Two fully renovated apartment suites, each with a separate entrance, full kitchen, color cable TV and assortment of DVDs, bathroom, free wi-fi, livingroom, and double bed. The upperstairs unit also has a fold out couch to accommodate kids or an extra adult. The Inn is located in the historic district of Old Economy Village about 18 miles from downtown Pittsburgh.

There is a wide variety of attractions in the area--from Old Economy Village (a 19th Century Harmonist Society historical site) adjacent to the B&B, to the Andy Warhol Museum and Scaife Gallery in nearby Pittsburgh, to Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural masterpieces, Falling Water and Kentuck Knob, a few hours drive away (advance reservations required). Sports lovers can watch the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins play; and fans of the outdoors can hike the beautiful hills of Western PA.

We also own the nearby Old Economy Cafe, where we prepare breakfast for our guests. We've recently begun offering a dinner option, too, for any guests who would like to eat a home-cooked dinner "at home" in their guest suites. Ask us for the menu!

  • We loved staying in this clean, historic and beautiful apartment. Soaking in the claw foot tub was a particular pleasure. And breakfast catered by Deb was delicious. We would definitely stay here again.

  • It was a pleasure staying at the Old Economy Inn. Debra and her husband did an awesome job restoring the old building, preserving the charme of the Inn while providing modern comfort. Communication was excellent, the Inn easy to find, the apartment clean, spacious and comfortable. The location is off the beaten path, yet only 20 minutes from Pittsburgh or the airport. I could not have asked for more. I met Debra when she brought an awesome breakfast the next morning. Our interest in creative writing made for a stimulating conversation and time passed way too quickly. She is a gracious host, always willing to help, and I am thankful to have met her. Overall, I am glad to have stayed at the Old Economy Inn and recommend it wholeheartedly.

  • I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. It was a nice little getaway for us, and we enjoyed everything that the Inn has to offer. The historic building, the antique decorations, a kitchen and bathroom with a shower, free Wifi, and a delicious breakfast delivered right to our door! You can't go wrong at the Old Economy Inn, so go ahead and treat yourself, you'll be glad that you did.

The place is charming, historic. she is very friendly and caring. We loved her place.

  • Debra has been an excellent host and her house is very quiet and peaceful. Perfect if you need to take some time off from everything. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a quiet and independent stay in Pittsburgh. Thank You Debra !!

  • Debra was a fantastic host. The apartment was clean, very spacious (much larger than I was expecting), charming and homey. We were so comfy cozy here. Enjoyed great coffee and what a pleasant treat to have a homemade breakfast brought to our door! And not only convenient but super delicious. Wish we had the time to stay another night. Thanks Debra!

  • Debra and her husband, Jim were terrific hosts. Very attentive. Not only did Deb make fine breakfastsut we took up on her offer for dinner two nights as well -- delivered to our door -- for a very reasonable additional charge added to our bill. Definitely worth it as there are few if any good restaurants in Ambridge. As expected in an historic home, furnishing were modest but quite adequate. Very clean. My wife and I would recommend OEI to anyone. J VanderZee Bloomington, IN

  • There are so many good things to say, I don't know where to start! This Inn and the hosts really made the vacation! We stayed in the upper unit at this superbly renovated Inn. It was so clean and simply furnished and decorated with items from the town's historical past. It truly felt like living in the 1800s with all of the modern amenities. The delicious breakfasts that were delivered to the door were phenomenal! All of the little touches....like the kitchen being stocked with fresh orange juice and all of the basics that you need to cook and serve; the shampoos and soaps; the thick towels; the night lights in each room; the beautiful light fixtures in each room; everything was perfect. Jim and Debbie were great hosts calling us each day to ask for our breakfast order and time for the next morning. They took the time to tell us about the historic town, attractions to see, give us directions to places and make recommendations for meals. It was so nice to come "home" each night to this wonderfully quaint inn. It was super close to the airport and to downtown Pittsburgh. We also spent a day just taking in the town and it's history and visiting establishments all of which were fascinating. Thank you, Debbie and Jim, for our stay! I look forward to coming back!

  • We were impressed with the presentation of the Old Economy Inn. Debra and Jim have blended “olde world” simplicity with modern comfort and convenience in a clever manner that is easy to maintain. The bed is a dream! With its restored buildings and strong sense of times past, Ambridge is an interesting historic river village. You can feel as if you are in a quiet restful corner of the world even though Pittsburgh is only some 30 minutes by road. Our four night stay was determined by combining our holiday plans with several business arrangements. We know it was not long enough to enjoy everything that Debra and Jim have on offer at their delightful Inn and the Old Economy Café.

  • Debbie and Jim are very nice people who took great care of us. The inn was very clean and met all our needs. Love going to their cafe for a good breakfast. On the days we did not go to the cafe the breakfast was delivered to the inn. We will definitely stay at Old Economy Inn the next time we are in the Pittsburgh area.

More about the host
  • Groups: Architects, Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, University of Michigan, Sewickley Academy, Shady Side Academy, University of Iowa
  • School: University of Iowa Writers Workshop
  • Work: Innkeeper, restaurateur, and poet!
  • About: I love the simple architecture of the Harmonist Society and did my best to restore the Inn in keeping with their style. If you treasure old houses, I really think you will love staying at the Inn. Make sure to visit the Old Economy Village, a state historical site, right down Church Street. We have also restored another Harmonist home about six blocks away from the Inn. This other building, which is also in the Old Economy Village historical district, is the new home for our catering business, the Old Economy Cafe. The Cafe opened in October, 2010, and it's where we prepare your breakfast and--upon special request--other meals for delivery to the Inn. Ask us about dinner options during your stay!
