About this listing

Renovated historic bldg: large windows, gorgeous view. Metropolitan decor. Downtown, close to entertainment district and E VIllage, Sculpture Park, WiFi, Bose Bluetooth speakers, bikes. Books! Monitor. Smart TV (Netflix, laptop compatible, no cable tv) bike path, great restaurants, bars and coffee shops.

The space

This loft is styled for and by an artist and for anyone who appreciates a sleek yet cozy MidCentury meets modern aesthetic. Kept its historical feel but modernized with super comfortable queen bed, large lounge chairs, a modern, open loft space.

The location downtown near Gray's Lake and the Sculpture Park is nice and the view can't be beat. Parking in my ramp or free outside all weekend long. Citibikes or ride mine, walk to the GasLamp for blues, Grays Lake for stand up paddle boarding, or ride to the IA Cubs ballpark. I highly recommend catching a concert at the Simon Estes amphitheater.

Guest access

I have a road bike and a beach cruiser. All within a short walking distance, we have a word class sculpture park nearby, a blues bar, food trucks, bew pub, city bikes, fitness centers, the entertainment district: Court Avenue District, Science Center, Civic Center, Coffee, Java Joes, The Ritual Cafe, La Mie, Farmers Market, Bike Path, Principal Ball Park and Gray's Lake a half mile away. There is also a bus station and a free shuttle that will take you to DSM's East Village area - where my fave dining and drinking spots are.

Interaction with guests

I may be traveling but we can have as much interaction you need to feel comfortable whether it's a cup of coffee, a cocktail or a quick exchange of keys.
I want you to love Des Moines - a small, safe but exciting city with big city amenities and culture that Forbes calls the number one city to live in.

Other things to note

We don't have our grocery store built yet. There is a Walgreens nearby but only open til 7:00, also a bodega. Both are on sixth between Walnut and Mulberry. (8 blocks) Gateway Market is within 5 minutes driving with a great little restaurant, it's upscale and expensive but great deli and salad bar. Whole Foods, Trader Joes are a 15 min drive and Price Chopper or a HyVee within ten.

Lara had a great downtown loft, super close to bars/shopping! Awesome spot with a view and I felt right at home. Beautiful apt and a nice furniture collection. Lara made it easy and enjoyable to do a last minute trip to Des Moines!

Lara was fantastic. She accommodated a last minute booking and was super flexible with checkin thanks to delayed flights. The apartment is great, awesome location, and the perfect spot for my trip. Definitely recommend!

Lara was incredibly welcoming from the beginning, agreeing to meet me at her place to give me a key and the tour. She FULLY stocks her fridge with drinks, which speaks to the true care that she puts into hosting her guests. Her space is beautiful and clean. When I'm in Des Moines, I will definitely stay here again. Probably the most beautiful apartment in the city.

Absolutely loved our stay in this unique environment. Lara went above and beyond what's expected to make sure we were comfortable and had what we needed during our stay. The location is conveniently located to Des Moines many downtown offerings and a quick, cheap Uber ride from the rest. I hope to stay again next time!

No worries about the wine. It's all there for you. I get a good price for my loft, so I try to provide those amenities. I am very happy you liked it. I"m a UX designer, painter, and photographer but my love of interior design is crazy. I have a lot of MCM so I am always switching stuff out. I find a lot of good deals. It's not perfect, but in the next year Ill be making a lot of changes. I am so happy you appreciated it. IT's small, but it's quiet and it feels good. That stupid cod eon the dryer - it's not working. The appliances aren't the "best." I don't know if you knew it's called the Crane Artists Lofts so you have to be a creative to live there. Thanks for your kind review. And have a great week. Salud! Laura

Lara was great. We stayed last minute and she had everything in great shape when we arrived. The area was very interesting. Lots to do and see. Great food right across the street.

Laura was awesome at accommodating our late night arrival and even let us leave whenever we needed to on our last day to catch our flight. Even though we never met here, communication was excellent from a month or two before our trip, to a few hours before our flight landed. The apartment space immediately felt like both home and an adorably boutique hotel. It is artsy and cozy at the same time--I want to live there! There was water, beer, and wine in the fridge when we arrived and a plethora of towels in the bathroom. We never had any trouble getting in and everything we needed was there. The location was perfect for trekking through Des Moines and it was easy for us to get to the wedding and afterparty that we were attending. Uber was always close by. As our first AirBnB experience, I can't say enough how great this was. Thanks again, Laura!

Friendly, outgoing, and fun-loving. I am a velocipeder. I fancy coffee and chocolate, mid-century modern, museums and kayaking. I'm a wee bit sassy. I have a restless heart and mind that drives me to travel and meet new people.
Check in and check out times I will go out of my way accommodate your needs. I enjoy the goodwill generated by being an AirBNB host and being part of a sharing economy. I've met interesting people from all around the United States - and a few international. I studied Spanish but I'm rusty!
