Have an entire guest house to yourselves! Comfortable, private, and you can come and go on your own. Quiet and secure.

In the second story bedroom of this guest house you will be up high with windows all around and a view of sky and trees. It is very private and peaceful. The queen-sized bed has a comfortable mattress.

The downstairs has a living room with a comfortable sleeper sofa (and a normal queen-sized mattress-- not a futon) a full bathroom with shower, a small fridge, a table with electric teapot, coffee and tea, and a small closet where you can hang your clothes.

We built this cozy, energy efficient house in our backyard two years ago using the very best green products and lots of local purple heart cedar wood. The house shares the solar electricity we generate on panels on the main house. Energy efficient "mini-splits" heat and cool the upstairs and downstairs separately so you will be comfortable no matter what the outside temperature.

Pricing depends on how many people will be staying in the guest house and how many beds need to be prepared. For nonevent weekdays the regular price is $60/night and $75/night on Friday and Saturday. Typically that is for 2 adults and I do not charge for children unless they need the downstairs bed. If you need both upstairs and downstairs beds there is a $20/night extra charge--otherwise there are no additional charges, cleaning fees or security deposit. During events like SXSW, ACL and Nascar, prices/night will be higher, but not ridiculous!

We live close to UT and downtown Austin on the East side. We are within easy walking distance of several coffee shops -- Bennu's on MLK, Thunderbird on Manor Rd and one of the best Taco/Mexican food outdoor restaurants in Austin -- El Chilitos on Manor. East Side Cafe is also within walking distance and is highly recommended. Two bus lines come within 2 blocks of the house, #18 and #320.

The downstairs is handicapped accessible and the bathroom has grab bars. The shower has a 4" lip -- easy to step over.

We will give you the password to use our wireless.

We live in the front house and share our large yard with with our dog and five chickens who live in their own coop.

We will consider a request to bring a dog or cat.

We've lived here for 8 years and in Austin since 1995 so we can help you navigate Austin and I've linked a "guidebook" with all of our favorite eating and walking places. We've done a lot of traveling around the world and have stayed in B&Bs and Airbnbs so we've been the beneficiaries of wonderful hospitality and are happy to be your hosts. Enjoy the unique Aerie and Austin!

  • Very nice and clean house, it looks brand new. It slept three very comfortably. Belle was very responsive and replied immediately to my last minute booking request.

  • A beautiful property. The landlords were very friendly. The house is very comfortable. The woodwork upstairs is amazing.

  • Belle's guest house is a cozy, relaxing, wonderful retreat - what a jewel! I felt right at home.

  • My group's stay at the Aerie House could not have been any better. It is beautifully built and lovingly decorated, is immaculate and spacious, is surrounded by a beautiful garden, and Belle (and her cute pets) topped off our stay in Austin by making us feel very welcome and cared-for. Somehow we all agreed that it felt like being at our mom's (even though we all have different moms!) The neighborhood is quiet and nice to walk around in the mornings, bus and taxi service was pretty easy and cheap, and Belle's nearby cafe suggestions were perfect for our variety of needs (even plenty of yummy vegan options, esp. El Chilito). Loved it all and can't wait to return <3

  • Great location. Love the place, and she has a friendly dog and cat! Would highly recommend.

  • Charming, clean, cleverly designed and built guest house with chicken coop for a neighbor! Slightly spartan vibe (tiny shower) more than compensated for by comfortable bed, thoughtful mini-library, great light and wonderful host.

  • Belle's place is gorgeous and inspiring! The house is spotless clean and surrounded by beautiful trees. The best part is waking up in the morning and enjoying the sunrise from the comfortable bed (bed is located on second floor which has 5 windows). The neighborhood is quiet/safe and there is plenty of parking space available on the street. Belle is so kind and thoughtful that you'll feel right at home.

We stayed at the Aerie Guest House in April, 2012 while at a Conference in Austin. Overall, we liked it very much. It's a sweet little hideaway. It is small but cozy. The upstairs has a comfortable bed, a knotty pine ceiling, lots of windows, & good air conditioning. It would be helpful if there was a dresser or closet upstairs. Downstairs is a couch that can double as a bed, and a bathroom with shower,. It has a closet, table and fridge, all of which are small but adequate. The downstairs has a separate air conditioner as well as a ceiling fan. The place is not luxurious but has a certain charm. It is fine for 2-3 travelers and is a real value. Belle is a friendly and accomodating hostess. The location was excellent for us, with easy access to U-T and downtown, but we did have a car. Would definitely recommend to those who seek value more than luxury.

  • Very cute and quiet house managed by friendly folks. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here - it feels a bit like a really neat tree-house! I loved the chickens in the backyard too. :) Clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Thanks, Belle!

  • We enjoyed staying at The Aerie very much. Belle is a welcoming and thoughtful host. It is a great location for catching the bus downtown -Austin has an excellent bus system. We loved the country feel, with the chickens, cat and dog in the garden. The upstairs bedroom is like sleeping in the sky.

  • About: I am a writer working on a book about a homesteading community in northwest Colorado. I grew up in Colorado but I have lived and worked in West Virginia and now Texas. I've traveled to many parts of the world -- Russia and Syria to visit my daughters when they were studying abroad, Japan, Chile, Europe, Mexico and we've all been to Guatemala many times. I have two grown daughters and an 11 year-old daughter who is in 6th grade. My husband is works for a national conservation organization. We spend a lot of time outdoors -- walking, biking, canoeing. We also love to build things and did much of the work on the Aerie ourselves. We've traveled enough to appreciate hospitality and how people can make you feel comfortable and at home. We won't intrude on your life but we will be available if you need us.
