Stay in a unique open LOFT apartment space in a very interesting unusual artist building. Roof top garden straight out the back door shared with great interesting friendly responsible neighbours. Roof top surrounded by plants, flowers, shrubs, sunflowers, and herbs. Lots of tables with seating, two (2) lounge chairs, and three (3) BBQ grills for your cooking pleasure. Great people watching from the front windows.
Incredible view from the rooftop garden. You can see a beautiful old Polish Romanesque church, with Byzantine flourishes. The bells still ring twice a day, 12 noon and nightly at 6pm. The setting almost rivals anything in Europe. You can also see the Willis (Sears) tower, the John Hancock building and other downtown skyscrapers. Surrounded by the backs of other neighbourhoood houses and buildings, with old style water towers marking the skyline, along with birds, and a squirrel that has been visiting to eat the sunflower seeds left on the blooms from summer.
If you want to have a FULL-ON urban experience, feel the sights and sounds of the city in a safe Chicago neighbourhood. Two major bus lines that 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, safe and reliable that will take you to all the major sights, attractions, two subway, well, here in Chicago we call it the "EL". Everywhere you might want to go and see here in Chicago. Again two (2) miles to the Loop, both Michigan Ave and Downtown, "The Loop". But also with some respite in the garden straight out the back door of this space-- than this is the place for you!
This is an older and interesting building with lots of character.
Sleep in the open big main room. Your choice of a two (2) wider twin beds, a narrower twin bed couch. Or behind the 3/4 wall with a queen size bed. Have screens if you need more privacy. You could also bring your own tent to set up, just a suggestion. There is a 3/4 wall splitting the space, giving a little more privacy to the queen size bed. And, you have the choice to move the beds around in the space, where ever you feel most comfortable.
Full bath with tub, shower, and toilet. Extra toilet if needed on the 2nd floor in the hallway and very accessible from the roof. Full Kitchen, Washer & Dryer.
Wireless and cable internet access, TV (sorry no cable, you should be too busy going and exploring or listening to music or sitting on the roof, DVD's & VHS, and high end Hi-Fi stereo sound system. Great selection of music, both vinyl and CD's. Library with real books and magazines.
In the neigbhourhood, right down the street are "hip" cafes with outdoor seating, in Summer, restaurants, Mexican Taquerias, aka taco stands & Mexican restaurants. Thai restaurant across the street, incredible serious pie shop with seating, one of the best pie shop in the city, that also have some of the best muffins along with overly strong coffee. There are also two (2) excellent inexpensive pizza parlours, a small corner diner, an upscale vegetarian restaurant. Also a good Chinese restaurant with takeout, and delivery. Other restaurants close by: a new award winning interior, with organic fresh/slow cooking eclectic restaurant, one block away. Cuban, Puerto Rican, Sushi, one of the best Sushi restaurants according to some one who works at the Japanese Consulate and lived in Japan. Around the corner and two (2) blocks away is an old Chicago style 24 hr neighbourhood hamburger/hot dog stand. Best to visit in the middle of the night for a real experience.
Gas station, Walgreen's Drugstore, great dollar stores galore just downstairs, Drapery store. Not far from a good thrift stores, and much, much more....I have extensive knowledge of good "cheap" thrift stores and inexpensive (cheap) ethnic food shopping and restaurants.
Right on Chicago Ave and up and down Ashland, you will find hip shops, night clubs, bars, liquor stores, two (2) pubic city swimming pools.
The swimming pools are open to everyone for adult and children open swims for free. With access to several workout, exercise gyms.
Close to the expressway, two (2) blue line subway stops, making it easy to get from/to the airport, EL lines, and other public transportation connections. Metra Station a mile up the road, for north bound suburban trains, and 2 miles west for the west bound suburban train line.
Plenty of free street parking on the side streets behind my building.
Very safe.
Walking distance to West Division St, Wicker Park, Ukraine Village, Bucktown, and Humboldt Park. 10-15 minute bus/EL ride to downtown. 2.0 miles to Lake Michigan, and Michigan Ave sightseeing.
This is an alternative to high priced, no character hotels, and strange high-priced hostels in Chicago in a unique private artist building.
Stayed in hostels, hotels, private homes, etc....all over the world, and in lots of situations. So I know what it can be like,...
*Please Note: People and cat in pictures are not included. There are NO Animals living in the art gallery/apartment at present. But please take note, there are two (2) cats living upstairs from me. But at the same time my place is pet friendly. I love dogs, and cats. And would love to have you come with your pet(s).
**Fair Warning-- My place is right at the intersection of two (2) major streets. This is not the quietest place at times. You can hear street noise. Traffic, cars with car stereos playing all types of music, buses, trucks, people, fire and ambulance sirens passing during the day and sometimes at night, (depending). But there are times when it is very quiet, with no noise. (See pic above with no street traffic.) Also, my building and space is not new construction. If you are looking for a sterile condo situation, then this is NOT the place for you. My place has character, unusual with the authentic essence of urbane living at its finest, to give you a wonderful and unique experience!
