Hi, and welcome to our home!

We live in a 300-year-old stone farmhouse nestled in the rolling east Cork countryside. We are a 15 minute drive from Midleton and about 30 minutes from Cork city. The house is a nurturing retreat, with warm wood floors and thick rock walls. The countryside around us is idyllic.... I feel like I'm holiday every day! (seriously, just WAIT till you take your first stroll down the lane) We moved here in the summer of 2011 and are really enjoying ourselves!

The house sits on the leeward slope of a ridge, with panoramic views of the wide valley. Our quiet lane is lined with rich hedgerow (where I wild harvest medicinal and edible plants) and there are miles of options for relaxing country strolls. Our gardens, which are a work in progress, are lined with original rock walls. The back garden is home to a neolithic standing stone and original farm outbuildings. The front garden is tree lined and home to a hammock in summer.

Our guest room is available for you most times of the year (unless we have friends or family visiting).  It is a cosy size; with sloped ceiling, double bed and deep floor-level windows that welcome the rising sun.  We share the bathroom, which has a tub with an electric shower.  The window in the bathroom faces west and is a wonderful place to soak in the evening as the sun sets!  The sitting room has a toasty wood burning stove, though we often burn turf because I love the smell!   (the house also has central heating) TV is a rare thing for us but we have a nice collection of DVD's available and, while the majority of my library is still in storage, there are books for you to enjoy, with some choice nuggets on Irish myth, history, archaeology, and folklore.

I am thrilled to share our home with you! I discovered AirBnB from a friend back in Austin and when we moved into this farmhouse I was eager to list our spare room. This is exactly the sort of location and experience I enjoy when I am travelling. It's a beautiful setting and out of the way enough not to feel "touristy".

*Please do note that the house would not easily accommodate mobility challenges as there are stairs to the bedroom, and you must climb into the tub in order to shower.*

Location:

As I said, the house is an easy 15 minute drive from Midleton, where you will find Ireland's first (and still one of the best) farmer's market every Saturday (Darina Allen's Ballymaloe Cookery School has a stall here and this market is where we do our weekly shop). Also in Midleton are the Jameson distillery, some lively pubs, great restaurants, plenty of shops, and the train in to Cork city, which is great for shopping and sight-seeing!  (the last train out of Cork city is 22:15)

Other nearby attractions are the Fota Wildlife Park and Barryscourt Castle. (see my Guidebook for additional ideas)

The house is a great base for exploring Cork, Waterford, and Tipperary (though west Cork is worth its own base due to the twisty nature of the roads). A lovely beach, with sea caves and peaceful sandy walks, is a 20 minute drive away.

If you are backpacking, the house is a lovely respite! The area is quiet, with low light pollution, and our lane is a low traffic road. Perfect for a few days recuperation before the adventure begins again!

Our local (the local pub) is a handy 2km walk down our lane-way. On the road there most Sundays you will find one of Ireland's heritage sports still being played: Road Bowling!  In fact, this area hosts one of the All Ireland Championships every year!

-We are located in a rural area (though easy to find). If you have a car this is a great base for touring. If you do not, it's a lovely location for quiet time reading, making art, taking long walks, cuddling in the sitting room, and generally relaxing in the Irish countryside. The neighbours are friendly and enjoy meeting our guests.-

  • This is the quintessential Irish country experience. Traci and Noel's historic home is tucked away into some lush countryside with stretching hillside views of neighboring pastures. A walk up the road is a must! As hosts we found Traci and Noel to be easygoing, inviting and warm, standing by with a pot of tea and a rhubarb tart from the local bakery. They were absolutely accommodating with an offer of local maps, suggestions for day treks, an insulated travel mug so I could take my morning coffee with us on the fly, recommendations for hopping local pubs complete with TRAD (traditional Irish music), and great places for dinner in town. Bring along a fresh package of corn tortillas from the USA (Traci hails from Austin, Texas) and you'll be forever in her heart!

  • I will always remember my wonderful stay at your home and the warm welcome and hospitality you offered me. Thank you!

  • Traci and Noel's place was BEAUTIFUL. I can't say enough good things about it. They were fun to chat with and gave us good suggestions as to places to visit and restaurants. Noel's breakfast was top notch.

  • Wow, just wow - Traci & Noel's home was an absolute dream! It is exactly as pictured and everything you imagine a charming Irish farmhouse to be. Beautiful, warm wooden floors and old stone walls set in a picturesque landscape with incredibly welcoming, friendly and informative hosts. Traci's knowledge of local lore is fascinating and Noel's locally-sourced breakfast is delicious! They provided helpful guide books and tips for sites, including the perfect recommendation for what turned out to be the best meal we had in all of Ireland. We can only hope to one day stay here again.

  • My friend and I LOVED staying at Traci's place. It was absolutely surreal. The scenery cannot be beaten. I took scenic jogs in the morning down the road outside their house. They treated us to a true traditional Irish breakfast that was positively delicious. They were excellent hosts who had our every comfort and convenience in mind. We had some of the best nights of our trip while staying here. If you are looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and peaceful getaway, look no further. Thanks, guys!

  • We had a magnificent stay at Tracy and Noel's charming house set in the beautiful Irish countryside. We enjoyed picturesque walks during the day and spent cosy evenings reading by the fireside. The house has been beautifully restored and we slept extremely well in the comfortable and tastefully appointed upstairs bedroom. Noel and Tracy were generous and welcoming hosts, and greeted us each morning with a superb Irish breakfast (with muesli, yogurt and toast available for the calorie-conscious) which was far better than any we had tried. I will forever hanker for their tasty, locally produced sausages and perfectly cooked eggs! An absolute delight.

  • This was a fairytale getaway. Traci and Noel were amazing hosts and made me feel welcome from the start with Traci bringing me a pot of tea as i sat by the cozy fire in the sitting room. The next morning Chef Noel prepared a five star Irish breakfast using organic meats and eggs. Their country home and surroundings were just what I needed to relax - stretches of green hills and country roads to walk and my room where I could see the sun rise through the mystical trees. I would highly recommend staying at Traci and Noel's house and next time I will book an appointment for Reiki with Traci.

  • This listing epitomizes the fairytale Irish culture. The house has amazing characteristics such as hidden gargoyles in the amazing stone walls, original lighting, standing stone in the back garden, cows and sheep in the background and wood burning stove in the sitting room, yet modern amenities, such as internet and a lovely bathtub, which we unfortunately didn't get a chance to use (we were told the sunset view is beautiful from the tub). The hosts, Traci and Noel went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Noel cooked an amazing Irish breakfast every morning and they even got me hot chocolate at the local farmers market. The bed is extremely comfortable, my only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer! They are both lovely welcoming people and between the hosts and the listing, this is the perfect package for an amazing getaway in Ireland! We would recommend this listing to anyone who would like a fairytale getaway!
