A unique opportunity to experience life in a traditional Irish stone cottage,originally thatched , but now with a slate roof and all modern amenities. Situated in a stunning location on the edge of the Atlantic with panoramic views. It is ideal for either a quiet retreat or as a base to explore the area.Ideal also as inspiration for artists or writers. Perfect as a romantic getaway for couples. This area is a mecca for all outdoor activities,swimming,surfing,hill walking, cycling,horse riding,fishing, birdwatching,boat trips etc.
The cottage has direct access to a stunning coast walk from Ballyshannon to Rossnowlagh which was developed by the local community.
Please note minimum stay is three nights all year except July and August when minimium stay is one week.
Ballyshannon is the oldest town in Ireland!
Our rates provide for a weekely discount in that visitors get 7 nights for the price of 6. We have found that in the summer time many of our guests do take advantage of this saving and find that our location is very accessible to a wide range of attractions within a maximum radius of one hours drive, e.g. Glenveagh National Park, Sliabh League (highest sea cliffs in Europe), Killybegs Sea fishing, Marble Arch Geo park, Ulster American Folk Park, Belleek Pottery, Lough Erne cruising and fishing, Mullaghmore, Lissadell House (home of Countess Markievicz and the Gore Booth family/William Butler Yeats connections) , and many more.
Accomodation comprises large open plan living room/kitchen/dining area with wood burning stove. There is a traditional sleeping loft with a comfortable double bed.
There is an electric hob,a grill and microwave but no oven.
Separate shower room with wood burning stove. Outdoor seating and use of outdoor built in barbecue and fireplace.
Outdoor room for storing bikes, surf boards, wet suits, fishing gear etc. Secure parking.
Self catering with all basic provisions provided. including tea and coffee. We provide a complimentary welcome basket of bread,eggs, butter and milk.
We light the stoves prior to your arrival and provide a complimentary bale of peat briquettes. Additional briquettes are available for use should you require them. Normal price is 4 euro per bale. An "honesty box" is left in the cottage where you can pay for extra bales used.
There are back up electric radiators.
Use of Internet is in the study of the main house right beside the cottage,Guests can access this room directly from the outside.
While there is no cable tv available a DVD player and screen can be provided

We live beside the cottage and are available to provide any help and assistance as required.I was born in Ballyshannon and other than a few years away I have lived all my life in this area.We have intimate local knowledge and can advise visitors about the off the beaten track places.

I am a retired accountant and my wife Olive is a retired Psychologist.We have 4 adult children and 3 grandchildren. We are experienced independent travellers and like to get off the beaten track. Since our first extended trip of three months through Eastern Europe and Turkey in a camper van with 2 children in 1985 we have traveled in China,Mexico,Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Our last trips have been to India where for the last three years we spend two months each year assisting a local Indian NGO, Samuha. Profits from your stay in our cottage will go directly to Samuha-Samarthya (see the "Samuhaireland" page on WordPress).
I am interested in all music and have been involved with the annual Ballyshannon Traditional and Folk Music Festival for many years.
We are interested in nature conservation and have an organic vegetable garden and a wildflower garden at the cottage.
