  • Jose hosted us the night before we flew home. He arranged for a cab to pick us up early in the morning and even got up early enough to whip us up some eggs.

  • we stayed at vida tropical twice--once after landing at SJO and then the night before we flew out. Isabella is a great host. Both rooms that we stayed in were clean, quiet and comfortable. the breakfast was also very good. we met several different people while staying there. please do be careful when going out. as all the guidebooks state, beware of petty thieves. my wife had her purse stolen off of the back of a chair in a coffee shop within an hour of us being in Costa Rica. we should have been more alert to our surroundings. Alajuela is definitely as as safe as any other city. The people are very friendly and helpful. one day we had a teenager just start walking and talking with us down the street because he saw that we were americans, & he just wanted to practice his english, which was very good.

  • great and peaceful place, I stayed there twice after my arrival and before my depart. Great room, nice breakfast and helpful staff.

  • My wife and I stayed at Vida Tropical at the beginning and end of our vacation in Costa Rica. It's the perfect location if you're flying into the San Jose airport, but not planning on spending much time in San Jose itself. Jose was a wonderful host and Silvia was a terrific cook! The accommodations were fantastic, with well-appointed rooms (each with a different name like "Bamboo" or "Fish"), WiFi, and a pet rabbit in the backyard. I would HIGHLY recommend Vida Tropical to anyone traveling to Costa Rica!

  • Vida Tropical is a really wonderful place to stay. We stayed there coming into C.R. and leaving C.R. It is very convenient to SJO. The rooms are comfortable and clean and quiet. The breakfast was very good. Isabella operates a top-notch operation. It is within walking distance to several good restaurants, including Jalapenos, Isabella's husband's restaurant, which served excellent Mexican food. Unfortunately, my wife's purse was stolen in a restaurant off of a back of a chair within an hour of getting there. It was our fault for not putting it in our lap or next to us. We saw a video of the theft, and the man knew what he was doing. Just be aware of your surroundings. It is actually quite safe, and the people are very friendly.

  • I nearly forgot to mention: Isabela (who works at Vida Tropical) and her husband, Norman, (who are both wonderful people), have a FANTASTIC (and not pricey) restaurant a few short blocks from Vida Tropical called "Jalapeño Central". Definitely check it out!

  • I really enjoyed my stay at vida tropical: rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. there is a nice patio as well and a terrace with a hammock and a view of the city. jose', the owner, is very friendly and helfpful. the location is optimal: in a quiet neighborhood, not far from the aiport (but not on the flight routes) and at a reasonable distance from san jose'. I will definitely stay there again if I go back to costa rica!

  • Like most guests staying at Vida Tropical, I needed a safe, quiet guesthouse near the airport. It was just right. There were several places for other travelers to hang out. Most were checking email, etc and getting ready to go home. It was comfortable and friendly. They arranged my taxi($4) to the airport for 6:00am flight. Nice. I walked to Jalapeños for dinner with another guest. Perfect way to end my trip

  • WONDERFUL HOME AWAY FROM HOME. WAS MADE TO FEEL THAT I BELONGED HERE, WITH DINNER MADE BY JOSE AND SERVED WITH LOVE. A CHANCE HAPPENSTANCE BUT A PLEASURE!!!!!!!! JUST A $6 RIDE FROM THE AIRPORT IN A RED CAB. NO BETTER ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jose Pelleya's Tropical B&B is a short taxi ride away from the airport, in a neighborhood of Alajuela. We arrived in the evening, tired and hungry from a long day of travelling. We asked the night manager if we could have some bananas and he offered to make an omelet for us and made sure we were comfortable. Sylvia, the resident chef, made us a lovely breakfast in the morning. When we had trouble with changing flights in the morning and missed our ride to Dominical, Jose drove us to meet a friend who happened to be in San José who drove us to Dominical. So kind of Jose to make sure we were able to make the connections we needed! This is a great, economical place for families to stay because the room we had contained a queen sized bed plus large bunk beds. We shared a bathroom with one other family, but it was extremely clean and spacious and there was never any problem in using the facilities. We enjoyed meeting Jose and look forward to staying again when we return to Costa Rica. A home away from home.
