About this listing

This cabin is part of an old boy's camp, Camp Waganaki on McWain Pond in Waterford, Maine. It is on the sunny side of the lake with beautiful sunsets. This lake has no public access is quiet and family friendly.

The space

This Cottage is part of a group of Camp buildings (view my other listings, Cabin-One and Cabin-Two) which comprises Camp Waganaki. They can be rented separately or together for the remainder of the available dates for the summer season 2017.

The Cabin is a short walk down a camp road that opens up to an old growth pine grove. The 250' of sunny waterfront with unsurpassed swimming and relaxation has a large grassy area with a large T-dock and float invite the guests to go no further. Linger in the hammock, screened in porch or take a paddle in the canoe or kayak. Listen to the loons, watch a pastoral sunset while sitting around the campfire. The waterfront is private and quiet as the lake has no public access and is family friendly.

The Cottage is rustic and cozy with a bedroom, bathroom with shower, washer and dryer, living room, screened porch and a full sized sit down kitchen. The bedroom has a king-size bed, the living room a queen-size futon. The screened porch has a sitting area and a dining area.

Interaction with guests

I am sometimes on the property as well as other guests in different cabins. This property has a great history of campers and families enjoying a "Traditional Maine Summer at Camp". Past campers stop by to visit the property to show their families where they spent past summers and relive their memories.

Other things to note

This is a fashioned after a traditional Maine Camp. It is an amazing spot on the lake. If you are looking for a condo this is not your place. If you are looking for a unique few days on a pristine lake with loons crying at night and owls hooting while sitting next to a bonfire with tiki torches then this is your place.

Mary Kate's place was a breath of fresh air. It took me back to my childhood when I use to Summer in Denmark as a young child. Mary Kate's cabin was exactly what I was looking for. I searched many different places, but this was the one I wanted to vacation at. Mary Kate was very helpful and greeted us when we arrived. She made many different suggestions of places to see and since I was an avid antique shopper, Mary Kate pointed me in the right direction. Everything we needed was right there at the cabin and it was very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend a trip to Mary Kate's cabin. I will be back to visit again. Thanks Mary Kate for everything!

Mary Kate is a awesome host! She is super friendly, funny, and has great knowledge of the area. She has a dog there who takes after his mommy. She can also tell you about the local hiking trails and etc, but those types of details are already in the information book in the cabin. Camp Waganaki used to be a "boyscout" type of a camp with lots of history. Cabin itself will have its own, very clean, bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink. Kitchen is provided with sink, gas stove, and all the pots and pan you might need, as well as kitchen knives and cutting boards. Not to mention all the cups, plates, and etc are all all there. Only things you would need to bring are the bedsheets, pillow cases, flashlight, and bath and beach towels. From the cabin/lodging area, it is about 2 minute walk down and back up to/from the water with little bit of slope. At the water, she has two kayaks, a canoe, and a paddle board that you can use. If you want to fish, there are small one in the water, but you will have to bring your own fishing poles and get your fishing license through Maine's website. All in all, we had a great time and couldn't have asked for more. Thanks Mary Kate!

Mary Kate was a fantastic host, everything is exactly how it's described in her listing. The views and grounds are incredible, the house is very warm, welcoming, and extremely comfortable. Kitchen was well appointed, and cottage was well stocked with board games, books, literature on local towns, hiking trails and outdoor outfitters. We spent cool nights cozied by the hearth in the cottage and warm afternoons down by the lake in the kayaks and on the hammock. Our dog Cosmo loved the place too.. going for quick dips in the lake and being lazy on the dock! Mary Kate was communicative, efficient and wonderful to talk to upon our check in and readily available with advice. She and her friend Diedra even welcomed us w/ fresh cider donuts and a pumpkin on the porch. If you're looking for accommodations that offer a true slice of Maine "camp life", Camp Waganaki is ideal. Laid back, rustic Maine at its finest and Mary Kate offered the epitome of a perfect AirBnB getaway. Almost hope this place stays a secret!!

Mary Kate was an excellent host, with great hiking recommendations and books and maps of the area. The cottage was perfect and peaceful. It had a well equipped kitchen, fireplace, which we used every night, and screened-in porch, a great place to read with a view. Mary Kate even provided us with a lobster pot to cook the lobster we bought on our drive up to Waterford. We had such a lovely time we can't wait to come back!

Camp Waganaki was enchanting and everything we were hoping for. Mary Kate was an excellent host. She made sure we had everything we needed and was gracious enough to give us an upgrade. We had a wonderful experience at the camp, relaxing by the pond, canoeing and kayaking as we pleased. Our dogs loved the cabin and had plenty of room to play. We hope to return next year and explore the area.

Active. Love the outdoors. Love my house in Maine.
Grateful for the family and friends in my life.
Love to share my passion of the outdoors with others - sharing my favorite hikes and natural spots with people that will appreciate them.
Have four children that are awesome and all have followed their own paths - sometimes quite the challenge for me - their mom. I've learned from them and we are all very close.
When I travel I like to experience the REAL sense of the area. Get to know the local people, the unlikely spots, the hard to get to places. Not afraid to get out there by myself and explore.
I've recently been in Colorado - took a job teaching skiing and hike all over the place while running into big-horned sheep, elk and mule deer. No mountain lions yet!!
