Enjoy the best northern New Mexico has to offer. From time to time we offer our large and lovely solar adobe home set on 21 acres in the Santa Cruz River Valley 23 miles north of Santa Fe. You get skiing (if it's winter) at three close-by ski areas, badland and river hikes right out the door, a visit with our horses and amazing mountain vistas right up the street. You also get easy proximity to the one-of-a-kind cultural and recreational amenities of Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Espanola and Taos.
The large country kitchen is fully equipped with all appliances and utensils for you to prepare and enjoy your meals, and there are two indoor eating areas as well as three outdoor areas, weather permitting. The 3 bedrooms and den accommodate 7-8 people in two double beds and three twins. There are several common areas in the house and outside, depending on the time of year. We are long-time residents of the area and are happy to give you tips for enjoying your stay. Talk to us about special food or travel arrangements or any other requests and we will be glad to work with you. Price listed is for a maximum of 8 people, please inquire about additional guests or any other needs. A per-person cleaning fee will be added to the total. Please view our listing "Charming Country Adobe" for guest recommendations or if you are interested in a room rate.

  • Since our group's stay at Julie and Scott's beautiful home, we've decided that we want to build a commune and live together all the time. This will be tricky, since four of us live in Texas and three in New York City, but if we can figure out how to create as hospitable and welcoming a place as this, we'll do it. We were in Santa Fe for a dear friend's wedding and decided to stay at this farmhouse for budgetary reasons, and so we could all spend time together. Our party comprised two couples, a baby, and two single gals. Julie and Scott went above and beyond to make us feel welcome -- including making their master bedroom available for myself, my husband, and 10-month-old. The house is huge! Each room has ample privacy. Baffled by the time change, our kiddo woke up at 4:30 every morning, but even with his chatting and bumping around, no one else heard him in the other rooms. There's a charming kitchen with a long table perfect for home-cooked meals and a warm and cozy living room, which is where we gathered to catch up, tell stories, and enjoy each others' company. Several of us ambled around the property to say hi to the livestock, and all of us enjoyed the lived-in, family feel of the home. The house is about a 35 minute drive from the Santa Fe plaza, which we knew going into our stay and wasn't too bad, especially considering the extraordinary savings and extra amenities we enjoyed staying here rather than in a generic hotel in town. Julie was very responsive before we booked and kindly answered all of my many questions. My only regret was that I didn't get to meet her in person while we were there! Do note that in their "House Rules" they mention their cat, Bella. She was personable and kept mostly to herself, but you should take note if anyone in your party is allergic to cats and plan accordingly. (Two of us just had to pick up some allergy medicine.) She is present throughout the house! Also, it was quite cold when we stayed (lows in the upper teens), and while the house is heated and all the beds have cozy comforters, it's chilly when you're walking around, so bring layers and house slippers for the most comfort. Thanks again to Julie and Scott for welcoming us into your home! We had a truly marvelous time and would definitely stay again.

  • This rental worked out perfectly for me and my family - we had a pretty large group and the place accommodated us comfortably. Julie was a very gracious host, getting us checked in and showing us around. We really enjoyed the property and highly recommend it. It worked out especially well for us because we had first time little skiers and we wanted to avoid the crowds at the santa fe ski basin, so we went up to the Sipapu Resort, which was perfect. The drive from the adobe farmhouse to Sipapu is spectacular and takes less than an hour. Thanks Julie!!

  • Julie and Scott and their son are lovely people ..... so my comments are directed toward the accomodations and the web description .... ... ... web description of the downstairs bedroom (with loft) and the bath should be clarified. The room is small, cluttered, barely lit .... an additional bed (mattress) would cover any walking space. I think the upper bedroom is probably a better choice, ... altho the bath is shared and down the stairs. The shared bath is shared with all family members and all other guests. The "traditional NM working organic farm" is not a "farm"... but more accurately a family garden ..... I had hoped to learn something about irrigation and farming, as described on the web site. The description on the web site is VERY mis-leading. View host response

    Response from host:

We appreciate all of our guests' comments but must clarify some details as mentioned in Donna's recent review. Our listing indicates "shared bathrooms" in the very first line. This is our home, so yes, there are some personal items in the downstairs room and throught the house (though not in the upstairs room), but it still has a completely empty dresser and generous hanging space in the closet for guest clothing, and a completely clear desk surface for guest use. The room in question (with the loft bed and loveseat below) has two large windows with light filtering duette top-down/bottom-up shades, one ceiling fixture, one desk lamp, one reading lamp in the loft and one wall sconce below for the love seat. It was cloudy during Donna's visit (not typical for our area) so perhaps that contributed to her perception. We have happily hosted two people in this room with a mattress on the floor and we always let guests know about the space consideration if they choose this option. We live on 21 riverfront acres that we irrigate through a combination of drip irrigation for the smaller plots and traditional flood irrigation via a historic acequia system that we would be happy to explain and/or demonstrate to anyone who inquires. Right now we have an organic dairy herd on the land (in addition to our sweet horse Palo) and from time to time we host a seasonal organic grower. Our current big project involves removing the development rights from the irrigated acreage and placing the land into an agricultural easement to ensure that it will be farmed into the future. I assure you that our place is a very special one indeed (please see our reviews below) and that we go to great lengths to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of our guests. Please feel free to discuss any of your needs or concerns with us prior to making your reservation or at any time during your stay. Thanks so much, Julie.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the Bennett's home. My daughter and I enjoyed the peaceful setting, conducive to reading and relaxation. Thank you:)

  • Julie and Scott welcomed me into their home, and did everything to make my stay wonderful. Their house is charming, well-kept, and well-appointed, in a delightful bucolic location, yet only a short drive from Santa Fe. Very comfortable bed, spacious room, tasty breakfast makings. Best of all are Julie her family, who treated me like family in the best way possible. They know New Mexico well, and can give excellent advice on your touring. Highly, highly recommended!

  • The entire experience was a good surprise. Directions were clear and accurate, the house suited all of our needs and the location between Santa Fe and Taos allowed us to stay in a quiet area in the middle of the region we wanted to explore for a reasonable price. Julie went many extra miles in order to help and pamper us. She provided guidebooks and directions to places of interest, found an eye doctor when one of us needed one and even mailed back a treasured jacket we had forgotten. Highly recommended. The no nonsense and warm welcome is a big plus.
