West University is a historic neighborhood in Tucson. By Arizona standards, the homes and architecture are old (). The casita was once the carriage house for our home, built in 1918. Later it became a mechanics garage, and was turned into a guest house in 1975 or so. We completed a remodel in 2013.
West University is characterized by students living side by side with professors and other university staff as well as those how have been lured into the emerging urban lifestyle spurred by the revitalization of downtown Tucson the the new Modern Streetcar, coming Spring 2014.
It's a lively neighborhood, with a young spirit, but a maturity of homes and trees that make it a unique Tucson neighborhood.
A bus stop is conveniently located just a block away. The Modern Street Car stops just 2 blocks away in front of Time Market, an eatery featuring wood fired pizza, fantastic sandwiches, produce, some kitchen staples, a wine, beer and coffee bar, and freshly made bakery products. It's a find place to begin or end your day.
If you plan to venture to the desert or mountains, a car would be advisable.
