About this listing

Sleep at the top of the house in a lovely attic bedroom with private adjoining bathroom. Have breakfast with a gilded eagle. Spill out onto the lively neighbouring Cowley Road . A 22 minute walk (timed by (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps) takes you to Oxford's historic university colleges.

The space

We live in a lovely late Victorian terraced house. The guests' 2nd floor attic bedroom is cosy, comfortable, light and airy and suits two people well, with a double bed, bedside tables and lights, full length mirror with hanging space, a small desk, chair and hair drier. Your private adjoining bathroom, like the bedroom, has a sloping ceiling, small, but perfectly formed with shower, toilet, wash basin and enough shelves for your 'stuff'. A couple of years ago both rooms were almost entirely refurbished, even with a heated mirror in the bathroom, so it doesn't steam up !

Guest access

The top floor with your bedroom and bathroom is for your personal use, occasionally the other bedroom is used by family and friends but they will use another bathroom. Because our house is over a hundred years old the stairs are steep and twisting so heavy suitcases are difficult to manage.
We serve a wonderful breakfast in the kitchen/dining area and we are happy to make you a drink at any time if required, as we do not have facilities for making your own drinks upstairs.

If you need to launder any items we are happy to put them through the wash at the same as we do ours, alternatively you can use the washing machine facilities yourself for a charge of £5.00 per wash.

Interaction with guests

We have not registered for "Instant book" as we like to have some contact with our guests before booking. That way we get to know each other beforehand and when we open the door to you we feel we are welcoming friends to our house. This is what sets Airbnb hosts apart from the usual 'Bed and Breakfast'.
We enjoy meeting people and we hope you'll be happy if we join you for breakfast. Also we will help you as much as possible with any information on Oxford and the surrounding area.

Other things to note

We would love you to stay with us. However, BEFORE YOU CONTACT US COULD YOU VERIFY YOUR OFFLINE ID ( PASSPORT or DRIVING LICENCE ) WITH AIRBNB and write a little bit about yourself as we are not part of any social network.
We live in a house which is over 100 years old. We have steps up to our front door, and access to the attic bedroom and bathroom with a sloping ceiling is via two flights of stairs, so sadly this is not suitable for people who have mobility difficulties.
The house is equipped with an integrated fire alarm system and there are fire extinguishers at different points throughout the house.

Wonderful, cheery place just blocks from central Oxford with many nearby shops and very good restaurants. Dot and family are some of the finest people you'll ever meet. Be in some kind of physical shape as it's a bit of a climb upstairs to the room, which is cozy, comfortable, and very well appointed. Highly recommended!

I stayed in teh downstairs one bedroom flat. It is a self-contained unit with all the amenities and more. Neil and Dot could not have been more helpful and enjoyable as hosts. I highly recommend them as hosts and the area has everything as well as being a short walk to high street.

*Highly Recommended* We had such a lovely stay with Dot (Neil was away when we visited). Dot was so welcoming and made us feel completely at home. The location was perfect for a visit to the O2 and there is a huge variety of restaurants on your doorstep. Neil and Dot's home is a beautiful eclectic house obviously lived in by creative people. We came away very inspired. Oh and Dot's home made, toasted muesli is fab!

Dot and Neil were incredibly welcoming, helpful and accommodating during our short stay in Oxford. We had a great time exploring their recommended sights around town, the room was cosy, private and had everything we needed. We enjoyed our conversations over breakfast and they were both lovely hosts that we would highly recommend staying with. Thanks again Dot and Neil!

Neil and I are retired designer/makers, and are very interested in all aspects of art, craft and design and our home reflects our interests, we met each other at art school in the late 60's. Neil was a designer/furniture maker for 40 years and then concentrated on sculptural bird baths and bird tables. My training was in textiles for the fashion industry and now work part-time on small textile pieces and wall hangings. We enjoy going to exhibitions, concerts, the cinema, especially for world films, and visiting historical buildings. Lastly, travelling in our camper van both in Britain and Europe is an absolute joy. The freedom of the nomad! The latter pastime being one of the upsides of the semi retired!

We have been 'airbnb' hosts for a couple of years now and have loved meeting people from all walks of life and parts of the world. There is a lot of laughter in our lives. Our children are now grown-up and have left home so we now have the time and space to share our home in this lovely city with others and feel 'Airbnb' has given us this wonderful opportunity.
