Description

The space

When you arrive at our gate, you may think that you are lost - we are at the end of a country road just down from a couple of commercial nurseries and it doesn't look like there should be a home here. Don't worry! The gate at the street is a bit away from our home. Once we are notified of your arrival time, we will meet you at the gate to escort you to the guest house via a dirt road through a eucalyptus forest. We will provide you with a gate opener so you have easy access thereafter. Our home and guest house are situated on 9 acres, directly behind an organic nursery that supplies central coast farmers and we also are adjacent to a golf course community. We sometimes hear ATVs on nearby Pismo Dunes and sometimes hear the sounds of the nursery workers. Otherwise, it is a quiet, peaceful haven we enjoy. The rooms are located in a guesthouse separate from the main home. Privacy and space - perfect for a family of 4 or two couples on a weekend getaway. The main guest bathroom has a huge soaking tub with hand shower and the second bathroom with shower is located below the bedrooms next to the pool and sauna. A cheery kitchenette with refrigerator(no freezer), dishwasher and microwave and a dining area complete the guest house. *** Please note -- the listed appliances complete the kitchenette, no stove or oven.***Each bedroom is equipped with a wood burning fireplace and cozy terry robes. Wireless WIFI is available and a Bose wireless speaker is provided for music lovers.
We are convenient to many wineries in Arroyo Grande (Laetitia is only 2 miles away!), Edna Valley and Paso Robles. You can drive your car or ATV on the beach in Pismo, kayak, sail or relax on the sand in Avila, or enjoy farm to table meals at many fine restaurants. San Luis Obispo County is home to so many different events - from vineyard parties, farmers markets, local music and food festivals and so much more. You will never be bored!
We can tailor your stay to your liking - from complete privacy to providing you breakfast, happy hour libations and appetizers. We have a state of the art bbq center, large redwood slab bar area, and a fire pit.

Guest access

You will have full use of the entire guesthouse and can enjoy the firepit, bbq, sauna, jacuzzi and pool. We live in the main home, and would like to keep our spaces private.
We do love visiting and talking with guests, so please feel free to knock on the door or sit with us at the fire pit or bbq center.

Interaction with guests

We will be here to guide you from the gate to your home away from home. We will show you around, answer questions, help you with dinner or activity suggestions. You tell us how much you want to see us or not.

The neighborhood

Location - if you are looking for a place where you can walk to the store, restaurants, or bars --- this is not for you. We love that we don't have neighbors in the traditional sense. Everything about our home is different and in fact, part of your "adventure" will be entering through a eucalyptus forest, traveling through the back of a huge commercial nursery and entering our driveway through even more trees! If you arrive after dark, it will be really, really dark as there are no street lights - we truly are out in the country. It may seem a little odd or even weird, but once you are here, the nursery is all but forgotten. You will see a partial view from your room of the adjacent golf course, but other than that - no one else is around. Like we said -- private, peaceful, relaxing.

Getting around

We are approximately 5 miles from Grover Beach train station, 3 miles from 101 highway, and 2 miles from PCH. We are equa-distant from San Luis Obispo County Airport or Santa Maria Airport; about a 30 minute drive. LAX is 4 hours away as is SFO.
For local tours, wine tasting, etc., we can point you to transportation providers or provide maps, directions, and suggestions.
We have ample parking so don't worry about that. Your car will get a little dirty, though, as access is by dirt road through a eucalyptus forest and staging area for the nursery.

Other things to note

The nursery uses lamps at night to speed growth but they cannot be seen from your bedroom. Additionally, during cold winter nights, sometimes the nursery uses large fans to protect their seedlings. You will hear them arriving and departing - they can be loud. But we have never had anyone complain about hearing them inside the guesthouse.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
Check in time is 3PM - 9PM

NON SMOKERS ONLY!!! We have found that we have to be specific in that people have been "hiding" their smoking on our premises. Please note that this is a non-negotiable and will result in our keeping your deposit. No smoking of any kind allowed - indoors, outdoors, any where on the premises. We have very severe allergies to it and so does our dry eucalyptus forest. And - no illicit drugs or drunken behavior.
We are located in the County of San Luis Obispo -- and must collect a transient occupancy tax - 11 percent of your nightly charge. Unfortunately, airbnb doesn't provide a way to collect this tax online, therefore, please be aware that you will need to bring cash (or check) to pay the tax when checking in.
Renters must be 25 years of age or older - valid ID required at check-in.
Please be respectful of our neighboring nursery - do not go wandering around their premises or use their gate or hinder the workers in any way.
We value privacy and a healthy mix of fun, friends and peace. As for our home and premises --- ** PLEASE NOTE: Registered guests only on the premises and in the buildings or using facilities - so no unauthorized guests UNLESS pre-arranged by booking an event using the entertaining area - at that point, we need to talk about additional rules, cost and etiquette that will allow all of us to enjoy your stay.
No pets allowed. Need to board a pet in the area? We can help you find that.

We had a wonderful time at Robin & Liz's beautiful guest home. Such a beautiful place to come and unwind. They were super nice too!

Robin and Liz were very gracious hosts. They went out of their way to fulfill a small request in advance of our stay. The guest house was impeccable. Beds were very comfortable and refrigerator was filled with orange juice and berries for our breakfast. Husband enjoyed the granola and I adored the coffee! If we find ourselves in CA again, we will definitely stay here. Please pay careful attention to their driving insructions when you leave the main highway. They will come out to meet you at the appropriate time, otherwise you will get lost. As our stay was short, we only had time to use the hot tub but it didn't take to long to warm up and was a wonderful treat before bedtime.

Thanks Ealish! And - I appreciate your directions reminder -- we are very clear about our location in the listing, yes, it is dark and we are out in the country and not close to the street. That is why we meet each guest at the gate and give very specific directions. It's too bad you didn't have planned time to enjoy all the amenities. Hope the rest of your trip was wonderful.

Had a wonderful time at The Haven, great amenities, and warm hosts. Our hosts were both responsive to our needs and generous with their garden produce and eggs. The pool and the hot tub are gorgeous. Would definitely repeat.

Honestly, there is not a thing I would change about the Haven--except my schedule so I could get there more often. First of all, it's an architectural gem in a gorgeous setting, and the evening and morning light is like being in the worlds best art gallery--one that's also serving wine at the show ;) Every amenity is perfect, from the carefully curated kitchen selection (and farm fresh eggs in the fridge), to decadent shower supplies, to books and games if you forgot your own. Beds are cozy, towels are fluffy, hot tub and pool and sauna are like staying at a four star spa, except with far fewer people and a lot less pretension. ;) This is my third time staying here, and it will by no means be the last. This, to me, is a true example of the whole Airbnb concept--good places to stay and good people to host. All I have to do is turn up!!!

This was my first Airbnb experience and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Robin and Liz were excellent hosts that thought out every detail of the home and making us comfortable during our stay. The home was beautiful and immaculate. The amenities were so great, I just wish we had more time to use them all. Although the home is very secluded and peaceful it is a relatively short drive into town with great dining. It is also a short (about 15-20 minutes) to Pismo Beach where we enjoyed the dunes and great recommendations by Robin and Liz for ATV rentals. I simply don't have enough good things to say about the hosts and their home, I would highly recommend staying here. In fact we are going to book again soon with our 2 children.

It's a wonderful a wonderful home to relax and have fun and explore all that area has to offer. If you think Liz and Robin's home is too good to be true don't because it's everything you would expect and more.

Our stay here was Haven-ly! We are in the middle of remodeling our home, so it was a thrill to stay in a place that was so thoughtfully designed and such a joy to be in. Even before we arrived, Robin and Liz were attentive to our needs, responsive to texting, and made us feel welcome in every way. Right there when we needed them but they gave us our space. Upon arrival, Robin met us at the gate so we could follow him in his pickup truck to “the Haven” which is behind a working farm called Greenheart. Yummy coffee cake waiting in the kitchen. Not sure about the breakfast. You may need to arrange that. We brought breakfast items with us. I found some coffee in the kitchen but I am super picky so I bought a great medium roast (Mexico) at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf near the premium outlets in Pismo. Also got some great shoes at the Nine West outlet but I digress… The Haven made the perfect home base to explore this fabulous area. Two practically identical bedrooms kept the peace. Our kids retired to their boudoir happily and enjoyed the fabulous rotating table, perfect for horizontal adventure, in our case Lego and art. The kitchenette is well designed with fancy pants appliances such as a Breville toaster oven and convection microwave. The tools are minimal and the fridge is mini. I wouldn’t plan getting too chefy or bringing a lot of food unless you are a tetrus fan. It worked fine for basic fare. The colorful and textural dishes and sweet chicken conversations outside added a playful vibe. Luckily for us the chickens had been laying so we got some fresh eggs :) The wood stoves work great and we slept well in the comfy cozy beds. Lastly but perhaps bestly are the pool and hot tub. Though we didn’t use it, there is a sauna. There is also a bath house right next to the hot tub, sooooo convenient. The pool has a motorized cover and the hot tub has a wireless control. We frolicked to tunes on the tiny but powerful cordless Bluetooth equipped Bose player provided in the kitchen. Robin and Liz truly have thought of everything. Did I mention the epic Wifi? You can wander all over and get good signal. Hooray for technology. I highly recommend treating yourself to a sweet getaway at the Haven, a perfect way to hit the reset button.

Response from Robin And Liz:
Thanks, Amy! While we don't "cook" breakfast and haven't advertised doing so, we do leave berries, bananas, granola, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea and usually baked item (coffee cake) for our guests. The idea is to make it easy for our guests at least the first morning. And I'm sad you didn't try the coffee - it is premium medium roast, locally roasted from organic and fair trade sources. And - as you stated - if our chicks are laying we try to share! And, yes, the kitchen is a "kitchenette"; meant for vacationers/short term guests who want the convenience of being able to make their own beverages and light meals. I think the listing is accurate in reflecting it is not a full kitchen.

We are a semi-retired couple originally from Orange County. We often visited the SLO area and camped here with our children. We love the laid-back attitude, the ocean breezes, sparkling stars at night not to mention the fresh produce and wineries in the area. When we were looking for a place to live after our kids were on their own, we didn't look any further than here. We love hiking, kayaking, gardening and learning about our beautiful area here in California. We often visit local farms, are members at several of the wineries in the area and frequent small independent stores and restaurants.
We love being with our family and playing with our grandchildren. Our favorite vacation is hooking up our Airstream and taking off in any direction without an agenda so we can be open to what the world has to offer. Life is an adventure!
