Sang and "John"(he doesn't looks like John at all ^_^) are very friendly and helpful! I had a very pleasant stay at their place, wish I had stay there longer. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.
January 2012Great location!!
Very good location next to Times Square.
The host canceled my reservation 9 days before arrival.
The host canceled my reservation 4 days before arrival.
We had a great stay in N.Y.C . The flat is very clean and simple and close to lots of good places to eat on 9th st . We did a trade show at the Javits centre and it was an easy walk . Quiet neighbourhood . Very pleasant concierge . A pleasant experience indeed !
I had a great time at Don's. Great location, I never once felt unsecured, very safe environment. Will definately return.
The apartment was clean, easy to find and it was no trouble at all to get the key. We had a fantastic stay and I would recommend this place to anyone. It's really close to everything and if you like to walk a little, you can go almost anywhere in New York from this place!
Recomendable..
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was just perfect! Great great great location, really quiet, very safe and we had everything we needed, from shampoo to a comfortable bed. We will definitly come back and stay here again! It made our stay that much better!
December 2011We had the exact appartment on the pictures. Sang and John were perfect hosts. Friendly and flexible. When our luggage got lost, they called everyday and even offered to pick it up themselves from the airport. The building is very safe and the doormen very friendly. Times Square, the subway and bus stations just around the corner. Breathtaking view from the balcony. We would definately sty again anytime and recommend this place to anybody. Thanks again John and Sang!
I cannot rate this host highly enough. The natural feeling of stress before the arrival date was soon dissipated with a friendly call from Sang. Actually, my staying at his apartment with my 13-year-old son was delayed for 3 days due to an unexpected change on his side. Sang arranged for a stay at the Paramount Hotel in NYC and his manager John was awaiting us when we left the hotel and arrived at his apartment on West 42nd Street in New York. The location is nice because it is not that far from the hustle bustle of Times Sq. but far enough to enjoy some peace of mind. The apartment is very clean and nice. All in all, I was very pleased with a host that went out of his way to make sure that I had good time as a guest. His manager, John, was super nice, helping us to carry the suitcases to in and out of the apartment.
Great apartment! We arrived very late (4 AM) and the host was waiting to give us the key. The apartment was big (for a studio), very clean, everything worked, and with an excellent view. Location is also very good, it is 3 blocks from Time Sq, one of the biggest metro station, you can get everywhere from there. I would definitely rent it again in my visits to Manhattan.
We stayed at this apartment the first week of June 2011. Having initially had problems with our first booking and room preference due to problems with the original apartments management, Sang totally made up for it with his professional manner and prompt responses and looked for a suitable room for us. When we first arrived we were met at the apartment and taken up to the room. The apartment was very clean, a short walk to Time Square and the subway. The doorman of the building were very friendly. Sang always answered our queries. The apartment was well located, had laundry facilities and were glad to have stayed there during our time in NYC. Thank you Sang.
The apartment was everything that was promised and the location was perfect for our first visit to New York

I have to say my friends and I had a great time. We were right in the middle of all the excitement of Manhattan!! Transportation was so easy. Staying out late in Times Square knowing you were staying just down the road was the best thing. If you want to enjoy manhattan, stay here!!!!!
I actually didn't have the "G" apartment --- mine had no terrace. However, Sang has a few of them but they are basically the same. I would totally rent this apartment again. Sang and his manager, Jane, were very nice. I got in early and they let me put my bags in the room prior to check-in, which was very handy. The building is super nice, easy to find and right next to the Circle Line on 12th street. There's a turnaround in front and a parking garage that charges $35 per day in the building. Doormen greet you and help you with bags, the building is secure and elevators take you to your floor. There's also a park for kids, a dogpark and a small convenience store downstairs with coffee, sandwiches... and lots of seating outside. People were super friendly. The studio was well appointed with a kitchen, bath and large closet. The galley style kitchen was about the width of a refrigerator and stove -- but it had everything you need to cook for yourself. The main room had a queen sized bed and white dresser with a large TV with basic channels. They provided white linens, pillows and five white towels. There's also kitchen necessities, toilet paper -- but no SOAP, which was a surprise. The room was pretty clean - better than the hotels my friends were staying in, actually! It's conveniently located to the theater district, and with some footing it -- Restaurant row. It's also 3 blocks from Jacob Javits center (which is where I was). The day I came, the weather escalated to 82 degrees and the AC wasn't working, which was a bit of a problem...and Sang is getting that fixed. HOWEVER, the windows opened and on the 22nd floor it was really easy to get some air circulating. I must say, the view from the apartment was SPECTACULAR - talk about a full panoramic view of the city! You've got the historic New Yorker building and Empire State Buildings staring you in the face. I sat and worked in the comfy chair and took in the city lights and sounds for hours. It was also quiet except for your normal "city noise". There's just not much of a downside to this. My colleague rented a room at the GEM and it was half the size of my place. She paid $270 a night plus taxes & fees - almost $300 per night for her place. Mine was a bit more sterile but bigger, in a nicer neighborhood, and better appointed. I wouldn't have traded her. The only other cheap option was another popular hotel for $219 per night plus taxes and fees. Another colleague who stayed there called it a "Roach Hotel" that was filthy and full of bedbugs. So, it seems like I really made the right call! Thanks, Sang and Jane! I'd rent it again.
I cannot rate this "host" lowly enough. We never actually got a chance to stay in his one bedroom rental as a result of the most stressful and awful vacationing experience of my life. A long review follows this, so if you don't have time to read it, here are the cliff notes: • Host did NOT have permission to rent the unit he was offering • We were forced to cancel and book a room at a hotel on the same day of our arrival • Host did NOT offer a full refund as a result of his own error The details: Once my boyfriend and I arrived in New York, we called John and agreed to meet at the apartment building at 12 to exchange the keys. We arrived early and waited in the lobby for a little while. As we were waiting, the concierge/security man took notice and inquired as to what we were doing there. We told him, after which he looked troubled. He told us that there were some tenants of the building who were renting out their units without permission from the building’s management, and he was concerned that John was one of those people. Once John arrived, the concierge took him into another room and talked to him for 10 minutes or so. When they emerged, he told us that John and Sang did not have permission to rent their apartment, and although he was willing to turn a blind eye to us staying there as a favor, doing so could get him trouble with the management and would also involve us sneaking in the building past the other security guards to keep it under wraps. Slightly in shock, we thanked the concierge and followed John up to the unit. To be honest, it didn't seem like John really understood the gravity of the situation. He gave us the keys and we left. After that extremely awkward situation was over, we decided we felt too uncomfortable to stay there under the circumstances. We found a last minute hotel room and called Sang to request a refund. He agreed immediately and told us John would be by to deliver it (in cash) in the next 15 minutes or so. After 50 minutes of us waiting on the street outside the building surrounded by our luggage, a girl approached us and informed us she was a friend of Sang and John’s. She then offered us a partial refund, explaining that they would be keeping the portion that was Airbnb’s commission. We argued that the situation was entirely their fault for not understanding the terms of their lease. Furthermore, we were also incredibly inconvenienced by wasting almost an entire day of our 4-day vacation sorting this out, as well as spending the additional money on the hotel room and the roaming fees from all the calls we had to make to sort this out (about 40 minutes of phone calls total, charged at a rate of $1.45/minute). She refused to offer us any more than what she had and kept repeating the same point over and over again: that Airbnb took commission from our payment, therefore they didn’t owe us anything more. After getting absolutely nowhere, we decided to accept the payment she had and take the rest up with Airbnb. All in all, it was an awful experience. Although the apartment itself looked nice, unless you wish to be ejected by the building’s management I STRONGLY recommend you look elsewhere. Everything about Sang and John’s dealings screamed shadiness. Thankfully, Airbnb has since resolved the situation. We have received a full refund from them as well as a $100 gift card for our trouble. We also now know that in the future, should any problems arise we are to contact Airbnb immediately and they will take care of everything, including the refund and finding us a new place to stay. Situations like this count as a host cancellation and thus we are entitled to a FULL refund. In closing, a big thank you goes to Airbnb for handling this so well. And I sincerely hope that Sang has learned his lesson from this whole situation so that no one else has to go through anything like this.
