Buckman Guest House-Entire Top flr.

The Buckman Guest House was perfect! So perfect, we almost didn't want to leave at times. The house is a short ride to the city. But you don't need to go into the City Center too often because there are many restaurants, bars and places to shop a few blocks away. Sheila was very nice and very welcoming. She was super helpful with recommendations on places to go in the PDX area and how to navigate the buses. I'd definitely consider staying here again if I go back to Portland.

what a warm welcome we received on arrival at Buckman Guest house! We loved every part of our stay - Sheila our host, the special touches that had gone into the interior design, the location - all great. We were given great advice about local eateries, where to shop. Sheila made herself available to answer our questions any time and was really helpful and friendly.

I really enjoyed my time here. The whole space is beautiful and cozy, and Sheilas attention to detail shows. The sun lit rooms, big windows, and ample space to relax after a long day of strolling around Portland was a welcome oasis. I would definitely stay here again and would gladly recommend it to friends.

Roomy, comfortable space in S.E. Portland, though it's like being in an older house,not a modern hotel, if that matters to you. Close to many local places, especially little wine bars, and restaurants. Can sleep 5 people. Kitchen would accommodate most cooks, as it has many supplies, and cooking utensils.Does not have microwave. Fortunately without a TV, though you have wireless access

Sheila was a perfect host. Every little detail was accounted for and her place was so cute. She was so welcoming and helpful throughout our entire trip. There is also a bunch to experience right in her neighborhood. We would highly recommend staying with her.

We had a great time at Sheila's place. The apartment was warm and inviting, and the balcony overlooking the rooftops was a great place to relax and watch the sun go down. Sheila was very helpful from the moment we contacted her to the day we left to come back home. She did a great job of welcoming us to her neighbourhood. We will definitely be back to stay at the guesthouse next time we are in Portland, and would recommend it as a great place to stay.

We were six staying at the house - 4 adults and two babys... - it was the perfect location! Sheila even provided a playpen! Being able to make our own meals was great as with kids eating out is not always easy. We definitely recommend the place - also when traveling with kids!

Long overdue review! Sheila was a great host... was able to accommodate our goofy schedule and made sure we were ok during our stay. She also offered some suggestions on places to eat. The house itself is fantastic...great location to walk to several beer spots and a food cart pod (get the pizza!). Nicely decorated and homey... it was great to spread out during our short stay. If we had cooked, there was plenty to cook with, including some cookbooks for those needing inspiration. Definitely recommend!

Sheila had the place polished and ready for us, and left some great tips for restaurants as well. The place is very well located, there was easy parking, and overall it was a wonderful choice. Sheila was also quite pleasant to correspond with, and eager to make our stay pleasant.

Sheila is a lovely host! She made us very welcome and was available for all our needs while seeming invisible at the same time. I expect I'll be returning Portland and with Shelia is where I'll stay.

The walk-up itself is such a charming space. I love the way Sheila has decorated the shared living spaces and Studio C in which I stayed. There was such a homey feeling to staying here, and though I didn't see Sheila in person, she was always available via phone/text. The other guests were very respectful as well, and there was no conflict in sharing the space with other people. Everything we needed was provided--toiletries, towels, cups, bowls, utensils, etc. It was lovely to have a pantry and sink in the room, so we didn't disturb other guests. The only thing worth pointing out is that for light sleepers, the walls are rather thin, but this wasn't a big issue for us. I am so glad I chose to stay here; it was totally worth it and made me enjoy Portland so much more!

Ah the Buckman Walk Ups, what a beautiful place to spend the week in Portland. 20 mins walk from the city, a stone's throw from Belmont, a hop skip further from Hawthorne, surrounded by buses. A gorgeous old building with friendly neighbours downstairs and on the block (say hello to the Great Dane over the road!), a shared balcony gazing down over the street, a kitchen stocked with coffee, eggs, onions, garlic, and all the cooking implements. Sheila was lovely and chatty when we saw here, but isn't around the place constantly. We're perfectly happy to be left to our own devices though, and would honestly stay here again in a heartbeat.

The "Walk Ups" were a lovely place to stay for our short Portland adventure. Ideal if you will be spending lots of time on the East side of the Willamette, or right across the river Downtown. Accessible to lots of buses and walking distance to downtown. Sheila was super helpful, answering any questions we had and being available by phone whenever we needed her. Vegan travelers, take note: This is a VERY convenient location for the vegan mini-mall and many delicious vegan/vegan-friendly restaurants.

Sheila is always the most accommodating host, and makes sure that every single detail is perfect in all of her rentals. We always have the best stays when we stay with Sheila!

I'm from Germany and before I came to the US, I have lived with my family in Colombia for four years. We have traveled a lot with our baby. So I always was looking for places where it would be comfortable to stay with a baby. I went to Portland to visit some friends and it was one of my rare journeys on my own. After my stay at Sheila's place, I know that it would be fine to come back with my son, too. The house and my room were very comfortable, big enough and with a sink in the room. There was a big living room and kitchen, and a big balcony that I enjoyed a couple of times talking with my friend. The bathroom was perfect, I never felt myself uncomfortable in this house, everything was clean, nice, quiet and lovely organized. Sheyla really was a great host from the first contact to the end of my journey. If you enter in this house, you will note many little signs which make you feel welcomed. Whenever I needed anything, I communicated her with a short text and there she was to help. I felt myself in a lovely and trustful ambience, I really do appreciate Sheyla's concept of being a host.

Sheila was the perfect hostess and I had a very pleasant stay. The room is a part of a much larger structure and the place just feels like home. The other guests were very kind and it felt like family. Located within walking distance of many cool spots in SE Portland and 2 blocks from a bus stop, you can be anywhere in town in minutes. Highly recommended.

I stayed in Studio C with my daughter (age 7) for 4 nights and the whole experience went way beyond my expectations. Our room, the common area, and pretty much the entire building were all super charming - a little rough around the edges but in a way that to me is better than “flawless”. I loved how our room and the living room were decorated, and the view from the balcony is gorgeous (especially in the spring). The location is not only convenient but the surrounding neighborhood(s) are filled with beautiful houses, gardens, and trees - a great area to walk around even when you don't have a destination. There's also a school park a block away, where my daughter played several times, including a few times with Sheila's daughter. As for Sheila, I can't imagine a cooler, more welcoming host. She's super laid back, yet very attentive and on top of things, which is a great combination. I've lived in Portland in the past and as a former local, staying here was perfect because I didn't feel like a tourist - I felt like a local again. (And oh, how I wish I was!) I would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Portland.

Fantastic little self-service short term rental that I feel very fortunate I found in such short notice. The room is big with two nice sized windows and your own sink. The bathroom is shared, but my entire stay (4 nights) I never found any problems in sharing it - in fact, it was available for my use anytime I wanted to. The bed is a futon, and on the firm side which wasn't a problem for me since I prefer firm beds. There's also a fan available in the room for those warm nights. The common areas are nicely appointed and very "lived in". During my stay, all the guests would meet at one time or another and all were super friendly. I spent a few hours over my stay just hanging out in the kitchen or living room area chatting. The host, Sheila is incredibly friendly and approachable - I felt like an old friend the moment I met her. Highly recommended.
