Genuine Hong Kong experience - 1961

This was my first AirBnB experience, and I must say it was awesome. Communication with Nic was very clear and easy, and when I finally met him, he was absolutely hospitable. I mentioned I was in HK to eat some good food, and upon my return from a late night walk after checking in, Nic left a HK food book and Arts Map on my bed. I know HK pretty well and had my own agenda visiting with friends and family, so didn't get to see Nic or others living in the apt. much. Since I didn't see Nic at the apt. often, he was very kind and considerate to check in with me to make sure that things were going well, and to see if I needed anything. He also invited me out with others staying at the apt. to a local cafe to hang out on my last night and to take me vintage poster shopping (similar to the ones in the apt.), making time for us in his busy schedule (work and having an 8-month old boy). Nic is very knowledgable about HK and can definitely pinpoint you in the direction of where you need/want to go. He's got a great blend of knowing the touristy areas, but also of the real HK. He's a great resource and even better, a very cool person. It's too bad I didn't get to meet Trig. However, the room was quite big for HK standards and very unique and charming. I felt like I was taken back in time. The location of the apt. is awesome, very close to the Prince Edward MTR and within walking distance to all the fabulous eats and shopping of Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei. And getting to any other location in HK was easy and readily accessible through the MTR. I would definitely recommend this to friends, and if I ever need a place to stay in HK with an authentic, very hospitable vibe, then this is where I am headed. You will not go wrong.

I stayed there for 7 days. Recieved a very warm welcome from Nic who is a great host, very welcoming and friendly. Very elegant and classy guest house in a good location, less than five minutes walk from MTR station and other public transport. The room was wonderful spacious and comfortable. It has been a very enjoyable stay and everything went so perfect. Only one word:fantastic A big Thank you to Nic!!

You couldn't ask for a better-value place to stay in the real Hong Kong—away from the tourist masses, but in a super-convenient location. Nic offered a very warm welcome and great hospitality. The room is simple and comfortable, and it's a rare treat to be able to stay in an authentic HK building like this one.

We stayed in Nic & Trig's guesthouse for 4 nights. It was easy to find & easily accessible by nearby Metro station. Nic was an awesome host! He gave us lots of great info about Hong Kong & other helpful tips on places in Southeast Asia that we were headed to. He even took us out to show us more of what locals do. I would highly recommend staying at Nic's for the real Hong Kong experience.

My friend and I had an excellent stay in Nic and Trig's apartment. The location was very convenient: close to shops, markets, cafes, MTR station and bus stops. The house was very cozy and clean. It was so kind of Nic making sure that we are doing okay and showing around the places. We are grateful to our hosts' hospitality, help, and great first guesthouse experience.

Nic and Trig were the sweetest hosts one could expect. A friend and I stayed with them for 6 days, and every day we came home to various improvements to the house that clearly showed how incredibly thoughtful they are. Sometimes it was a new clothes hanger, other times a layer of wood for the cold bathroom floor, an additional set of house slippers.. (definitely not an exhaustive list!) They really do their best to make the stay as comfortable for guests as is possible. The location is fantastic, it's barely a 3 minute walk to the MTR with both the green and red lines. In fact everywhere around Kowloon can be reached by foot if one doesn't mind. Depending on your interests, I'm sure Nic can point you in the right direction. Having once mentioned I was really looking for one-off leather products, Nic got back to me with a list of great places. We were moved also by the food we were introduced to in the vicinity. This lovely couple REALLY know their locality well; I trust you won't be disappointed with their recommendations (we certainly weren't!) In fact, we almost didn't want to give such a raving review because we're slightly concerned it'd be super popular thereafter :B We hope to be in 1961 again soon!

Excellent little room in a proper Hong Kong apartment block. Tastefully decorated in a 70s style with great attention to detail, it makes a welcome change to a bland and dull budget hotel. The flat includes a few common areas, which I really appreciated - including the all important ability to make a cup of tea! With a comfortable bed the room was very quiet, making for a good night’s sleep. Nic and Trig are excellent hosts and quick to help. For Hong Kong this is excellent value for money!

i arrived, called Nic, and we went to the unit. Very chill guy. Showed me around. Luckily, i was the only person in the entire unit so I walked around naked the whole time. Just kidding, but it was a great place to stay. Amenities were a bit older, which I didn't mind. Location is perfect, with a lot of great foods, sights close by.

great time staying at their apartment near mong kok, an old retro building with a walkup staircase (great workout!). room was spacious and clean with thoughtful decor. the apartment provided a landline which was handy for local calls. nic was a very kind host that helped his guests get a local experience. strongly recommend this place to all on a budget but don't want to cut back on comfort.

Quick glimpse into my almost-an-essay review: — Whether you're doing business, having a layover in HK or you're a backpacker who just loves exploring things, there's definitely a plenty of good reasons to consider and book one of these rooms. — 3 main points: * perfect location, * the interior feels like home, and * the host is an amazing person. +++ Plus, of course, read the description carefully and don't forget to print out the directions from airport before you go. Ok, now that I had a couple of days to cool down a little bit and become able to estimate how great our vacation was I know what to start this with. It was my first trip to Hong Kong ever and so far this has been literally the best experience in my entire life. I should mention that this was my first time in Asia too, and of course I was amazed practically by everything, but nonetheless the location you live at is a major importance factor on any trip. And this one surely deserves giving it a try, because once you leave you'll want to come back in no time. So here we go, the street we were living at was just perfect. And when I say "perfect", I really mean it. It is not only that a closely located MTR station Prince Edward takes you to most places (HK Island and everywhere) just in 10-15 minutes, but also the street itself. Whenever you get on Nathan Rd you could just walk to all sorts of food and shopping places, enjoying along your way this vibrant neon outlook of Mong Kok at night or being in the center of the most densely populated area of the world during the day. We've been doing that a lot, if not too often for it to feel already like home. Don't get me wrong though, all these lights and hundreds of people are just a part of street HK experience. When you're inside your place, there is nothing of that kind to bother you. No loud noises, always good and sensible neighbours and a quiet atmosphere during the night for you to enjoy and sleep well. And to tell you the truth, after living at Nic's place for 10 days it really does start to feel like your homeplace. Nic is an unbelievably welcoming host who is also able to provide you with basic traveller's stuff like towels or hairdryer if needed. The whole place is just filled with thoughtfulness, if not to say love. Once Nic told me that for him and his wife this place is more like passion than a business, and having been there I can say that this is so true. Just check out the pictures, there's cute stickers with useful advice everywhere, and all these 80s posters and old-fashioned calendars do their job and actually create a home with its own atmosphere and character, which is an astonishing and incredible result for the money charged. So keeping that in mind, let us proceed to the fact that Nic is an amazing HK guru guide. Aside from well-known main tourist and mass attendance places, there is also something else. Trust me, Nic is aware of the whole galaxy of things, which are not and will never be included in tourist guides. If you're lucky and Nic has some free time, he might even accompany you and show you some authentic local restaurants, bargain shopping places, cheap offices with free WiFi and other HK treasures that you would've never found by yourself. In case he can't join your company, you could still recieve the address or advice on where to go or what to do. Of course all of this will happen in case you show your interest in it, no one is going to bother you if you are the type. And also, although I'm pretty sure that won't be the case, show some common sense and respect by not overdoing it and bothering the host at night time or too often. Just because keeping in mind that Nic doesn't really HAVE to do all these great things to you is a good idea. By the way, I’d like to say it once again, Nic, thank you for the place, useful advice and everything else you’ve done for us! We love HK and will never forget this amazing trip ♥♥♥.

For me, staying at Nic's place was like stepping into another world. Far away from the clinical sterility of interchangeable hotel rooms, this room (and the apartment it is within) exudes no shortage of character. Ideally located at the edge of the busiest parts of Mong Kok, you'll find effortless transit connections, round-the-clock convenience stores, same-day laundry service, and a wide assortment of early morning and late night eateries within two minutes walking time (as well as a satisfying four story climb). Best of all, you'll be treated to Nic's boundless hospitality, for which I will always be grateful. My only regret: I would have liked to have stayed longer!

I suddenly decided to go to HK, so I researched up AirBnB quickly- This place knocked me out with the attractive introduction and pictures which have the genuine mood of HK. I straight booked a room, it was amazing that Nic replied me so fast! He gave me the mail and text message for my convenience, so I could go to HK with an easy mind. In HK, Nic catched my taste and suggested me very attractive places to discover the real HK. I really appreciate it. Furthermore, I love that places where are decorated with vintage style. All the props and ornaments are very cute and lovely. It was pity that I didn’t have enough time to stay longer. However, I’ll absolutely visit again and stay longer in this lovely place. I strongly recommend this place and these very nice hosts! Nic is the very considerable host and he knows well about travelers’ mind. He respects guests’ taste and suggests suitable places according to it. It is lucky to meet a local person like him! I was happy to get all the information and kind mood from him. Hope that more people enjoy this experience!

Nic picked us up from our arrival point, and gave some good suggestions on food and things to do in the nearby area. Im sure he knows every ins and outs of the city, but since we had to visit family/we know the highlights quite well, it was just perfect to get some indepth info on the (obviously nice!) neighbourhood. Nic is very friendly and takes really good care on the appartment and the room. The interior of the place is just wonderful, felt like being in the 'in the mood for love' movie. It felt as it was really our home for the days we stayed. don't hesitate, stay here!!! and we will come back! :) thanks to Nic & Trig This was our first experience with Airbnb and it was a very positive one. It definitely is the best way of experiencing the real Hong Kong.

Genuine Hong Kong experience - 1972 COMMENT FROM PONG LAM I had visited this place during my chinese new year holiday. The place is awesome. Pricing is good & nearly unreasonable for staying in HK. Location is good as it locates at Prince Edward/MONG KOK, the centre of HK. You can simply get to any place in minutes by MTR. Shops, Foods, Cafe & Bars. All you can access thru this district. Easy & convenience. Lastly, the host couple are really nice & kind enough. Dudes, they do paid passions to build this nest. Should be respectful for this. I love you guys.

Because of the flight, I needed to stay in HK for one night....With such short time, I tried to make the most of my stay. And this genuine HK experience is really AMAZING!! Not only are is Nic extremely nice/helpful but also the house is so cute.....Every thing is perfect....oh, Nic, next time when you come to Taipei, please please let me know. It will be my turn to buy you dinner this time~~
