Adobe Farmhouse Holiday Retreat

Since our group's stay at Julie and Scott's beautiful home, we've decided that we want to build a commune and live together all the time. This will be tricky, since four of us live in Texas and three in New York City, but if we can figure out how to create as hospitable and welcoming a place as this, we'll do it. We were in Santa Fe for a dear friend's wedding and decided to stay at this farmhouse for budgetary reasons, and so we could all spend time together. Our party comprised two couples, a baby, and two single gals. Julie and Scott went above and beyond to make us feel welcome -- including making their master bedroom available for myself, my husband, and 10-month-old. The house is huge! Each room has ample privacy. Baffled by the time change, our kiddo woke up at 4:30 every morning, but even with his chatting and bumping around, no one else heard him in the other rooms. There's a charming kitchen with a long table perfect for home-cooked meals and a warm and cozy living room, which is where we gathered to catch up, tell stories, and enjoy each others' company. Several of us ambled around the property to say hi to the livestock, and all of us enjoyed the lived-in, family feel of the home. The house is about a 35 minute drive from the Santa Fe plaza, which we knew going into our stay and wasn't too bad, especially considering the extraordinary savings and extra amenities we enjoyed staying here rather than in a generic hotel in town. Julie was very responsive before we booked and kindly answered all of my many questions. My only regret was that I didn't get to meet her in person while we were there! Do note that in their "House Rules" they mention their cat, Bella. She was personable and kept mostly to herself, but you should take note if anyone in your party is allergic to cats and plan accordingly. (Two of us just had to pick up some allergy medicine.) She is present throughout the house! Also, it was quite cold when we stayed (lows in the upper teens), and while the house is heated and all the beds have cozy comforters, it's chilly when you're walking around, so bring layers and house slippers for the most comfort. This rental worked out perfectly for me and my family - we had a pretty large group and the place accommodated us comfortably. Julie was a very gracious host, getting us checked in and showing us around. We really enjoyed the property and highly recommend it. It worked out especially well for us because we had first time little skiers and we wanted to avoid the crowds at the santa fe ski basin, so we went up to the Sipapu Resort, which was perfect. The drive from the adobe farmhouse to Sipapu is spectacular and takes less than an hour. Thanks Julie!!

Julie and Scott and their son are lovely people ..... so my comments are directed toward the accomodations and the web description .... ... ... web description of the downstairs bedroom (with loft) and the bath should be clarified. The room is small, cluttered, barely lit .... an additional bed (mattress) would cover any walking space. I think the upper bedroom is probably a better choice, ... altho the bath is shared and down the stairs. The shared bath is shared with all family members and all other guests. The "traditional NM working organic farm" is not a "farm"... but more accurately a family garden ..... I had hoped to learn something about irrigation and farming, as described on the web site. Julie and Scott welcomed me into their home, and did everything to make my stay wonderful. Their house is charming, well-kept, and well-appointed, in a delightful bucolic location, yet only a short drive from Santa Fe. Very comfortable bed, spacious room, tasty breakfast makings. Best of all are Julie her family, who treated me like family in the best way possible. They know New Mexico well, and can give excellent advice on your touring. Highly, highly recommended!

The entire experience was a good surprise. Directions were clear and accurate, the house suited all of our needs and the location between Santa Fe and Taos allowed us to stay in a quiet area in the middle of the region we wanted to explore for a reasonable price. Julie went many extra miles in order to help and pamper us. She provided guidebooks and directions to places of interest, found an eye doctor when one of us needed one and even mailed back a treasured jacket we had forgotten. Highly recommended. The no nonsense and warm welcome is a big plus.

Julie and Scott were warm and welcoming hosts! Their home felt so inviting and we enjoyed every bit of our time there. I look forward to coming back and staying with them again. They are a delightful family!

The Bennett's provided an incredibly welcoming home. They are astute and passionate people and have a gorgeous setting they reside in. Their adobe is quite charming indeed. Very helpful and generous at giving their time to answer questions and give suggestions. Much appreciated!

This is such a good location for the area where one can visit both Taos and Santa Fe and everything in between. country living at it's best. These are very cool people and I highly recommend them. Oh, and their son, Shafer - about the coolest kid I've ever met.

Our stay at the Bennett House was great. This was our first girl's vacation for my daughter and I, so I didn't want to book boring hotels along the way. Being able to stay with Julie, Scott, Schaefer and Bella (the cat) was wonderful. The house is very warm and inviting. Our room upstairs was comfortable and cozy. The Bennett's are a lovely family to stay with, and make you feel at home. We ran around the area so much, we didn't spend much time visiting, but when we did, it was really nice. We didn't stick to the original plans for Santa Fe. Instead, we decided to visit the parks and monuments in the area. Thanks to Julie's knowledge of the area, we found the Tsankawi Prehistoric Site that is part of the Bandelier Monument. My daughter and I had the best time exploring this area, and we even learned we have a new found love for hiking! I would definitely recommend staying here. In fact, we will try to book this place again for any future visits to the area.

Julie and Scott have a truly beautiful and peaceful home! We appreciated all the little touches like fresh cut flowers, a fridge in the room, snacks, and breakfast foods. Thank you so much for opening your home to us!

This is the country home I dreamed of, except with the special New Mexico pink sand plaster exterior that the region is so famous for. Julie is a wonderful and beautiful host, and Scott is an incredible craftsman (made the fishing pole an art piece). Julie made sure to show us all the good places to visit, trails nearby, hot spring, Taos, Santa Fe galleries, restaurants, and so on. It was an easy 30 min drive from Santa Fe Aiport. WIFI worked really well in the house. Bed is extremly comfortable (which is why we couldn't wake up for the sunrise the next day). Her upstair room looks out to a lush forest. It was quiet and beautiful. Staying in Julie and Scott's house made our experience in NM a truly memorable one. This is our very first airbnb experience, and they definitely made us believe in it. I would without a heartbeat recommend their place to anyone.

Lovely home, lovely family. Very welcoming, and comfortable atmosphere, plenty of local art and family photos. Shared some nice meals and conversations with our hosts. Several good places in and around the home to just sit and chill, tho we were on the move for most of our stay. 5 minutes from highway 84/285 to go north or south, and close to "High Road" to Taos. Prior guests have already pointed out the issue regarding the stairs to the 2nd floor bedroom, and the Bennetts are aware of this. Why would one ever stay at a hotel when a home like the Bennetts' is available (and probably less expensive)? Our trip was a memorable one, and time spent with them will stay part of that experience. This has been our 3rd Airbnb experience, and each time seems better than the last!

Excellent location. The hosts are very familiar with New Mexico and they take the time to point out great local spots to visit. I was torn between spending my time visiting the nearby attractions and laying around the house and farm. The contemporary adobe house is one of the most unique places I've ever stayed.

My friend and I stayed with the Bennetts for a week recently, and we couldn't have asked for a more welcoming situation. We felt comfortable in their home from the moment we arrived, and I'd recommend them as hosts in a heartbeat. They live on a quiet property about 20 minutes north of Santa Fe, which was perfect for us since we planned to explore the area, and it offered us a central starting point. It was also really great to come back to such a peaceful place after a busy day of sightseeing. They have a friendly horse named Palo (who loves carrots and apples, by the way) and some cows on their land that lend charming "moooos" to the rural soundtrack. Julie and Scott felt like old friends almost immediately. They know the Santa Fe area well and had lots of great recommendations. Julie's a great cook, and we had a delicious dinner one night with homemade salsa. We had plenty of privacy, and the beds were comfortable. The Bennetts' warm hospitality helped make our trip fun and memorable--a much more interesting experience than a week of generic hotel rooms. I recommend them as hosts without reservation.

I've known Julie for 26 years and have spent much time at her home. It is very comfortable and homey and she and her family are some of the finest people you'll ever meet. The house is clean, warm and friendly. Very beautiful setting.

Julie is amongst the most generated and genuine people in my world. As a stranger, she had me feel welcome and wanted; as a friend, she has me know that I am valued and honored. Julie is an intelligent, warm, interesting, thoughtful, wise, and inspiring woman; she laughs and shares herself with a comfortable ease and is a powerful contribution to any situation in which I have ever experienced her. Julie is one of the most honest, kind, good-hearted people I have ever met! I can't think of anyone who would be a better host. She is truly full of integrity and good intentions, and is down-to-earth and fun. She is also a true conversationalist, and a caring listener. She makes friends wherever she goes because people are drawn to her warmth and honesty. Her family is amazing, as well. Wonderful people. I would recommend them as hosts to anyone.
