Room with firm, comfortable double bed available in beautifully furnished 1886 Victorian house in Rochester's lively Park Ave area. Also available is a comfortable double futon in the front living room, with private half bath on same floor--you can also use the upstairs bathroom with a full bath/shower. I also have a single bed available in my home office that is sometimes available. Free wireless, use of kitchen, living room, TV room, etc. I have a friendly basset hound, so dogs are generally allowed for $10 per night (however, we would need to discuss your dog before I can make an offer). House is 2 miles from downtown Rochester/Eastman School; 3 miles from U of Rochester, Medical Center, near major highways -- easy access to RIT, UR, Xerox, etc. One additional guest can sleep in my office if available ($20/night) and 2 more guests can be accommodated downstairs ($40)--to be arranged separately. I provide tea or coffee in the a.m. and there's a great bakery and good brunch spots 2 blocks away. PARKING usually on-street, but sometimes I can make the driveway available. Walk to the Park Avenue area's restaurants, cafes, bakery, George Eastman House photography museum, Zen Center. Great location for Jazz Festival, city festivals, Eastman School of Music, graduations. 45 min from Finger Lakes. (website hidden) 'Visit Rochester' for tourism info on the city.

  • My stay with MJ was exactly what I was hoping for. Her home was very clean, secure, relaxed and comortable. The neighborhood was very cool and inviting. MJ is friendly and made me feel at home. My stay was for 3 nights and by the middle of my stay, I found myself watching a dvd I brought on a nice futon in my pj's with a dog by my side! How good is that? I was a nice place to end a day of intensive educational training.. oh, and very close to a very wonderful city - lots to enjoy along the way

  • MJ was the consummate host (with an able assist from the world's snuggliest basset hound); her house is lovely, comfortable, & close to "the Greenwich Village of Rochester". What more could you want? In our case, we had the added bonus of catching up after 30 years, but even if airbnb hadn't accidentally facilitated a reunion, it would have been a 5-star stay.

  • we had a great time staying at Mary-Jane's house: such a welcome, we really felt at home in her very nice house. And we felt so relaxed. besides, Rochester is a very interesting and friendly city with many things to do, especially the Eastman Museum and the Highfalls, and good music at the Beales, and very nice visits around; the finger lakes, Wellsworth Park and Niagara Falls Thank you Mary Jane for your warm welcome

  • MJ was an awesome host. She picked us up from the airport and dropped me off at the train station on her way to work when I left. Her neighborhood is supposed to be one of the more lively ones in Rochester. I didn't get a chance to do much exploring, but the Park Ave strip strip is about 4 blocks long with a few decent dining options, two cafés and a pub. We had a really nice time there. There's also a bus stop nearby that takes you right into the center of town, but buses are pretty few and far between, so we took a cab downtown for $10 one way and waited about 30 minutes for the bus on our way back. The house itself is very comfortable, the room is sunny and warm, her dog is very sweet but will also keep out of your room if you want him to. Everything was great and MJ made us feel right at home. The house itself is clean but there is a dog on the premises so expect to find some dog hair in the living room where the pooch hangs out. This wasn't a problem for us though because we were either out, in the kitchen, or in our room. I would definitely recommend MJ's place for someone young who wants to be in a cute area with food and drink options, and likes dogs.

  • We had a great stay with MJ. She was a wonderful host - prompt and caring about details - and we loved Rumpole - her very affectionate, laid-back dog :)

  • We had a great stay with Mary Jane. She was a warm host and has a very comfortable space. We felt right at home as soon as we arrived. We really enjoyed meeting her and she gave a great recommendation for dinner which we were able to walk to right from her house. Great location and neighborhood. Would definitely stay here again.

  • MJ was a terrific host. We spent one night with her, and she welcomed us and our dog into her home. The Park Ave. neighborhood where she lives has many great restaurants and shops. If we go to Rochester again, we'll definitely want to stay with MJ.

  • Staying with MJ was like staying with a friend; she's warm and welcoming and even picked me up from the train station! The house is lovely, the sofa futon very comfy and the neighbourhood is perfect for visiting the cultural attractions of Rochester, especially the George Eastman House/International Museum of Photography. There are also restaurants within a few minutes walk. If you get time, walk to the nearby reservoir for a view over Rochester.
