This 1920's vintage Spanish home has charming art studios set in a garden menagerie. Designed to recall Frida Kahlo's animal-filled work spaces, the sunny studios have separate entrances. Each has a tiny kitchenette, sweet little bath, and is furnished with hand crafted rustic pieces. Please check our downstairs listings if this calendar is full. Each studio has a view of the barn yard where bougenvilla covered arbors shade amiable chickens, rabbits, goats, pig, etc.. There are art supplies for guest use and a special craft area. Resident artists offer classes.
Walk to the city's best urban hip/haute shopping, eateries and entertainment. We are steps or a bike ride away from The Grove, Design Center, Runyon Canyon, Kodak Theater, Beverly Center, Sunset Blvd., House of Blues, The Arc-Light, Whole Foods, Poinsettia Park's new outdoor gym, LA County Museum of Art, The Broad Contemporary, The Craft and Folk art Museum. Combine the best of country and city living!
You are welcome to bring well behaved, quiet pets. Please note that there are special restrictions regarding this setting. Because the studios are accessed through a garden gate proximate to the animals we can not accommodate additional visitors, if you are joining friends please plan to meet them off-site. The animals are very sensitive to voices so this setting is only appropriate for people who enjoy hearing critters, but can be comfortable being very quiet themselves while anywhere on the property. We have no televisions and ask that guests use headphones if listening to music. Pets are welcome if friendly and quiet, they are only allowed in limited areas, but there are some private patios for their enjoyment.

  • Byron and I had a really wonderful time staying in this remarkable home. It seems unbelievable that such a calm tranquil space exists so close to all the sights and sounds of Hollywood. Cindy and Anthony are absolutely lovely and are extremely hospitable, welcoming hosts. All of their suggestions of places to visit proved to be perfect, not least a wonderful brunch at the Blu Jam Cafe just around the corner. The decor in the apartments was beautiful and it made stunning setting for our unique trip. We were great fans of all the animals roaming around - it's not often you meet a tortoise in the morning, and we particularly enjoyed meeting Truffles, the baby pig! In short, a peerless location and wonderful hosts. Highly recommended, and just a shame that we couldn't stay longer.

  • They are very kind people and the place was pretty, quiet and very soothing

  • Just got back from a fabulous week-long stay with C & A and we couldn't have asked more from our hosts. I went with a friend and we split our time between both the upstairs studio and the two downstairs rooms. Both spaces were beautiful, comfortable and clean. The upstairs studio is particularly nice, with a little patio with a view of the yard and surrounding area. Perfect for morning coffee. The house is also very centrally located, in an area where you can actually walk to a bunch of shops and restaurants. As a result, we only rented a car for one day of our trip, but were easily able to find street parking when we did. As I've said, beyond the space being beautiful and making you feel as though you've stepped into a different city, C & A were fantastic hosts. My flight was seriously delayed and I ended up arriving 10 hours later than planned. Not only did they offer to pick me up at the airport, but then checked to make sure I was okay when the shuttle service I caught instead was taking longer than expected. And when I finally arrived a little after midnight, they were at the garden gate to let me in, carry my suitcase and show me to my room. In short, they were the perfect mix of friendly and helpful without being at all intrusive. As an added bonus, my friend and I had a great time playing with the animals (a thoroughly optional activity with the way the space is set up, if you aren't an animal enthusiast). The goats were my personal favorite, while my friend bonded with one of the resident rabbits. Overall, the space is an inviting respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. A great place to either use as a base for exploring the surrounding area, or as a bucolic retreat to kick back and read a book in the sunshine for an afternoon. Thanks so much to C & A and we will definitely be returning! - L & L

  • I was in the upper studio for more than 40 days... It was an amazing stay, the location is great for everything you want to do in Los Angeles, even if you have not a car. In the same time is like living in a quiet, relaxing place, with gracious and friendly pets. It 's been nice to be able to study and work quietly as if I were in the open countryside and yet be able to go out and find myself surrounded by people in Melrose! Cindy and Anthony are great people, are always available for assistance or useful information about the area... They are also skilled artists and are extremely precious even for art discussions. It was a perfect stay, I hope to return soon with my family!

  • My wife and I took one look at the ad for this accommodation and were immediately attracted to it. And our stay even exceeded our high expectations!! The studio is beautifully appointed and the animals on the "farm" were so much fun to interact with! The hosts Cindy & Anthony are lovely people who were extremely helpful. They gave us tremendous ideas for sightseeing and exploring LA. And if you're planning on doing anything from Downtown to Santa Monica, their West Hollywood location is so conveniently located! If you're looking for something a little unusual, we HIGHLY recommend staying here. Next time we visit LA, we will definitely look into staying here again. It was perfect.

  • I really enjoyed to stay in this house . With a very careful host . I fellt so homey and cozy all the time .. That I didn't wana leave that place. Animals r very friendly , calm and quiet . I'm sure That one day I ll come back and stay there again .

  • I loved my stay! No where else can you be nestled so close to the world renowned Melrose Avenue, but hidden away in zen retreat of peace and serenity. Cyan responded to my inquiry very quickly, and was able to check me in the same day. She called me through Airbnb before booking in order to talk about my stay and find out more about me, it was reassuring to let me know she cared. Cyan is personable and very informative upon arrival, showing me around and introducing me to the lovely animals, and then after the introduction she let me be to enjoy my privacy. Once I arrived, I marveled at the uniqueness of the space. Her beautiful animals are darlings, and her decór is absolutely lovely. The lower half is snug and cozy, and the upper studio is spacious and showered in natural light. I can't remember the last time I slept so well, the bed sooo comfortable! I wish I was able to stay longer, but the opportunity to visit such a unique home was well worth the one night I stayed. If you love animals, peace, and the eclectic lifestyle of Los Angeles' west side, you will love Cyan's place.

More about the host
  • About: We are LA artists, but have designed spaces to pretend we live elsewhere, perhaps in Pooh's Tree, Calder's Circus or on a flowery ranchito, next door to Trotsky in Coyoacan. Such pet filled places aren't for everyone, but consider a stay with us if you like quiet folks and friendly farm animals!
