Description

The space

This 900 square foot guesthouse is located in the historic neighborhood of West University. It features two comfortable bedrooms, each with a quality queen bed and luxury bedding, one bathroom, a fully functioning kitchen, full size washer and dryer, and a large and comfortable living room. Even though the casita is exceptionally comfortable, you'll be tempted to linger in the beautiful and lush garden. Off street parking accommodates two cars. PLEASE NOTE: The "Street View" that shows here, is NOT a view of our street. The neighborhood is historic and charming, though you wouldn't know it to look at what is represented here. I've discussed this issue with Airbnb, but because the feed is provided by , and security concerns, there is nothing that Airbnb can do to solve this conundrum.

The house a full kitchen with dishwasher as well as a barbecue grill on the porch. The HD flatscreen TV serves cable TV and HBO, or you can stream content from Netflix or Hulu Plus through the BluRay DVD player. WiFi is available throughout the property, so you can answer your email while enjoying coffee in the garden.

For long term guests, we provide bi-weekly housekeeping at an additional charge. We provide and a change of linens each week, and clean towels are twice weekly, if desired. Most guests prefer to do their own laundry, but we are happy to do it upon request.

This comfortable pad is located just three blocks from the University of Arizona and walking distance to more than 100 restaurants and bars. If you don't feel like the stroll, use the modern streetcar (coming late spring 2014) to get to where you want to go. It stops just two blocks away. Take it up 4th Ave through downtown, or go the other way through the university and on to University Medical Center. Cultural events are easily accessed by foot or light rail, too. Enjoy five venues presenting live theatre (including Arizona Theatre Company, and the Rogue Theatre), Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Arizona Opera, and UA Presents at Centennial Hall, as well as student productions of dance, theatre, and music.

This really is an urban oasis.

Guest access

Our guests are welcome to enjoy the garden and the various areas within it. There are two outdoor dining areas, and a barbecue awaits outdoor grilling just outside the door to the casita.

Interaction with guests

We are happy to share our recommendations for our favorite nightspots and eateries. We are also happy to make reservations for you. Some folks enjoy hanging out in the patio, while other are more private. Either way, it's up to you. If we're not sure what you'd like, we'll ask.

The neighborhood

West University is a historic neighborhood in Tucson. By Arizona standards, the homes and architecture are old (). The casita was once the carriage house for our home, built in 1918. Later it became a mechanics garage, and was turned into a guest house in 1975 or so. We completed a remodel in 2013.

West University is characterized by students living side by side with professors and other university staff as well as those how have been lured into the emerging urban lifestyle spurred by the revitalization of downtown Tucson the the new Modern Streetcar, coming Spring 2014.

It's a lively neighborhood, with a young spirit, but a maturity of homes and trees that make it a unique Tucson neighborhood.

Getting around

A bus stop is conveniently located just a block away. The Modern Street Car stops just 2 blocks away in front of Time Market, an eatery featuring wood fired pizza, fantastic sandwiches, produce, some kitchen staples, a wine, beer and coffee bar, and freshly made bakery products. It's a find place to begin or end your day.

If you plan to venture to the desert or mountains, a car would be advisable.

Other things to note

Arizona Sonora Desert Museum
San Xavier Mission
Sabino Canyon
Tubac Artist Colony
Nogales, Sonora, Mexico (you'll need your passport)

Peter's place is a warm and welcoming spot! Comfortable beds, nice kitchen and a relaxing space all around made our stay just what we needed. Next time we are in Tucson, we hope his casita will be available- its our first choice!

Peter's place is wonderful and the garden is so relaxing. As a super host in Nashville, I appreciated all the small touches like snacks, fresh flowers and nice robes. Pictures can sometimes be deceiving but his place was as lovely as the photos showed.

The Urban Oasis is truly that. The casita is charming and well furnished and the garden is beautiful and a restful spot to read or have a glass of wine. Everything was spotless and Peter had provided coffee and other food to get me started until I could get to a grocery. Peter and Jeff were extremely prompt to respond when I called with any questions.

Great hosts! The communications were easy and they were very responsive. We felt very welcomed. Clean and tidy accommodations. The garden area was a big bonus and added a lot to the feel. And the central location is unbeatable!

Our stay at Peter and Jeff's casita was perfect. The location is wonderful, just a few blocks from the university and not far from great restaurants. But the best part is that we felt truly at home in this comfortable and beautifully decorated casita. After a day of exploring Tucson we had everything we needed and a super comfortable bed at night. The garden setting was lovely and we enjoyed a glass of wine there many nights. We hope to return to Tucson and if we do we will definitely stay at this beautiful casita again.

Peter's 'garden oasis' was the perfect space for our stay in Tucson, with its' spacious interior and attention to detail throughout. We were told to regard the house as our home away from home, and that was truly so easy to do since it was equipped with most all the essentials we needed to feel comfortable immediately. We honestly could not have asked for a better experience. The location is also worth mentioning in that it is quiet, conveniently located and populated with restaurants, public transit the university and more. We will need to find time to study the history evidenced throughout the area on one of our subsequent trips. We wholeheartedly recommend this true oasis and hope that it will be available for us to use again soon!

Thank you Ron, for the beautiful review. Next time you visit I'll share some history of the casita and of the area as well. See you again, we hope. PB&J

Peter is a native of Arizona, and Jeff migrated here from NYC by way of 35 years in Ontario, Canada. Jeff is a professional artist and much of the work on display in the casita is his. Peter has a day job, but in his spare time, he enjoys throwing pots in the clay studio.

We have three dogs who are very well socialized and always enjoy a good scratch behind the ears.
