What an amazing place to stay! Full panoramic views of Arenal volcano and the rolling hills surrounding, herds of horses, Toucans, and countless other species of birds, this place truly lived up to it's name: "Birds Song". Allan even includes binoculars. If you are on the fence about booking upstairs vs. downstairs, upstairs is definitely the way to go. Easily one of the coolest places I have stayed at on Airbnb and worth every penny. Aside from the views, which were AMAZING, the bed was extremely comfortable, the tv was large, the outdoor shower was awesome, and the jacuzzi was a really nice touch- especially during afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Breakfast was on point. Filling and well-prepared right on our patio. Would be an exceptional choice for honeymooners, families, or even solo travelers looking for a slice of luxury in Costa Rica. 10/10 - will definitely be back. Allan is the man! While you are there, be sure to check out Kelly's restaurant for some really great and inexpensive food options.

Wow! What an amazing place. We had such a great time. Allan met us as soon as we arrived and showed us around. We had questions about what we wanted to do and where to go, so we had Allen join us for dinner and help us out! He helped us pick an amazing zip line through the rainforest (Sky) and walking bridges tour (also Sky), then a trip to the Los Lagos hot springs. The next day he told us about a hike up the Cerro Chato volcano which was followed by a visit to a different hot springs. By day three, our bodies were tired, so Allan helped us book morning yoga on the observation deck with Melissa followed by massages on the porch! Toss in Fabrissio's tasty breakfasts, the view that never got old, and oh so so so many beautiful birds and flowers... it was the perfect start to our first visit to Costa Rica!

Allan's place was a very special stop in our trip to Costa Rica. We stayed there for two nights and we really enjoyed it. The house is high in the Valley facing the Arenal Volcano and I think I am fair if I say that the views from the room and his garden are one of the most impressive things I have seen. Ideally you need a 4x4 to access his property and the area. Allan was very welcoming and friendly and his tips were very helpful. One of his employees Fabricio comes every morning and cooks a simple but very nice breakfast. We found that very charming. All together a great experience, would highly recommend this place.

Wow! Wow! Wow! From the moment we booked and Allan immediately called to discuss the reservation we were wowed! The attentiveness, immediate communicate, genuine warmth and care made Allan a person we want to spend more time with. Natalia's cooking was out of this world and oh my goodness!!!! THE LOCATION!!! Bird song is a reason in itself to go to this area of the world! If you are venturing to Arsenal, YOU MUST STAY HERE! Beautiful beyond description. We will recommend to everyone we know!

Wow. Just wow!!! It's WAY more gorgeous in person. Pictures could never capture the beauty of this place!!! Allan is such gracious host and is a joy to talk with. We had such a great time hanging out with him!! He helped us spot a beautiful toucan from the window.. The outdoor shower was fantastic....the whole place is beyond words. El Castillo is a gorgeous town and close to everything while still being private and removed from the hustle and bustle. Just perfect. Stop looking and stay here. You'll be glad you did.

Great view of the volcano and observation deck for star gazing. A little tough to get to (need 4x4) but worth the trip if you want a quiet and secluded place. Breakfast was good.

We were supposed to stay at Allan's place for three nights. Beginning and preparations were great, Allan quickly responded to all my questions, called me and helped with route options from Monteverde, overall great first impression. We got to the place Monday night. It was already dark, and the electricity was out. Allan showed us the place, gave us some fruit ... we could not see much with just one flashlight, but after he left, we got our headlamps out and looked around little bit more. We discovered that there are layers of dust everywhere, dead insect all over jacuzzi (not one or two flies, bottom was covered with insect every few inches), spiderwebs around microwave, some old food leftovers in the fridge. We thought about leaving right away, but it was dark with tropical rainstorm outside, no electricity and no internet, so we decided to stay one night and decide in the morning. In the bathroom, there was another surprise, a gecko under the sink, and we also found some lizards crawling on the walls. In the morning, we packed our things. I tried to reason with Allan and explain to him, that we will not stay in the place that is this dirty, and asked for some refund. He refused to reason with me, his comment was, that he did not know what he should be refunding, and "look at my 150 positive reviews on the internet". All those reviews were reason we decided for Birdsong villa, but our experience was completely different. The place would be amazing if it was clean. The view in the morning must be stunning (I think that is what most people see, so they tend to ignore the rest of the property) I am used to being in the nature, I spent weeks at a time just with my sleeping bag and bivy in the wilderness, so I would easily get over the fact that there was some wildlife in the house, as well as the fact that the electricity was out (this was of course not Allan's fault, but the fact that we could not use any of the amenities certainly did not contribute to pleasant stay). However, the fact, that the place is so dirty caused us to leave two nights early. Right before I left, Allan said that "he could have the place cleaned, and there is no problem". Unfortunately, it does not work like that - I am not interested in watching people cleaning our bedroom while we are there on our vacation (did I mention it was still raining outside, so we could not really go anywhere ?) The place was supposedly cleaned the day before. I have no reason not to believe that - floors seemed swept, sheets were clean as well. But all those less prominent places you do not see right away when you enter the room (top of the fridge, bathtub, inside refrigerator) were not touched for a long time. Overall, this was...
