About this listing
This is our downstairs spare room and while it is somewhat eccentric (outdoor cold-water shower, no sink) it is spacious, comfortable, private and has a wonderful deck and lawn where you can hear the sea and the beach below. In short, you'll love it!
We have a spare room that we rent, just about 350ft above one of the world's most beautiful beaches. The room is a self contained space ideal for one person, two people or a couple, although we've had families of four stay comfortably in there. There are cooking facilities, a delightful outdoor shower and a toilet inside. It's not the Ritz, but if you want somewhere to stay close to wonderful, empty tropical beach, this will do just great.
We live in a wonderful bay with several other houses overlooking the beach, but not many! This place has a country feel, despite being only 7 minutes over the hill from town. Once you're here you won't find any restaurants or shops etc. within walking distance and the hill back up tot he main road is very steep indeed, so it's worth considering this when you're making eg your transport plan.
Rental car: Our top recommendation for getting around and having the freedom to explore the whole island, access shops etc. Try Dede's Car Rentals if you're here for more than one night. Alternatively check International Car Rental on Tortola. These two will deliver the vehicle to your arrival point and collect from your departure location for no extra charge.
Taxis: These are expensive, so be warned. Airport to our house is around $15 per head That said, plenty of our short-stay guests use them and more and more taxi drivers are now learning where we actually live!
Walking: Serious hikers might enjoy it but factor in the extreme steepness and the tropical heat and ... you better be serious!
Hitchhiking: Can be a great way to go because you meet local people but it takes time and patience. Got both? Use that thumb!
Motorbike/Scooters: An excellent, cheap way to go, BUT be aware that the roads on island are not just steep and winding, but also potholed and otherwise poorly maintained. For this reason, I don't recommend bikes to guests unless they are serious, regular riders who are comfortable the above hazards.
Bicycle: Are you crazy?
We are a family of three (mum, dad and an almost-teen child) living upstairs so we hope guests will respect our privacy as we will respect theirs.
The downstairs shower is outside and has no hot water. That's not usually a problem due to the tropical heat, but if you want a hot shower you're welcome to ask about using the ones upstairs. If it is convenient, we will be happy to let you use ours. If not, sorry, but we hope you understand! (ie we don't leave the house open for guests to come and go while we are out, etc.)
We are friendly, easy going and happy to help you if you need anything.
