About this listing

Our warm and cosy, two bedroom stone cottage, with wood burning stove and rustic finish, is a true country retreat! Sitting among trees at the foot of a mountain, the cottage is the perfect base for exploring the wonderful South Kerry.

The space

The cottage, which was renovated from a stone ruin over 10 years ago, has all the charm of an old farm cottage with the conveniences of a modern home. The main room consists of a large open space with a low ceiling over one half, which forms the dining area. The other half is a double height space consisting of a sitting area in front of the fireplace with wood burning stove. The bedroom is accessed by a door next to the sitting area. This double height room with a king sized bed is the master bedroom. The stairs from the main room takes you to an open half-loft/mezzanine on which there are two more beds; 1 single and 1 double.
At the opposite end of the main room from the fireplace is an arch which leads to the kitchen and shower-room.

Guest access

The cottage is self-contained on its own plot of land at the end of a private country lane and will be totally yours for the duration of your stay.

Interaction with guests

We will meet you on arrival. Other than that we are nearby for chats or anything else you may need.

Other things to note

This is the perfect location from which to explore the stunning Skellig Cost on the Wild Atlantic Way. Fishing, hiking, cycling, golf, and horse riding can all be easily organised. The nearest beach is only 4 miles away and there are many others within easy reach. if you plan on Visiting the Skelligs we advise booking your trip as early as possible. As places are limited.

Very nicely remodeled classic farm house, totally modernized and comfortable. Great location on Ring of Kerry and close to so much beauty. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for seclusion with access to town.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Cottage. It is a quiet, secluded place with only the sounds of the small creek and the sheep in the pasture next to it. It has all the amenities you would want including a washer and dryer which we really appreciated. The wifi wasn't working when we arrived but was fixed and upgraded on the last day of our stay. It is now lightening fast! The Cottage is located 1 mi off the Ring of Kerry, so it is a great location for exploring and sight seeing. Ritchie's parents were excellent hosts and provided great suggestions for places to eat (if you like seafood, be sure to go to O'Neills on the Point and get the Hot and Cold plate as it is truly excellent!) and a great hike to do where you can get incredible views of the entire area, including a distant view of the Skelligs on a clear day. If you wish to take a Skellig cruise or a landing trip to Skellig Michael, but don't have a reservation, go to Portmagee at 8am and introduce yourself to all the boat captains inquiring about standby availability on their boats. We discovered if you just get in line without talking to them personally they will take people who asked ahead of those who arrived first as we didn't get on a landing cruise because of that. Anyway, the Eco cruise is great too, just remember the Dramamine! The Cottage is a special placee to stay for a memorable trip to the Ring and the SW corner of Ireland.

Fell in love with this beautiful cottage. Location is secluded with fabulous views. It's a great base for exploring Valentia, The Skelligs, Ballinskelligs, and a lovely retreat to come back to after a day of adventures!

Beautiful place to stay. Lovely vista from the picnic table outside. Short drive from the town and ruins. Big bathroom and kitchen and main floor bedroom. A double and single bed in the loft. Very comfortable and clean. We had a very quiet, relaxing stay.

Ritchie & His Parents were extremely welcoming! Their cottage is even more beautiful in person. The views are stunning and the horses & sheep are a great bonus! It really is the most tranquil, relaxing place to stay. There are lots of delicious restaurants in the nearby town of Cahersiveen, secluded beaches all around the area and it's right on the Ring of Kerry. The Internet was down during our stay, but this is the type of place you go to get away from all that stuff, so it wasn't a big deal. I highly recommend Ritchie's amazing cottage! We can't wait to go back!

Hi I'm Ritchie
As a host I look after the The Cottage & The Pod for my parents Mary & Tom , who live nearby and look after the cottage day to day. We love the opportunity hosting gives to meet new people and at the same time let our guest experience the unique place that is South Kerry.
I split my time between Cahersiveen (Home) and Cork city where I work Monday to Friday.
