We are a hip couple with one son. Our house is in a great location in Evanston, which is the first town just north of Chicago on Lake Michigan. Evanston has Northwestern University and is vibrant and very urban (definitely not vanilla suburban) while also being green, quiet and peaceful. Northwestern University is here so there's lots of great culture.
You will be in a private guest room on the second floor of our house, The guest room is quite clean and comfortable, with wood floors, a queen-size bed with lots of pillows (we have accommodated couples with one young child with a cozy single 2" thick mattress with comforter on the floor), antique dresser, nightstands, good reading lamps, closet with plenty of hangers, rocking chair, portable laptop desk, power strip for charging your electronics, tons of tourist brochures for the area, free high-speed wireless, a fan and AC when needed, and windows that open to our beautiful flower garden on a quiet street. You will have a private bathroom across the hall with tub/shower, basic toiletries. and windows.
Our house is next to a public golf course, and you are welcome to enjoy our lovely deck with its quiet and peaceful view of the woods, 12th green, golfers, walkers, runners, dog walkers and cross-country skiers.
You will be served a homemade breakfast if you like, on the deck weather permitting, and we offer cappuccino, espresso, plain old joe or tea. You are welcome to store leftovers in our frig but we do not offer kitchen use.
You will be walking distance to everything, including:
Public transportation (walk 2 blocks to the Metra, which is a 35 min train ride into Chicago and all it has to offer, or walk 4 blocks to the CTA, which is a 45 min train ride into Chicago. The Metra also goes north to north shore suburbs and attractions like Ravinia, Chicago Botanic Garden and more).
Public beaches, parks, arboretum and playgrounds. Excellent walking/running routes right out the door.
Yoga studios and gyms.
Art museums.
Public library.
Baha'i Temple.
Evanston cafes and restaurants, all kinds of shopping and tons of grocery options including FoodStuffs (gourmet food), Whole Foods, Dominick's, Jewel, Great Harvest Bread, Homemade Pizza, etc.
Northwestern University and all it has to offer (come for a football game!).
