This is the guest room. I do not have a current photograph of it yet but please picture it very full, but clean!

Currently we have quite a lot of things stored in it and it is not this serenely presentable. But it remains quiet and the bedding and towels for you freshly washed before your arrival. That's us, looking forward to our guests.

About this listing

• Sleep comfortably with clean cotton sheets and feather duvet in our guest room (currently full of moving boxes) • Close to the Bus stop #82 : reach Liverpool City Center in 10 minutes. • Great for one night or short stays. • An economical stay near the center, in a quiet but convenient to reach location, with an artist couple: An Artist-photographer & a Glassmaker.

(NOT close to the football station at all. My home is not at all suitable for party-goers, or arriving home drunk, sorry.)

The space

is Birgit, Jason is the bonus host. We are friendly and quiet and will enjoy sharing our tea or coffee with you. Sometimes Jason makes oat porridge for breakfast - he will share it with you when he does.

••• THE ROOM: •••
Your bed is a comfortable mattress on the ground, which will be presented with fresh cotton bed sheets, feather duvet and pillows with cotton covers. Additional blankets are available to make you cozy. The home is usually warm.

••• The KITCHEN •••
1) you can use it a little but we don't offer full (big meal) cooking access. But you can warm something up or make yourself a tea.
2) apologies to those who think I'm mad: No meat or poultry.
3) you can use the water filter, toaster, space in the fridge, no need to ask, just feel welcome.
4) I work in the same room that the kitchen is in.

••• About SMOKING: ••• sorry, strictly no smoking please.

••• Guests with BABIES: •••
Perhaps a challenge, but definitely possible. Small children: my place is not ideal for small children at all because at the moment it is absolutely overflowing with art materials and stuff everywhere, while I pack up to move countries, soon. But if you are ok with keeping an eye on your little one then I have no issue with you bringing a child of any age. Please feel welcome but check in with me first.

••• WIFI: •••

••• THE APARTMENT is nice from the inside: •••
Our apartment is in a house which contains several other apartments.

••• DISTANCES: •••
We are really very close to town. You can walk or take the bus. The bus stop is 5 minutes walk away. When my back-up bicycle is working I may be able to lend it to you.

••• LOCATION: •••
Our place is 5 minutes walk from Lark Lane; a cute street with Cafes, bars and restaurants, 2 parks, the bus stop to the airport and to the city center (journey time respectively 25-35 minutes and 10-15, walking time about 25 minutes to the city).

We also live a short walk from St Michael's Train station from where you can catch a direct train to the city center and to Formby beach and Southport, with many other locations if you change trains.

••• the HOST(s): •••
We will live in the flat when you visit and are able to point you to a few places that you might be interested in. Jason may or may not be here depending on his work-schedule in America.

••• Parking: •••
free and available off the street (we have a drive way).

••• external appearance of the house: •••
it is in need of restoration. But you'll be inside an apartment that has been completely refurbished and renovated 3 years ago. Your room & the bathroom will be clean. The remaining apartment can be a bit eccentric..

••• nearby entertainment: •••
1) the many choices of bars, cafes, restaurants and even live music on Lark lane.
2) Sefton Park and Princes Park 3) the public library 5 minutes from the apartment
3) you may read a book from Birgit's bookshelf
4) a community center on lark lane offers pottery classes, yoga classes and massage treatments & you have the option to take a Yoga Class with us, we both teach.

••• REQUESTS: •••
We rarely accept requests without a short letter. Please write a little about yourself when you put in a request for the room. And ideally you are verified through Airbnb's various verifying options. If you are a man then the above are essential.

first things first: Please understand that we are not providing hotel style accommodation. The price charged is for your clean sleeping spot & roughly cleaned before you arrive bathroom.

• We do not draw a worthwhile wage or profit from hosting on Airbnb. •

• So: Why do we even host?:• Our reason for hosting is that we enjoy having occasional guests and offering an affordable sleeping spot for the night; and the few pennies we make are a little help with paying the heating and electricity bills.

••• BEDDING •••
The duvets are real feather, which will help keep you warm in case the night is chilly, the duvet covers are either very high cotton or 100% cotton.
The cushions vary, some have feathers, some are synthetic filled, all cushions are usually covered in 2 (!) layers of cotton pillow cases.
There are extra blankets to use in case you need more layers to be warm

The covers are washed with environmentally friendly washing powder. There won't be artificial air fresheners or strong scented deodoriser smells in your room. Usually the air is clean and nice to breathe. {I am writing this as my first and only experience of being a guest through another hosting site included a toilet air freshener, highly deodorised sheets and no window to open! This will NOT happen to you in my place. Your room has 2 windows and comes pre-aired!}

Your towel will be freshly washed, with environmentally laundry detergent, I do not use conditioner on laundry as it is not good for you or the planet.

••• P.S. important: •••
Birgit works from home most of the time so coordinating arrival and departure times is quite easy. BUT it is really important that you let us know what time you arrive so that Birgit isn't stuck in the house waiting for many hours.

Guest access

I had to move a fair amount of my art studio things into the guest room for storage, so it is a bit busy, which is why I have substantially lowered the nightly price. You are still welcome but .

••• APPLIES at all times, because we live here: •••
We only accepting guests we feel very comfortable and safe with to host. If we think you wouldn't like the apartment we will suggest alternative Airbnb hosts to you. It is really important to us that, even so this apartment is currently a little eccentric, that you feel well rested, comfortable and happy while you are here.

I will make sure to have all clean bedding for you, clean towels and a bathroom that was cleaned in the 24 hours before your arrival. It usually is not possible for me to make the entire flat very tidy because I am living at working from home. So the other rooms will be lived in - sometimes more, sometimes less tidy. The charge for your nightly stay is for your clean bedding, room with a door and the bathroom use. My home is not minimalist, even so I am currently trying to sell as many art works as I can to create space.
I am working in the kitchen-living room, which also functions as my studio & office.

We can NOT give out our key (it's one of those impossible to get a copy of). And we are generally asking our guests to leave the house when we do. (again: Birgit works from home most days, coming and going is usually no problem at all; think of Birgit as your personal door person! Letting you in whenever you get home.). We accept guests only when Birgit works from home.
If Jason has time then he can include you in his breakfast ritual, please check with him the day before. Usually he makes oats in the morning and has a french press coffee. We take £2 for this breakfast. (Porridge oats, banana or apple, a french press coffee & Jason's sleepy company. It is a nice way to start the day).

••• Special Note to Guests: •••
We really look forward to hosting you! Even if we are busy and vary in how much time we can spend with you. Please feel welcome and comfortable in the space.

Interaction with guests

How much time I can spend with guests depends on my schedule, I have a couple of Liverpool maps that you may borrow and can help you finding your way around Liverpool.

I work from home and it varies how much time I have to socialize but it should always be enough time to make you feel comfortable and welcome.

Other things to note

TEMPORARY until the Guestroom is tidied:
••• There are various boxes temporarily stored in the guest room, it is a bit eccentric. We lowered the nightly price accordingly. But the room and bed are clean, refreshed before each guest's arrival. Right now the picture of the guest room is not 100% accurate until we find a place for the extra boxes that we are storing in the room.
••• I use exclusively Environmentally friendly cleaning products; and the pillows are usually double cased in 2 x 100% cotton covers (for your comfort & general hygiene), the towels are reasonably large and it all adds up; which is why, with hesitation, I now charge a modest cleaning fee to cover the laundry detergent, electric use and a little of my time spent refreshing the guest access areas.
•••• All bedding covers are 80% (minimum) - 100% cotton for more comfort than synthetic materials. Most of my bedding is white, some single plain colours. (Just in case you don't like cheap bedding patterns: you will be safe here!)
••• We remove our shoes inside the apartment. You can walk inside and then in the first 3 meters find a spot to take your shoes off.

House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events
Check in time is flexible

We don't smoke in the apartment, but you are welcome to sit on the step outside the house and enjoy your cigarette there.

We are vegetarian. Please don't bring any meat (included poultry) to cook in the kitchen. Sorry.

Please take off your shoes inside the apartment and leave them by the door. You can borrow socks from Birgit to keep your feet warm.

We can't give you our house keys and guests can't stay at home when the hosts are out. This has not ever been a problem because Birgit works from home most of the day. If you let us know your approximate schedule then we will do all we can to plan our day around you as much as possible to make sure that you can come home & stay home whenever is good for you. It is important that you communicate your plans, Birgit is self employed and relies on booking clients and jobs in advance when possible.

We aren't a professional hotel so please understand that we can't offer you the same facilities.

The cleaning fee is used to wash your bedding and towel and to clean the bathroom. It does not include a deep clean of the remainder of my apartment, I would have to set a much higher fee as it is really time consuming to make my eccentric & cozy place sparkle from every pore.. I live in my apartment when you visit and accordingly you will live among my artist (friendly) eccentricity.

We look forward to hosting you even if we are sometimes quite busy and sometimes can't socialize much.

We feel we are offering a nice, sunny bedroom at a very reasonable cost, which will hopefully make your stay here restful.

No parties & loud drunkeness. The house is quiet and everybody enjoys that a lot about living here.

We prefer NO spray deodorants because the scent lingers in the home long after guests leave. Especially men deodorants.. We really do not enjoy them..

p.s. sometimes I write 'we' and sometimes 'I' because sometimes my partner Jason lives with me and other times he is in America. Until the end of February 2017 I will be alone in the apartment.

p.p.s. The neighbour's cat has decided to move into our house, she is now shared between 3 apartments in my house. Sometimes she visits. I can to let her in if you have an allergy to cats. But because she visits sometimes, there may be cat hair around in the spaces that she likes to sleep.

I stayed with Birgit and Jason on a low key business trip to Liverpool. Birgit has gone to a great deal of effort in describing the accommodation and home set up in detail and this was really helpful to me in making my choice, and also highly accurate. I was unable to be in their home a great deal as working long hours, but when there, they gave me a great and warm welcome. The guest room was peaceful and extremely comfortable. If you want 'vanilla' accommodation this is not for you, but if you want to be in an interesting area of Liverpool with good company, then go for it!....

The stay at Birgit and Jason's was very enjoyable. The room is clean, the mattress comfortable and equipped with double sheets and bed linens. Area is easily accessible by bus (both from city centre and from the airport) and train (to and from city centre). I loved how the apartment had an artsy feeling to it, being filled with drawings, paintings and ceramic artwork. But the biggest asset of the stay were the hosts, very friendly and helpful. Both artists, Birgit and Jason like to talk about art, which was very nice. They also helped with sorting out best city attractions and even gave me a little tour of the city by car one day. Definitely recommended.

Bridgit and Jason, You have been amazing hosts! We have stayed one night at your home with our daughter and you made us feel welcome and gave us a 'like at home feel'. What a pity we could only stayed for single night here. Birgit and Jason are SUPER friendly and passionate, the house and room are full of art works, paintings and books make your stay like an adventure! Also, all the spaces are very cozy and clean. Such a great time we shared our traveling and the experience about art and life. If you are the person would like to explore the world, fancy yoga and different culture, energetic, enjoy art and life, you have no other option. Also, they provide the best tips of Liverpool, you could experience Liverpool as a local!

Host made us feel welcome from the moment we step into their artistic home. Birgit even helped us by giving a map of liverpool with all the tourist hotspots and directions to returning to her house. The house is decorated with exquisite drawings and beautifully crafted vase and artifacts. Would definitely recommend anyone who wants who wants more than just a place to stay. 10/10 ! Maer

We (myself, my wife and our little daughter) spent one night at Birgit and Jason’s place. They were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Birgit prepared a nice and cosy room for us, well cleaned and warm, and she offered us some tea when we arrived. Despite being busy, she took the time to sit for a chat and get to know us, and so did Jason despite having just been arrived tired from work (the following morning he did even manage to prepare some extra porridge for our breakfast before going back to work again!) They patiently tolerated our numerous walks in and off the toilet which was positioned right next to their bedroom – hopefully they managed to sleep well anyway. Finally, Birgit enhanced our daughter’s first Airb&b experience by letting her borrow a few soft toys that she could hold tight during the night. In sum, we enjoyed our short stay and would definitely recommend this place. Thanks Birgit and Jason.

We look forward to meeting you:
We will do our best to make the room nice for your arrival.

We love meeting new people but don't socialize a lot when we have work to do. But please feel welcome.

The mattress that we have for you is very comfortable.

Birgit always runs out of shampoo so she can't be so generous with that. But you may use our toothpaste and soap.

We are a German - American couple who have met in Venice 6 and a half years ago and came across Airbnb about 4 years ago. so far we have loved hosting our guests and have been lucky to make friends with some. The extra money helps us out and in return we offer a quiet space, incredibly close to local amenities and transport links.

Jason is a glassmaker, creating art glass & tableware. Birgit makes art, which you can find some of by looking on the web for Dungbeetle and Sisyphus and you will find a video project of her's.

We both trained in Traditional Thai Massage, a variation of acupressure massage and both practice YOGA & Jason also visits a CLIMBING gym 2-3 times a week and we like food, which due to budget is often simple but tasty.

We don't know much about the nightlife in the city and aren't into drinking. (A glass of wine or beer with dinner we do like)

We eat vegetarian. We sometimes make a great Banana smoothy.
