I'm a designer and I've treated my amazingly cute, two bedroom apartment as a labor of love. I've spent lots of time and money making sure it's a place I want to call home, and I'd love for you to call it home when I'm not there to enjoy it. Oh, and there's a brand new iPad with 4G LTE for you to use while you're here. (More on the iPad later.)
The apartment has hardwood floors and exposed brick throughout, giving it a Downtown New York feel that you won't find at ANY hotel. The two bedrooms share a common living/dining/kitchen area and a bathroom. In the living area there's a top-of-the-line 40" Samsung LCD TV connected to HD Apple TV and the internet (but does not receive TV stations). And, if the mood suites, you can connect your laptop or mp3 player to listen to your music on Bose speakers. If nothing else, I suspect you'll take full advantage of the high-speed Wireless N internet connection.
The larger of the two bedrooms is furnished with a full bed that was designed by a local designer and handmade in Pennsylvania from sustainably managed walnut. There is an antique sewing desk from the Lower East Side, a gorgeous walnut mirror, a chandelier designed and made in NYC, and other high-end pieces. You have a large closet (by New York City standards) in addition to under-bed storage. I promise you there's not a hotel room this quaint and well-furnished in all of NYC. Your bedroom in particular receives splendid natural light, a precious commodity in New York City and one that makes waking up in the morning both easy and a pleasure.
The smaller bedroom is the one I sleep in when I'm home. It's playfully decorated in a black-and-white motif. It too has a full bed with drawers to store your clothes underneath. (Unfortunately the closet won't be available; it's going to house all of my personal stuff while you call the apartment home.) The beds in BOTH bedrooms come with luxury linens (for those of you counting, the thread count is 300+, and the duvets are designer as well). The towels are equally nice (Ralph Lauren and Hudson Park Luxury Collection. This is not your typical rental).
The two bedrooms share a bathroom. I'm leaving my Malin+Goetz (a very high-end NYC skin care company--the nicest boutique hotels in NYC carry their products) body wash, shampoo + conditioner for you to use during your stay, as well as their hand wash, which is incredible. Also, there's a professional-grade hair dryer, so don't worry about packing your own!
The location could not be better. I live a block from the L train and 3 blocks from Union Square, a major transportation hub. I straddle uptown and downtown but live just below 14th Street which means that the area is young, fun, and full of local stores, people and restaurants. I've traveled quite a bit and the East Village is still my favorite place in the world. I'm not even exaggerating.
I strive to minimize the environmental impact of maintaining an apartment in NYC. I pay a premium to ensure all of our electricity comes from wind power, I buy natural/organic cleaning supplies (from sponges to detergents to trash bags), use no-VOC paint, etc. I guess you could say it's a "green" apartment.
And about that iPad 3. It comes with 4G LTE and I've loaded it up with a TON of apps that will be SUPER useful for your stay in NYC. You can take it around with you and use the built-in map app to see exactly where you are and how to get to your destination. You can use it to download movies and watch them in bed, or control the HD Apple TV that is hooked up to the TV. (To download content like movies or music you'll have to ask me first as I don't give out the password, but I'm happy to purchase them for you in advance.) You can write emails on it. Read a book or the paper in a cafe. Really, it's HUGELY useful for visitors and I'm sure you'll love having one.
I'd love for you to call my apartment home when you're in NYC!
You and Eric
