This stay on Margarita Island was truly amazing. After having spent time in El Yaque and Juan Griego, I decided that I needed a more urban experience in Porlamar. After taking a taxi across the island, I was unsure about what to expect after a long ride down a beach road to a set of high rises near the hill called La Caracola. However, Saulius was waiting at the driveway as promised and he helped carry my luggage inside.
The apartment was stunning - nicely furnished with beautiful views of the ocean and La Caracola. The apartment had three beautiful bedrooms, each with its own bath, as well as a half bathroom off the entryway. Two balconies complement the views.
The kitchen was easy to use and Saulius and his wife had left a lunch plate. Saulius was kind enough to take me to the grocery store to get ready for my week. His wife also sent down some cooking oil to make up for my having forgotten to get some.
The 1.25 mile road along the beach back to the supermarket is closed every day from 6:00 am to 8:00 am in the morning and from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the afternoon for walkers, runners, skaters, and bikers. It was like heaven to be able to walk along the beach without the distraction of cars and, at the end, either go to the market or eat some of the delicious food prepared by various vendors.
The building pool is fabulous with a nice barbeque and a gym for use. People in the building are very friendly and want to support you in whatever ways you may need.
I had only two complaints. One, plumbing is bad throughout Venezuela and here is no exception. The apartment had strong sulfur smells coming out of all of the drains in the apartment's bathrooms and kitchen . Fortunately, Saulius has created a simple solution - cardboard squares placed over all of the sewer returns in all rooms.
The second issue is one beyond my host's control - people love to party on the side beach and the sounds from that can permeate the master bedroom. If you sleep soundly, however, and turn on the air conditioner, you can significantly cut down on the noise.
Other than those two minor issues, I had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this location to anyone visiting Margarita Island.
