Overlooking a stunning lagoon, right on the water's edge this simple cozy home is situated on one of the best beaches in Rarotonga providing prime snorkeling away from the crowds yet close to the shop, bus stop, resort cafe and restaurant
A cozy house on a sandy beach, overlooking a postcard like turquoise lagoon, one of the most beautiful spots on Rarotonga. Sparkling clean water filled with small tropical fish and some blue starfish are easy to spot too.
The house is a private property but is available for rent each year for a few months when we are away.
The House has most modern facilities but we are overcoming certain features that came with the house and are difficult to change. So whilst we provide a juicer, blender or electric kettle and pan for our guests so they can fry their pancakes sitting on the deck, the oven for example is sort of ancient and since it's a very strange dimension - not easy to change. So if you are up for a lot of TV show style cooking and baking then our house may prove not to be perfect for your needs.
Because of the lease agreement we cannot change as much in the building itself as we would like to .
We try to make it comfortable for our guests. There are beach towels, a wooden table on the beach, hammock on the deck, WIFI at providers' pricing so that you don't need to look around the island for a reliable WIFI access (by the way there is no free WIFI on the island, the hot spots not only charge for the access but often don't even sell vouchers for which the customer has to make a separate trip to the Telecom office)
The house is perfect for you if you appreciate a magnificent view, long swimming and snorkelling, lounging on the beach, waking up with sunrise on your face to make a fresh juice or smoothie and step out onto the warm sand or plunge into the soft waters of the lagoon, if you like beach walks, swaying coconut leaves, glass of wine at the sunset over the lagoon from in your house steps but you don't mind modest dwelling and can overlook small flaws in our abode.
This is a modest private home with the owners away. Staying in someone else's home requires sometimes communicating with the owner and service providers (i.e. Meter Reader, Tradespeople).
There is one bedroom available with a unique queen size bed and cosy lighting, a lounge with wooden table for 4, comfy leather sofa, small open plan kitchen with 4 windows and big sliding 4 segment door to the deck.
There is a table on the deck with three deck chairs allowing you a great view of the lagoon. You can enjoy your breakfast or dinners by the water's edge (there is a wooden table and bench under the house) - great sunsets over the lagoon and you can see the sunrise from your bedroom window. Half of the deck outside the bedroom has glass windows so you can lounge there even if you happen to have a bad weather day.
one of the best beaches on Rarotonga - clean, beautiful spot for snorkelling and swimming with crystal clear turquoise water.
There is a wooden table / bench rolled into one so each morning you can have your breakfast with sand under your feet and each night you can sit right in front of our house, listen to the surf and watch the stars. You can often see blue starfish and school of little fish right from your bedroom window. If you go further into the water, up to your chest, you have a a view of Rarotonga's majestic mountains covered with lush tropical forest.
BUILDING AND VIEW
The building itself is simple, not very fancy, this is why the price is low for what the house has to offer in terms of interior and stunning view and location. The house is raised up on high stilts so that it overlooks the lagoon.
As you walk onto the property it's not impressive but once you get up the steps and open the gate to the deck you have the most fantastic view you can imagine. There are mountains behind you and a sparkling turquoise lagoon with the ocean beyond in front of you, fine, soft sand of the beach fringed with swaying coconut trees and very few people on the beach, often no one.
We have two neighbours, one rarely there, and on the other section right next to us the owner planned to put a holiday accommodation but it's not finished yet, the building taking place on and off so hard to predict when it is going be completed.
If you value privacy and a pristine beach the water here is exceptionally clean yet the beach is not busy due to the absence of big resorts and low density of other accommodations. It is far more quiet pat of Rarotonga than more touristy Muri for example yet with nice swimming spots. A walk away there is a nice resort with a restaurant but the visitors usually stay in front of the resort on the beach chairs and rarely wander this way.
COMFORT and security- WHAT MATTERS IN RAROTONGA
The house has mosquito nets in all the windows that you need to open. There are big sliding doors and high windows along the whole beach side of the house opening onto the roofed deck so the house is bright but not hot. There are also 4 windows on the other sides in the main room and another one in the bedroom allowing the breeze to go through. basically when it's hot you can always find a window to get some air in. It also only gets hot inside the house when the sun is out which is all the reason to hit the beach or the lagoon. This is something very important on the island.
There are tiles on the floor to keep the house cool and having it raised up means there are no CRAWLY VISITORS - no centipedes or other uninvited crawling guests here ever, very few mosquitos (only at certain part of the day and when it's really hot and still) so you can enjoy time on the deck and on the beach without need to use mosquito spray.
The bus stops wherever you flag it down. You can walk to the best, third biggest supermarket on the island where you can get good deals on local vegetables and fruit and where you can find some local specialities - apart from having all main brands they sell bread from local bakery and dishes cooked by the people from the village. You can get here ika mata - coconut fish, freshly squeezed coconut cream, locally baked cakes, plates of delicious local food. A trade mark of the shop is its icecream - big island scoops. get one and use the wifi sitting at the tables in front of the shop.
Next to the supermarket there is a Take away and a small cafe -very good value for money.
A good restaurant, "Vaima" serves Parrot fish, a must try here. You can walk to Vaima either on the road, a bit past the supermarket, about 10 minutes walk, or stroll there along the beach. you can dine at the tables on the beach, sand between your toes.
For rent only to very reliable respectful and cultured people with reference. We entrust you with all our earthly possessions so we would like to be sure you are going to take good care of them and respect our little slice of paradise.
To replace even simple things here is often very difficult and stuff is expensive. A lot of our stuff came from New Zealand at high shipping costs, like our beloved sofa or bean bags.
So if you use an outdoor sofa, bean bags or wooden table on the beach and there is going to be high tide, please remember to pull these things back up or they might get washed away.
We hope you will enjoy your holidays here and will do our best to help you with all your arrangements and advice.
It is always really rewarding to hear back or find letters from our gusts praising the place and telling us how they enjoyed it here. With some we remained friends. So far we only had good experiences and hope it will stay like this.
2014 we stayed in Europe for 3 months, we have arranged a cleaner and paid in advance, sadly you can't always count on the cleaners in Raro, the ones who came specifically to do cleaning job are employed full time in the resorts, others come when it suits them. It's easier when you are there.
We tried to do our best to have the house presentable for the guests, the neighbour offered to replace the cleaner, she then stayed in the house when the guests were not using it and sadly she did not our email where we explained we offered to one of our guests an very early arrival and when they arrived she was still staying in the house. She cleaned it and then proved a great help to them and to our other guests with everything but this is island reality to you.
That's a little story to show you not everything there goes according to the plan but if you can relax and accept the island way it often rewards you in the end.
i really hope that everything will go smoothly when you are there but in case of any problems at all talk to us straight away, happy to fix any problem distance allowing or refund or talk to our neighbour (we will give you emergency phone numbers and emails)
other than this - just enjoy your stay!
beach table, blow up bed if requested in advance for extra guests, juicer, blender, towels, kitchen equipment, snorkels, two plastic chairs that can be taken to the water, 2 beach chairs, 1 ceiling fan, one portable fan
Third party provided WIFI at cost (official provider's prices)
2 bikes (fee)
Interaction with guests
We rent out this house only when we are overseas and provide local phone numbers and a phone to call these numbers for free for:
- friend with mechanical skills
- us via local number
Other things to note
We do have a 42" TV but no TV reception, you are welcome to bring your own movies or music on a USB Stick or small 2.5" self powered hard drive. Landline phone and internet available on request.
1. Please take notice of the international dateline which means that when you are coming from New Zealand or Australia you are often arriving in our place a day before you depart or the same day when you would expect to arrive the next.
2. Please take notice of our check in and check out time. We often can't be flexible as most of our guests arrive really early and leave on the midnight flight so allowing everyone stay longer means the cleaning in between the guests would be impossible.
Some guests book extra nights or night to ensure longer stay. When there is no other bookings until the last moment we sometimes let our guests stay longer but early check in is a different thing. We had some guests in the past who really wanted to check in early and were prepared to do the cleaning themselves in return. Provided it is discussed in advance we can notify our cleaner. We try to be somewhat flexible here but by the same token we want to treat all our guests equally and not let some check early only because it happens to be a break between bookings whilst others have to wait. It is also difficult to make different arrangements with the cleaner who often comes to the house in the morning before the check in. If you are really keen to check in early and rather clean the house yourself and it would not reflect negatively on our rating for cleanliness (we had one case like this) please ask in advance otherwise please try to be understanding or book the extra night for that 8:00 AM checkin / 11 PM checkout.
3. We send to every guest information about the house, how to get there, how to obtain keys etc. Please note that you are staying in our house while we are away. This means a lot of privacy but also means that the house is not serviced and that we cannot welcome you. We entrust you our home and give it to your full disposal and ask you in return to take care of it during your stay as if it was your own. This means that you would need to notify us or the people we provide you contact numbers to in case something goes wrong, keep the house reasonably clean during your stay, take out the garbage not to attract "wild life" inside etc. We have a deal with a gas company to change the gas when the bottle runs out and there is a spare bottle too but you would need to change the bottle to the spare on or make a phone call and request a change (we transfer the money to them) Most of our guests never had problems with this but if you are used to staying in the hotels or serviced apartments this arrangement may not be good for you. We try to ensure there is no issues and the property is inspected between the guests. We also have very friendly neighbours on the other side of the road who will happily help with any unexpected issues, however please be sure that you can take care of the property during your holidays and are happy to do it before you book our place. Thank you
We love having guests in our place but because it is our family home we usually accept only requests from the guests who have reviews or who can show us other credentials. We try to do our best to make your stay in our home comfortable but because we are away it has certain limitation so if you are happy to be left alone and in care of our property, down to earth , responsible and easy going we would love to host you and will be very grateful to have you in our precious modest little abode. You may however feel you want to be taken care of and spoiled during your stay or have certain demands and standards we may not be able to meet so please read carefully our description and rules and make an informed decission

I am Polish, my husband is German. He has been working and living here for the last 13 years. I lived in Australia and new Zealand and three years ago came to Rarotonga on my way from Tahiti to New Zealand. it was supposed to be just a short stop over but I have been living here ever since. 2 months after I came we were engaged, soon after married and last year gave birth here to a little baby girl.
We love the island, the lifestyle, culture and the attitude people have and it is the best place to bring up a happy heathy child. people here love babies and babies are just part of their life, they do not turn their lives upside down because a new person arrived, becoming a parent is the most natural thing. Someone told me here that in Cook islands a house without children is like garden without flowers.
We both travelled a lot and our wee one, just a 6 months old now travelled around the world. She has been twice to New Zealand, Thailand, around Europe, Stop over in LA and is a great little traveller, loved meeting people and seeing new things.
We are happy, easy going and respectful. We love our little place. We go to Europe for a couple of months each year and would like to have people staying in our place. We hope that we can become friends with our visitors and so we will make all the effort to make their stay here comfortable and great as we would love to have them come back if they turn out to be respectful and responsible guest.
Enjoy our amazing little slice of paradise
