Animal Lovers Special!

Frances Jones and Bruce Budd made our stay happy, comfortable and relaxed in their large and beautiful home located in scenic surroundings in the hills of Atenas. They had about 20 animals with them and took great care of looking after them. We had the pleasure of using the house and the kitchen without any restrictions. On hearing of the sudden demise of Sakuntala’s father they went out of the way in comforting her and spent long hours exploring ways to get us quickly back home. Given another opportunity we would definitely return to them as our hosts.

Bruce and Frances were excellent hosts. The views were incredible. The room is awesome. The dogs were friendly once the got to know us

We had a wonderful time in Atenas staying with Frances and Bruce. They made us feel completely at home from the very start and could not have been better hosts! Their house is spectacular and the views cannot be beat! To add to the treat was our enjoyment all of the dogs and cats there that they had rescued and added to their family until they can adopt them out. Simply an amazing couple with hearts of gold. We would highly recommend this stay for other animal lovers! It cannot be beat! Thanks so much Frances and Bruce foreverything. We simply loved it!

Frances and Bruce were terrific hosts along with their brood of animals. The view from their porch was spectacular, the animals were all well behaved and we enjoyed their home and companionship. Will come and stay with them again in the future,

We really enjoyed staying with Frances. The beautiful house has a magnificent view, and is very comfortable. It was very convenient to San Jose airport so catching our flight out the next day was stress free and a breeze to make. We enjoyed learning about Frances' animal rescue and the wonderful work she is doing. I wish I could have stayed longer to help out and learn more. The dogs were fun and friendly, and well behaved, although occasionally got a little excited and noisy as little dogs do, but immediately quieted with a hush from Frances (hint, if you don't like dogs, go somewhere else). They fixed us a wonderful breakfast and made our last night in Costa Rica special. I look forward to staying in touch with them and visiting them again.

Frances and Bruce were extremely gracious and kind hosts who are doing wonderful things in taking in and taking care of so many discarded and injured animals. And the view from their home out to the Nicoya Peninsula is one of the best I have ever seen! But if you're looking for a peaceful night's sleep, this might not be the place for you. Be forewarned it doesn't take much to get the dogs all barking at any given time. I feel bad giving a mixed review to such nice people but I wish one of the previous reviewers had brought this up prior to my stay. View host response

I had a very nice time in Atenas, thanks to Frances and her husband. They are great host, and they made me feel at home in their wonderful house.

if you love animals and very friendly people with big hearts, this is definitely the place to go. The view was amazing as are the people who run it. Would highly recommend staying here. The accommodations were very nice and very clean. Would gladly return.

If you are planning on staying in the Atenas area, then THIS is THE place to go! The accommodations are just as nice as the pictures, if not better. I was in the room with private bath which is a suite on par with a top rated hotel. What makes this accommodation even better are the superb hosts and, of course, the delightful furkids. Bruce gave me a personal tour of the town as an extension of a quick visit to his local computer store. Frances and Bruce invited me to join them in the evenings for dinners at some of their favorite local restaurants. And the dogs raucously greet everyone and then quickly settle down for as much loving as you are willing to offer. Spectacular vistas, furry friends, and considerate and caring hosts made this a truly memorable visit.

This was the best place we stayed during our 10 day visit to Costa Rica. We were only there for the weekend and wish it could have been longer. We felt right at home with Bruce & Frances and all the "kids". The home was beautiful high on a mountain and the room we had was roomy and so comfortable. This is an animal lover's paradise with their many furry kids. We miss them all already.

What an amazing place! Frances and Bruce are the most welcoming and lovely hosts we could have asked for. The went out of their way for us and we wished we could have stayed with them for longer. Their house is beautiful with the most stunning view of the Costa Rican mountains. And the fur kids! We were in dog and cat heaven! What lovely bundles of cuteness! We loved every single one of them. At this time Frances has 10 dogs and 4 cats. They were all so friendly, we miss them! The room we stayed in was spacious and spotlessly clean with our own big bath, shower and hot water (which you don't always get in Costa Rica). Frances is a truly inspirational woman for the work she does for the animals and she has so many interesting stories to tell about her animal rescues. If you love animals then stay here, you won't regret it.

Absolutely beautiful home with incredible > 180 degree views of mountains and gulf. Frances and Bruce were very welcoming, helpful and great to be around. Bed was exceptionally comfortable and we got a great nights sleep each night we were there. My wife got her dog fix from all of Frances' sweet furry friends, each of which were friendly and well mannered. Frances is to be commended for the work she does for CR's dogs. We were happy to be a part of it even in a small way. We hope to come back to CR and we wouldn't want to make a trip without seeing Frances and Bruce. They, their house and their dogs were truly a delight.

Warm and inviting! Comfortable with the most spectacular views! Great breakfast, great conversation and great "make yourself at home" feel! Your hosts are so kind and helpful and can acquaint you with the area. Loved the Furkids and all their great personalities! Perfect place for any and all animal lovers!

Frances and Bruce and all the dogs and cats they share their house with are absolutely wonderful. For any animal lover this is a place not to be missed, perfect to relax and enjoy this place and the surroundings. Plus, the climate up there is so much better than anything on the coast or San Jose.

I am a veterinarian who has been working with Frances for many years helping the most helpless animals. She moved to Costa Rica because of the lack of animal rescue there. She has helped so many animals and worked so hard. Adoptions there are not like here in the US where they can get decent adoption fees. Frances must raise all her own money to support these dogs and cat including veterinary care not to mention the food. And on top of that her home is beautiful and full of four-leggeds that LOVE some extra attention. You will have a great time and get lots of (dog) kisses!

If you love intellligent witty conversation, incredibly beautiful surroundings, and the friendly attentions of well mannered furry hosts, this is vacation heaven. Add to this convenience and a great cause...why would you stay anywhere else?

Frances and her family are long time friends, and I have had the joy of several visits with them in Costa Rica. The home and room are MORE clean and comfortable than you can imagine - and there are a wonderful group of fur kids there to entertain you. Their home is a place where each person can be his/her own authentic self, and be totally accepted as family. If you want to relax, travel, visit, or whatver, you are totally free to do so, in the MOST loving and beautiful place ever !!!! Go once, and it can become a wonderful habit :-)

The Jones' home is on top of a beautiful mountain and their back porch has the most spectacular views you'll ever see! You can see the valley below and watch the tropical wildlife from a very comfortable rocking chair on their back porch. On a nice day you can see the Pacific ocean. It's one of the best views!! Bruce & Frances welcome you into their home like you are family. Frances and Bruce are such nice people and they are so much fun to be around! You feel very relaxed hanging out in their gorgeous home that is impeccably clean and comfortable. If you like dogs then this is your place! Frances and Bruce have such big hearts that they rescue the homeless or orphaned dogs and cats that are in need. The dogs are all very sweet and welcome you to their home with wagging tails. Atenas is cute little town where the weather is always comfortable. They have fun little cafe's and restaurants and it's not touristy which I love. You are going to have a relaxing vacation while staying in Frances & Bruce's gorgeous home with breathtaking views and lots of happy dogs to greet you!

I am a very close friend of the Jones' and love them and all of the little Fuzzbutts (Dogs). We have been friends for seven years and have spent a lot of time with them. They have huge hearts and when it comes to helpless animals they go all out to see them fully taken care of.They have never to my knowledge turned even one away. They have the most beautiful view from their porch you will ever see. So love animals,love meeting knew and wonderful people and a great place to stay this is the place. Kay Costello

The Jone's have established and currently run the Lighthouse Animal Rescue. They use their own person time, money and energy to reach out, save and protect animals of all types. They also take time to educate the public about pet ownership and care. When animals are in danger they come to the rescue. They have a happy home full of energy and with spectacular views all the way out to the Pacific Ocean. There is no shortage of excitement nor peaceful tranquility at their home and rescue mission.
