Welcome to our guest house! We love our neighborhood and know you will, too!

Located right on Alberta Street in the heart of the exciting and enterprising Alberta Arts District, we have private guest rooms, as well as shared accommodation, to serve you. Stay for a day or a week, we have price points geared toward all traveler budgets!

The Alberta Arts District is the center of all that's weird and wonderful about Portland. Come hang out at our guest house and wander Alberta Street...it's a cornucopia of funky and independent shops, galleries, bars & restaurants. We've got world famous pie, 5 kinds of Thai, an amazing tea shop, vegan bakery, co-op and guitar shop within a few blocks. Catch a flick at the Kennedy School or live music at the Alberta Street Pub or Alberta Rose Theater.

Every Last Thursday, we have a freewheeling art festival on the street. Last Thursday is a rich tradition where it's free to vend and attend. You'll see washboard bands, teen violinists, Native American drumming circles, fab art and funky attire right outside our front door!

Feel free to stay as long as you like...we want our home to feel like home to you while you're here!

We are on several major bus lines and one block from a designated biking boulevard. By car we are 10 minutes from the airport, Lloyd Center Mall, Convention Center and Light Rail and less than 15 minutes to downtown Portland.

Come experience Portland's quirkiest and most free thinking neighborhood!

  • This hostel was in a really fun part of Portland. There were tons of coffee shops, boutiques and restaurants around not to mention a great little whole foods market down the street. The hosts were warm and welcoming, the price was good and it was easy to get in and out of. The one thing this hostel lacks is sound-proofness, which doesn't matter if everyone is quiet, and the stairs creak very loudly. Nevertheless it's a great deal for the price, and I would certainly stay there again!

  • Our stay at the guesthouse was wonderful--Amazing location, really neat house, and the other guests staying there were super friendly. Rochelle was great in terms of communicating details about check-in. Would love to stay again next time I'm in PDX!

  • Just talking with Rochelle alone is worth the trip to Portland! She is accomodating, warm, gentle and sincere. The house is a delight complete with colorful decorations and art work. I can't say enough good things about my experience there, it is a true gem.

This is an ideal location for anyone interested in the nightlife and restaurant scene in Portland. The house is beautiful and lively. I didn't get to meet Rochelle during this stay, but she has set up a very accommodating and comfortable situation.

More about the host
  • Work: Storyteller
  • About: Greetings! I landed in the Northwest in 1990 and have lived here--mainly in Portland--ever since. I'm a storyteller, currently writing a musical. Portland is a great place for creativity--it's full of quirky, wonderful people, beautiful natural spots that feed the spirit and loads of cultural offerings. (I'm sure you've heard about Powell's Books, the ultimate planetary bookstore--at least in this galaxy!). I love to travel and I think one of the best parts of the experience is feeling welcome and comfortable wherever you land. When I'm on the road, I steer toward cheerful, friendly spots with just the right mix of privacy and community. A 3-year stint living in England in the 80s cemented my fondness for guest houses. Those happy stays primed me to seek out similar accommodations whenever I travel. While my son was growing up (he's off to college now) I wanted to fill him up with plenty of memorable travel experiences. We spent time in Europe, Mexico and Central America and more recently took two US road trips. If you're traveling with children, I'll be delighted to welcome them as guests! Our house is in a fabulous spot--right on Alberta Street, known for an artsy, free- and forward-thinking sensibility. Great food, art and shopping abound! I look forward to meeting you and hearing some of your stories (but only if you want to share!)
