Featured in hit movie, “You’ve Got Mail.” Excellent cappuccino and AMAZING rich desserts! Very noisy and crowded at night, but a great pace to rest in the afternoon after a day of sightseeing.

83rd Street. Home-cooked American food in a charming space. Wonderful breakfasts, but great all day & evening. The lines for weekend brunch go way down the street, so best to go during the week.

Like Cafe Lalo, a great place to relax over latte and cake, or a lovely salad.

I've had my hair cut by Robert since the 1980's, when he was a "pioneer" on the newly gentrifying Upper West Side. Robert Stuart is a "midtown" quality salon at UWS prices.

My guests from Paris, Olivier and Aude, recommend Prohibition as a great place for 20's/30's to hear live music, have a few drinks or a meal.

Amsterdam Ave, 87 Street. Charming, relaxed, good soups, omelettes, salads, entrees, wine, and fresh-baked popovers with jam and butter. Quieter than most neighborhood restaurants.

What can I say. It is simply wonderful, and it's just down the street from our B&B. Open every day.

A quintessential NYC experience. Two hot dogs with mustard & sauerkraut and a refreshing coconut-pineapple juice. Eat at the counter and watch the world go by for a few minutes.

Rare Lincoln Center restaurant that is NOT a tourist trap. Margaritas, fajitas, guacamole and more, in a spacious, pleasant space. Great bar area too. An oldie and a goodie.

Best Italian food in the neighborhood. Cash only. Get there early because they do not accept reservations and get very crowded. Worth it!!!

The David Rubenstein Atrium, Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets, sells discount tix everyday and houses free concerts on Thursday evenings.

Best Dominican rotisserie chicken, rice and beans, sweet plantains. Huge portion assures you leftovers to take home, and all at an astoundingly low price for this neighborhood. Muy sabroso!

Of course, you know about the Met Museum, but did you know that you can walk to it from our b&b through Central Park in 20 minutes? A lovely stroll, and I'm happy to lend you my membership card.

Excellent Indian food, gracious hosts, and a glass-enclosed cafe to watch the world go by. I've never had a bad meal at Indus Valley.

Guests recommend the Sunday 11 am service for wonderful Gospel music. Less crowded than Abyssinian Baptist. Check their website for details.

After visiting the Noguchi Museum, enjoy the sculpture and sunset views of Manhattan here in the park, and then eat a delicious dinner at one of Astoria's Greek restaurants.

If you are interested in visiting a Harlem church and hearing a gospel choir, several guests recommend the Wednesday 7pm service at perhaps the most famous African-American congregation.

I haven't been there yet, but this Cypriot restaurant gets great reviews and could make a good dinner stop after a day at the Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park. zenontaverna dot com

Like many good Chinatown restaurants, Nice Green Bo has a bland interior and indifferent service. Cash only. But the food is excellent. Be adventurous! On my last visit I tried crunchy baby eels. Mmm!
