Rachel is great, and the cabin is really cool. Great location and a very fun experience to stay in basically the rain forest. Not too far to walk to town, which was great exercise. Would definitely come back.

Our group of 9 had a great stay at Rachel's retreat. We really enjoyed the uniqueness of the property, and its location. It was recommended to us that we only take taxis to/from the property at night, but only after 2 nights of walking and we felt no real threat. Renting bikes is a good idea if you don't like to walk, but a car rental is not necessary at all. The town is very walkable and the beach at Playa Cocles is great. One of the pipes burst while we were visiting, which made things inconvenient for some group members while the water was being fixed, but didn't put a total damper on our trip. One of our group members did not like the open access to the house, so if that is something you're concerned about, I'd suggest you discuss with the owner before you book. It was a great stay and I can't wait to visit Puerto Viejo again!

Staying is this home was such an experience for my family of 7. First thing we saw was a sloth hanging out on a tree, monkeys, Toucans, and too many other wildlife to write down. The staff was friendly and so accommodating. Town is walking distance, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. The house was unique, and eco friendly. The Internet, water, and electricity was out due to down pours, but then the rain quits within a few minutes. "Papa" the maintenance man was Johnny on the spot and came and fixed what ever problems we had within a few minutes. The only big problem was no Internet and we had to go into town which is a short walk to get it. The electric company was suppose to come out but they did not while we were there. The home was clean and is perfect for 1 person to a complete family.

The house is exactly like shown in the photos- basic and serene. The rooms do not have AC and the bathrooms are small but you really have all you absolutely need the rest can be considered excess (depends on the traveler). It's not the place to sleep-in as it gets too hot and bright in the morning (7 a.m.) but it is surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants and has a spacious porch for relaxing and sipping some coffee. There were a lot of people visiting while we were there to work on the garden. It didn't bother me but thought you should know. The location is not too far from the town. A ten minute walk. There is a long dirt road you have to take before reaching the house. Maybe half a mile. I really recommend getting there by Taxi and then ridding a bike through it for the remainder of your stay. Like others mentioned, it gets dark but I used my flashlight on my phone to guide me through. Ana, Rachel's intern, greeted us when we first arrived. She was very pleasant, helpful and sweet. The house was a very unique experience like the other commentators mentioned. I would recommend the house to friends with a few disclosures as this is not the place for everyone; although, still an awesome experience.

We had a great time staying at Rachel's round house. It was great to be able to retreat from the town to the relaxing jungle. The house is beautiful, the garden is really cool, and each room was large and clean. Rachel and the visiting yoga instructor were very kind, knowledgeable, great conversationalists! There is a large kitchen, beautiful patio, and each bedroom has its own little porch. Hammocks abound! We did have a few issues - like the washing machine not working and running out of drinking water, but Rachel tried her best to resolve this during the busy Santa Semana. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Absolutely amazing. My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights just wishing it could be longer. It was relaxing and laid back. We didn't have any issues, everyone was helpful and welcoming. The morning was the most peaceful, waking up to the sounds of birds, and the wind. It's also in walking distance to the beach and small, but delicious food options. We're glad we got to experience staying at the roundhouse.

First of all, the house is amazing. I went with my mom, sister, and two neces. We had an incredible experience. DIFFERENT from anything we have tried before. The hole experience starts early in the morning with the sound of the monkeys, birds and all the nature. The location is perfect, calm and quiet and only 5-10 minutes walk from Puerto Viejo. Fully equipted in the kitchen. It has simple bedrooms, but thats not a bad thing at all. Perfect for doing yoga, have a peacefull stay and enjoy being in touch with nature. The house is ecofriendly. You can notice this in the house itself, the house trash system, and everything. You can learn a lot on how to have a more susteinable home. Rachel, the host, is great! She has everything in the house organized and explained. NOTE: the house is for a relaxing stay. No noise after 8pm.

I am from the United States and have lived in Costa Rica for fifteen years. I love to work with medicine plants and be outdoors in the rainforest.
