Secluded Kailua Beach Bungalow

Couldn't have picked a better place to stay or rented from better people! We had a fabulous time all around. The bungalow was private, quiet and quaint, woke to the birds singing every morning before taking a nice long walk on the beach with our coffee. Many things to do within walking distance, extremely convenient. Loved chatting with Cheri and Scott, they made our trip that much more enjoyable! Would definitly stay here again if we return!

We had a lovely 2 weeks at the Kailua Beach Bungalow. Cheri and Scott we very pleasant to deal with. They gave us lots of ideas of things to do and see in the area, as well as excellent restaurant recommendations. The bungalow is stocked with pretty much anything you could need as well as lots of little extra treats, which we loved. It was amazing to just open the back gate and be on the beach. If we were back in Kailua in the future we would look into staying here again.

My partner and I had the distinct pleasure of spending a week in Cheri & Scott's beach bungalow in early December. We'd rented a car to have available for our island adventures, and the studio was the perfect home base. Very clean, very quiet, very comfortable. It had everything we needed, including the kitchen and accoutrements. While we chose to eat our bigger meals out, we definitely appreciated having the kitchen to prepare snacks and the lighter fare. Having Kailua Beach literally steps away was a special treat! It's just across the gated back yard, but it often felt like our own private getaway. When we were done with the soft white sand we relaxed in the garden in the evenings and on one very special night, were serenaded by the halau practicing across the fence. A rare, authentic Hawaiian treat! If you're a wind/kite surfing/sailing aficionado, you couldn't have chosen a better place to stay than the most popular wind sports beach on the island. For those who'd rather spectate than participate, you've got miles of pristine white sand from which to do so. The canoe, kayak and paddleboard rental place one block up the beach will keep you entertained for hours. Another excellent convenience was the Kalapawai Market, right next door (but far enough away to not be of any notice when you're "home"). Each morning we cruised on over for our coffee and a freshly-prepared breakfast or snack of choice before a relaxing walk on the beach. Not only does the Market have great food, but you can conveniently choose from a huge assortment of wine, sundries, snacks, some groceries and coffees (ready to drink or just the beans). The little town itself is also within walking distance from the bungalow. We fell in love with the vegetarian Down To Earth market/grocery store. Their salad and hot food bar was amazing and so simple! Anything you could possibly want or need can be found very nearby Scott & Cheri's place. As for the proprietors, they're simply lovely. Kind, funny, classy, thoughtful and extremely friendly, they'll do everything they can to make your stay at their place perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here and look forward to making it an annual visit. These are two of the best people I know, and they specialize in creating a comfortable guest space. We wholeheartedly agree with a previous review from Grant in January 2012. You'll be getting one of the best deals on the island! We're originally from Hawaii so we visit our family each year. This year we decided we didn't want to inconvenience them with their limited spaces, and so for the first time, took a chance with a rental in Hawaii. We stayed in Cheri and Scott's Kailua beach bungalow and this decision helped to make this Hawaii visit the most special in recent years. The bungalow is a quaint space right by the beach (one minute walk) - and living in Seattle now, we took advtange of the beach almost every day (without parking and traffic nightmares). Kailua beach is definitely one of the most beautiful beaches on Oahu, and depending on when you go, it feels almost like your own private beach. As described, the bungalow has all the amenities you could need for an extended stay (the kitchen is really great). We were especially happpy to see the coffee maker, beach towels (because who wants to buy expensive beach towels just for one week, right?), parking space, and very happy to see a shared washer and dryer! They even provided soaps, mini shampoo and conditioners, kleenexes, etc. Although a bit slow at times, there's also internet access, which was an absolute must for us. Cheri and Scott were both so welcoming and friendly, and although the bungalow is situated below their residence, they respect your privacy and space. They even had a welcome package for us with a nice bottle of wine, papaya and cookies. We thought that was so sweet. And for folks like us, cleanliness is super important. We've stayed in too many dirty places (surprisingly expensive hotels included) that's turned us off from traveling. Next to the Roxbury Motel in the Catskills (which was lick-the-surfaces clean), Cheri and Scott's bungalow was the second cleanest place we stayed at. We don't like places that just try to "appear clean" (like most hotels), we like places that are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and this place was just that. We also loved that Cheri and Scott are making this an affordable stay because there are way too many rentals that charge hotel prices, which doesn't make sense since people do rentals/airbnbs to get away from overpriced hotels in the first place. This price is definitely good for what you get. Other things to note about this place: they will give you security codes since the gate to the beach and the front entrance (at night) are secured. There's also a place right across the street where you can rent things like kayaks (and while you're at it, you can get yourself a shaved ice). If you're originally from Hawaii like us and need a beautiful non-Waikiki place to stay at, this bungalow is the best. We felt like tourists with fresh eyes of Hawaii, and that's a good thing. If you're a first time visitor, we'd recommend Kailua beach over the Waikiki beaches as your first-time island oasis experience (but you might want to rent a car). We'd definitely stay here again!
