Has fully-equipped modern kitchenette, and a breakfast bar made of reclaimed wood. Skylights, marble counter. Comfortable queen-sized wall-bed, fireplace, wood provided. Long, comfy couch, can be used for sleeping, fits 6'4" large person. Tiled shower/bath. 27" TV. Wi-fi; DVD, Video, CD players available.
Entry porch overlooks the raspberry canes, which you can browse (in season.) You can sit with morning coffee and book and look over the jungly front garden and greet hosts, cat, and dog as we wander past.
You can store bikes in the garden shed. For long stays, the host washer/dryer is available. (It's an energy efficient all-in-1 unit which takes longer than usual, and tends to wrinkle.)
Guests are greeted with a bottle of wine (tell us if you prefer red or white) and fixings for a simple breakfast.
There is plenty of on-street parking.
Eclectic decor features artwork by local gallery artists (Jeanne Henry, Anne Connell, Allison Bollman,) antique armoires, basketball signed by the Blazers. Mexican rugs, bamboo floors, warm wood, rustic tile, and shelves of CD, DVDs, and books complete the look and create a venue for kicking back after a busy day.
This quiet residential side street is nestled between two destination business streets, Hawthorne and Division. Area restaurants range from brew pubs (Bridgeport, Lucky Lab), ethnic (Lauro, Pok Pok), breakfast places (Cup and Saucer, Hawthorne Street Cafe, Paradox Cafe) and fine dining (Three Doors Down.) Food carts, 2nd-hand shops, boutiques, Powell's bookstore, knitting stores, coffee shops, etc make this a wonderful area to shop. We are walking distance from 3 grocery stores and usually feature Stumptown Coffee for your morning cup.
For other activities: The historic Bagdad Theatre is now a McMenamin's theatre/brew pub, and nationally-famed Do Jump dance company operates out of nearby Echo Theatre. Nearby Sewellcrest Park features a baseball diamond, basketball court, kids play area, and off-lead dog area, with plenty of room for playing frisbee or soccer.
And if you want to get downtown, it's a 20-minute ride on the #4 (3 blocks away) or the #14 (8 blocks away.) Both buses run every 15 minutes. Or you can take the Clinton Street bike route (4 blocks away) down to the waterfront. The Max from the airport connects with nearby crosstown 75 bus line. This is the perfect place to stage your Portland adventure.
