The space

This is half a double, so it includes everything you will need. It is a self contained and open, airy space with a living room, full kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and laundry.

This fits two people; either a couple in the bedroom or two friends - one in the bedroom and the other on the fold down futon. *My license is only good for two people.*

Guest access

There are great places to eat, thrift, sip coffee, and see local theater and art within walking distance. If you need quick grocery items, the New Orleans Food Co-op and Mardi Gras Zone are just blocks away.

Great places to eat and drink are within a few minutes walking distance; Cake Cafe, Satsuma, Elizabeth's, Bacchanal, Mimi's, Mariza, Pizza Delicious, The Joint, Red's Chinese, Press Street Station and The Cheezy Cajun. There are a few bars in the area that now serve food as well, which is great when you are not ready to go home but need to eat.

I have basic cable hooked up, so local news and weather is available. There is Wifi at the house and at most coffee shops. If you need to use my printer for small things I will be happy to help you out with that as well. There is private laundry inside the house, so you do not have to return home with dirty clothes. Prices will be affected by festivals like Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest and the weekly rate dos NOT apply during these festival times.

You are welcome to enjoy the front porch, but with consideration to the neighborhood (and my cats).

Interaction with guests

The apartment is self contained and I leave it up to you to decide how much we talk. I don't want to invade your privacy and do not come into the apartment unless we arrange to do so. I supply the basics and then some. If you use up what is there, please purchase items such as laundry soap, body soap, dish detergent or toilet paper as you need it.

Other things to note

If you are highly (I mean extreme) allergic to animals, this may not be the right house for you. While there are NO pets allowed in the apartment, there are cats that hang on the porch and I have a dog. I may carry traces of dander (on me) into the apartment when I clean and I cannot guarantee a perfectly hypoallergenic environment.

There is also a train nearby, a neighbor's rooster, and a church bell. If you are highly sensitive to noise, you might want to find a spot further from the train and the church. (I don't even hear these things anymore.)

While we want you to feel at home, please treat the apartment with respect. If you are looking for a hotel atmosphere with a maid, please do not book my place.

Check in is anytime after 3:00 p.m. and check out is at 11:00 a.m. unless special arrangements are made. If you have a later flight and need to stow your bags at my place, we can arrange that unless one of us is unable to be here.

I have lived here for 16 years and can go on forever about the fun things to do in this city, so please ask away! I have also compiled a booklet of all the great things to do and see in the area and lots of pamphlets for swamp & plantation tours. I live on the property, so I am happy to chat, share a glass of wine on the porch, and help you enjoy your stay in New Orleans.

Working on my home in New Orleans I needed a place to stay close by. Carin's home in the Bywater, my favorite location of all New Orleans, was the perfect spot to lay my head and centrally located to everything! Oozing with hundred year old workmanship and architecture will submerge you into the old New Orleans charm. Close to everything!! Can't beat the price, location and hospitality. Perfect and highly recommend to anyone visiting NOLA.

Carin is super nice and very helpful. She's been in the area for a while so knows all the awesome places to go. She also has a ton of brochures, pamphlets and books about the area and what it has to offer. The house itself is super cute and it has everything you need. Short walk to a local grocery store, restaurants, shops and bars. Bedroom is nice and quiet, comfy bed and is dark in the morning which always made me feel really well rested. I like walking so did that the whole time I was in the area. Bourbon street is about a 30 minute walk and 12 minute Uber ride. So pretty close to all the happening stuff while being able to come back and unwind after being in all the craziness all day. I really enjoyed my stay and would love to come back if I ever visit New Orleans again!

Our 4 night stay at Carin's home was simply amazing! Her home is absolutely beautiful, & the location was perfect for our trip, (a 10-15 min walk to the street car, about 20 mins on foot to the Quarter..) The home was clean, comfortable, & all around lovely. Carin has taken obvious thought & care to make sure that guests are comfortable during their stay. This was our first time using Airbnb, & I just couldn't be any more pleased with the accommodations. The ease of communication with Carin regarding the arrangements was great, & we felt welcomed, but we also enjoyed a feeling of privacy. I just cannot say enough about how pleased we were with our stay!!! I highly recommend Carin as a host!

The house is in a charming quiet area. The houses are really unique here with different colorful paint jobs. There is a lot of history in this area . It was wonderful to have a functional kitchen with everything needed to cook. Carin has thought of everything a person could or would need to be comfortable here. All the little touches matter and it shows. I would recommend her house for the charm and comfort. She was easy to reach anytime I needed her. She deserves her super host status.

Carin is very nice. Her home is so incredibly charming and wonderful. I absolutely love the neighborhood and how quiet it is but yet you can be right in the quarter in a flash. Fantastic stay!

We really loved the location and the quiet neighborhood! Carin's place was in walking distance of some restaurants, coffee shops, and we walked to the quarter every single day! It was nice to have AC and the Wifi was reliable. Carin met us when we checked in and got us situated. The only downside was that termites were swarming and we had to keep lights off at night for a few hours - common in NOLA, but still had to kill a bunch that were swarming by a nightlight.

Response from Carin:
There is nothing that can be done about termites flying during termite season. Even the fanciest places can get them inside. Same with flying roaches. It is the South :)

Carin's home was the perfect place to stay for those who want to explore the unique neighborhoods east of the French Quarter. The property is about a 10 minute walk to the bars on Frenchman's street, and we always felt safe walking home at night. Carin was a great host....thanks so much!

I am originally from Milwaukee and graduated from UWM with an Art degree. I moved to New Orleans at the end of 2000 and fell in love with the city. I worked freelance and for a contractor for almost 10 years painting furniture and interiors. I am currently working with a bike tour company that shows people a different side of New Orleans. I am also teaching myself how to sew and upholster furniture. I love suggesting places to eat, see music, and enjoy the sights.

My 5 favorite cities that I've visited so far outside the USA: Prague, Saint Petersburg, Milan, Amsterdam and San Miguel de Allende. Favorites in USA: New Orleans, Austin, Chicago, Portland, and Milwaukee. Top 5 cities I hope to visit soon: Stockholm, London, Berlin, Marseille and Barcelona.
