About this listing
Since I have just one room to let, you are always the special VIP guest who gets all my personalised attention. This residential colony is exclusive and quiet making it a peaceful haven in a chaotic city.
A pretty room, 12ft.x14ft. with an attached bathroom - no tub, but a powerful shower. It's on a low-rise 2nd floor - very gradual steps. The room's glass front overlooks the top of a pine tree full of pine cones (in Delhi!). The room has a writing desk with a chair, two bedside tables - set up with 2 flasks of boiled, chilled drinki ng water. It has a cupboard with 4 shelves and a lockable drawer, a small electronic safe and a hair-dryer. There is an overhead cable TV, enough electrical sockets for charger connections, and Wi-fi. A full length mirror behind the entrance door and a very-very-comfortable-kingsized-bed with attractive bed linen. Bath-towels and hand-towels are provided in the bathroom which is equipped with hot and cold running water (a geyser for the hot water), and a shaving socket.
You are very welcome to use the nicely appointed drawing-cum-dining room with it's bookshelves stocked with India Travel Guides, Delhi monument guides and a Food Guide. This lounge area is air-conditioned in summer with window units, and heated in winter. A spiral staircase leads up to the terrace garden, equipped with wooden garden furniture amid many, many plants of all descriptions. You are welcome to smoke here, as well as sip your evening cocktails!
Interaction with guests
Many flights come into Delhi after the witching hour, so I personally am available to check guests in 24x7. Ofcourse, walk-ins cant be guaranteed the same welcome. Check-out is at mid-day. A welcome soft drink and a quick tour around your room is definately given at any time of the day or night.
The Oberoi Apartments where I live, is a low-rise residential colony spread over 6 acres of Delhi, 2/3 of which is open area and lawns. It is well connected by the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro. The Metro Station is just a 10 minute walk away, and the Exit gate is No.4
Parking is available in the residential complex.
The Inter-State Bus Terminal, Kashmere Gate, is a landmark for the Oberoi Apartments and interstate buses including luxury Volvos, ply to hill destinations such as Shimla, Manali, Dharamsala ( the residence of the Dalai Lama is in McLeodganj, just 40 mins. ahead of Dharamsala). A Tibetan monastery and colony is just across my apartment on the Ring Road.
Autorickshaws, cycle-rickshaws , and economic radio-taxis are available everywhere in the vicinity As are air-conditioned buses at the Mori Gate stand. A bus plies between the ISBT and the domestic & international airports hourly.
The Airport Express Metro connects New Delhi station to the domestic and international airports. The Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro connects to almost everywhere in Delhi and the NCR (National Capital Region) and the Kashmere Gate station is just a 10 minute walk away.
Other things to note
You will have your own flat key so that you can let yourselves in at anytime.
It's my home too, and I have a 90-year old aunt living with me, and someone who helps with her.
The only other thing to note is that your Delhi Metro terminal is Kashmere Gate, and EXIT NO.4 which is marked "Sham Nath Marg" . You turn left, on the surface of the Metro, then left again, and a prominently marked "OBEROI APARTMENTS" is indicated between the two petrol pumps one on either side of the imposing wrought iron gates
marked Curzon House, 1903.
Well, just dress reasonably, and no loud music perhaps! There are no restrictions on smoking, alcohol, non-vegetarian food, shoes inside, etc. I can accommodate just one couple at a time and cannot accommodate an extra bed.
I was in the hotel business! For 28 years with the Oberoi Hotels. I then set up a Customer Service consultancy for the next 15-18 years. Now I am retired from both but really enjoy having my Homestay.
I also sold this Oberoi Apartment condimium housing complex to its original buyers. I have 3 grandchildren from 2 sons, and enjoy my golf, bridge and scrabble. That's me!
