room is all new and fresh. There is a small kitchen with everything you need to prepare a meal. We were there for 2 nights and had no time for meals but wished we did. The place has a private deck with a small dining table for 2. Inside the double bed is comfortable, the heater worked very well, the bathroom is simple but clean. The gardens are beautiful. We would gladly stay there again.

Marin's studio was everything I'd hoped it would be. For my first Airbnb experience, I am so grateful that things went so smoothly and the studio was so nice. Everything was comfortable, the hosts were friendly, and they even left maps indicating local sites to visit. Some previous reviews complained about the flight noise from planes but I never heard it. I felt very safe and relaxed there and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

When I recommend a stay at Marin & Rocio's place, I speak not only as a close friend, but also as a former hotelier and current travel professional. Of course I can vouch for them as delightful and honest people, but I can also say that the innkeeper in me happily lives vicariously through their experience as airbnb hosts. They really care about making their guests comfortable and they offer a private space in a perfect location at an incredible price. If I have friends visiting San Diego, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay at Sunset Cliffs. You'll be comfortable and privileged to have met such cosmopolitan hosts.

Marin and his wife Rocio are good family friends. They are a ton of fun to spend time with and their house is located in a can't be beat location, close to great surfing at Sunset Cliffs and Dog Beach, within walking distance to downtown Ocean Beach and its bars, restaurants, and farmer's market, and in close proximity (cheap cab ride) to downtown San Diego. Marin is an artist, but not a wimpy one. He is a cosmopolitan and can carry a conversation and tell a good joke. He plays a mean game of soccer, is a ringer at foosball, and throws himself into gnarly waves at Luscombs (Sunset Cliffs surf spot). My friend Marin is a great guy to know and his apt is an incredible place to stay at an affordable rate. Check it out!

I recommend Marin and his wife Rocio as hosts (and friends!) without hesitation. Marin and Rocio are usually smiling and always light hearted. They embrace life, seek adventure, and welcome new experiences and people from all cultures into their lives. Whether enjoying a beautiful sunset from their front porch in Ocean Beach/Point Loma or traveling with them to a remote skiing or surfing location, Marin and Rocio bring an optimism and calmness to every situation that is infectious. They’re great friends and great people.
