You can have an entire apartment instead of sleeping in someone's spare bedroom. We bought this house, moved into the second floor, and began fixing up this apartment on the first floor, then decided we liked it so much that we didn't want to rent it out. So we furnished it with cool furniture, some of my favorite photos, some premium airbeds with feather tops, etc. All in all, it's a real nice, real big place for one person, roomy enough for 8 people (but just one bathroom). Nobody lives here in the rental apartment, so it's not full of other people's stuff that they left so you could stay here for a few days, and we block off a day or two between guests so we can keep the place worthy. This is NOT a shared space, you book it, you are the only people that get to stay there.

The house was built in 1893. That's old in Chicago. Big, clean apartment in a big old house, so close to CTA pink line train that you can set your watch by it. The main entrance to the train station is across the street, 18 yards south. Entire first floor of the building in the picture - officially a two bedroom apartment turned into three bedrooms, with futons and airbeds. Kathleen, Craig, Aaron the cat and Mr. Sanchez the female puppy, all staunch Democrats, live upstairs in a separate apartment. We don't double book the apartment, it's all yours, with a separate entrance and your own keys to come and go as you please.
We buy fresh fruit, bagels, cream cheese, milk and orange juice for you the day you arrive. There is coffee, a coffee maker and tea as well. As of 7/25/2011, the apartment has brand new central heating and air conditioning. As of 8/18/2011, the apartment has super-fast wifi and cable television. As of 3/1/2012, the rustic room is way better than before. It will get way better still. I really need to update my photos of the apartment.
A train lover's paradise! Watch the Amtrak, Metra and freight trains on the north side through the 6' tall windows, or watch the city's CTA trains from the front porch or the yard on the south side! Yes, they make some noise. Fourteen minutes to downtown on the CTA train. And there's more......
We have a garage but we don't own (or need) a car, but this place came with a big garage so there is free parking for two vehicles - one in the garage, one on the driveway. Three bicycles available for use.
Fully functional and equipped kitchen in the apartment if you want to cook your own meals. Big grocery store very close. Very good Mexican restaurants super-close, the great Italian restaurants in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood are 5 minutes by bicycle, less than 20 minute walk. $99 for one or two people, $19 each additional person.
I'm certain I left out some stuff that you want to know, so send us a message.
