My daughter and I loved our recent stay In Appartamento Croce del Travaglio in Casa Ambra, Cortona. The apartment was clean, had everything we required and is in a wonderful location - about 50 meters from the main piazza. The apartment is 'cosy' but that suited our needs as we were rarely in it during the day. Sophia, at reception, was very friendly and helpful - finding us an iron and ironing board promptly, and organising a taxi for us on departure. Communication leading up to, and during our stay, was comprehensive. We would definitely return to Casa Ambra and recommend it to our friends. We also like the look of their new, slightly more glamorous, hotel just opposite Casa Ambra! I think it is Hotel Cort.

A beautiful stay for two nights in this gorgeous apartment. The presentation and cleanliness were superb. The apartment has been lovingly restored in the traditional Tuscan style. The small kitchen area was handy to make simple meals. It's in the heart of town, just off the main square so incredibly easy to get to everything, yet also very quiet and peaceful. Ambra welcomed us warmly, told us all that we needed to know about Cortona and even showed us the best place to park just outside the old city walls. The apartment and meeting Ambra and her family were a positive experience.

Cynthia and I stayed in Cortona for (regrettably) only one night, in October of 2012. Cynthia: Cortona is a beautiful Tuscan hill town, and I hope to return someday soon, but honestly… meeting Ambra, her family, and her daughter Sara made our trip there very special. We were fortunate to have stayed in one of their lovely apartments. Ambra and her family take very special care of their guests…as well as what they provide their guests. They strive for a professional yet homey environment and seek to enthusiastically provide for all your needs. Sara, who speaks English, was a lovely greeter and host as well as her Mom, Ambra. We were nervous bringing our car to the center of the old town—and it seemed like everyone in the family, as well as the all neighbors pitched in to 1) quickly locate Ambra for me, and then 2) help us get unloaded and our car safely parked in the public parking area. During our stay, Ambra’s mother (the family’s “Nonna”) was also a delight and a wonderful source of information about Cortona’s history and their family life there. We had wonderful conversations with all. The apartments are very well outfitted and a lot of information is provided via guides and maps. Sara and Ambra can be reached for any questions you have. The décor is very thoughtful and the apartments are spotless. The location is amazing—only a few steps down toward the main piazza in town. (Note: you should know that Cortona is a town of stone and cell phone service is tricky there. If you have a computer or ipad…that’s helpful, as wifi at Casa Ambra worked fine for us). As mentioned earlier, we’ll miss Cortona, but we’ll best remember meeting and talking with Sara, Ambra, and their family. If you go…be sure to visit Ambra and her husband at the town market in Camucia at their cheese stall; you’ll be sure to receive an incredibly delicious treat! Wholeheartedly recommended. Wayne: Cortona is a gorgeous ancient little town, high on the shoulder of a ridge looking west over a wide, flat valley floor. The sunset was stunning. We felt completely welcomed by Sara and Ambra, and though our apartment (Croce del Travaglio) was quite small, the location was amazing. (Ambra also has other, larger apartments). The town is fun to walk around in; lots of ancient, steep, and crooked alleys, great views, a cool breeze. Parking, as in many of the walled hill towns, is outside the walls, and there is an excellent parking lot (free) accessible by two outdoor escalators which lead to the only flat street in Cortona, near the main square. But my main feeling about Cortona comes from the warmth of Ambra and her family. Sara warned us in an email that we should stay more days there, and she was right!
