Cozy, private studio in eclectic but clean 1908 historic building that was originally a boarding house. The building is not a permanent residence to anyone but is solely a traveler's hotel. This room with a full size (double) bed is on the top (2nd) floor and has wood floors, paneled walls and high ceilings. There is a sink in this room so you don't have to go down the hall to brush your teeth. You can stay to yourself and not mingle if you don't want to or be social and interact, either is totally fine. It is perfect for one person or a couple or a person traveling with a child . The living room (with fireplace) is open for sharing and the bath is down the wide hallway. Not a party house. Great for personal retreat, a business trip or base from which to explore. There is a charming balcony in the trees to enjoy; overlooking the sidewalk and urban bike traffic.
This cozy studio is in the Buckman neighborhood in Inner Southeast Portland. It's just minutes walk to the river, downtown, Hawthorne & Belmont Street. An artistic, eclectic neighborhood with lots of trees & bicycles and people buzzing. Coffee shops, wine bars, food carts, vintage stores, indie movie houses. Please check out location reviews for my other listing at Buckman Guest House (#28078) as this location is right around the block.
Bike parking and laundry in the basement. Street parking.
Would love to have you come and stay. Sheila

  • The "Walk Ups" were a lovely place to stay for our short Portland adventure. Ideal if you will be spending lots of time on the East side of the Willamette, or right across the river Downtown. Accessible to lots of buses and walking distance to downtown. Sheila was super helpful, answering any questions we had and being available by phone whenever we needed her. Vegan travelers, take note: This is a VERY convenient location for the vegan mini-mall and many delicious vegan/vegan-friendly restaurants.

  • great place, great location.

  • I loved it! but I was working the whole time, so that means another trip, so I can just chill. Clean, quiet, and comfortable. Thank you, Sheila!!

  • 16th Ave Walk-ups is a great little spot. Highly recommended! The whole space is a great little slice of old-school Portland. Cool turn of the century building is decorated with Buddhas and smells like nag champa. Common areas are pleasant and welcoming. The room was very cute with wood wainscoting and charming details. On a quiet street, but you can walk to all the action on lower Burnside.

  • I loved our stay at the 16th Avenue Walk-Up Studios. I don't like staying in stuffy hotels and this was the perfect solution. The house was old and had Portland charm. It was in a great SE location, convenient to all of our plans. While you do share a bathroom, there is a sink and mirror in your room so you can do most of your preening in privacy. I highly recommend staying here!

  • Sheila was incredibly helpful, from the moment I got into town to checking out. She made some great recommendations for eating, getting around, and stuff to do. Buckman 16th Ave is a great place as well. I highly recommend it. It's quiet, there are a ton of things to do nearby, and Sheila is a great host!

  • Great location, comfortable room, very nice kitchen and living room. Though I never met Sheila she was easy to communicate with. Definitely recommend.

  • Accommodations were perfect. Way more fun than staying in hotel. Sheila could not be a better host. Highly recommend!

  • Sheila is a warm, helpful hostess. The rooms are charmingly decorated. The location is perfect, centrally located. My only complaint is that the mattress was old(er) and saggy.

  • Great host was able to get a hold of her when I arrived and checked out after I left. I let her know I had another person staying with me at the last minute and she was completely OK with it. I paid the extra fee. The place is quite charming and cozy. Very clean and definitely would stay there again!

  • About: Hi there, My name is Sheila. I am a self employed, entrepreneur. I spent my first 20 years in Portland building my own neighborhood bars & restaurants, now I build them for other people. I have a charming 13 year old girl who is a great student, an excellent goalie and a great helper to me. We both enjoy people and love hosting events and guests. It has really been a pleasure to meet the people that have stayed with us both at the Buckman Guest House (where we live on the main floor in our own flat) and the 16th Avenue Walk Ups, which is now being care~taken by my friend Gabrielle. If you're coming to Portland, we'd love to have you come and stay with us anytime. Happy and safe travels to you and yours. Sheila
