Description

The space

This is a quiet room with private bath that overlooks a huge backyard. Windows on two sides make it especially light and airy. The room is large (13'x16') and has a queen bed, ample work space, a comfortable upholstered chair and lots of closet space. It has a mini-fridge, teapot, coffeemaker and microwave. The room is listed for double occupancy, but it is adjacent to another, smaller room with a twin bed that can accommodate another guest for an additional $40/night. (See Room #2.) Ideal for a small family or close friends. (Altogether, there are four bedrooms on this unoccupied floor. Use of the other rooms may be negotiated for a larger group or family.) We book only one guest or group at a time, so you will have the private bath to yourselves.

Guest access

The top floor is the guest floor. It is very private and roomy. From time to time there may be a family guest staying in one of the other rooms, but most of the time no one else passes through. And to get there, you don't have to pass through anyone else's living space. (The top floor is two flights up, not too bad, but it may not be ideal for people with knee problems.)

Interaction with guests

I live in the house (on the 2nd and 3rd floor)
and will be available with help or suggestions if needed.

The neighborhood

Park Slope is a low-key, easy-walking, bike-friendly neighborhood, one of New York's famous "most livable." It's a short 5-10 minute walk to some of Brooklyn's greatest attractions, among them: Prospect Park, The Brooklyn Museum, The Botanic Gardens, The Barclay Center and The Brooklyn Academy of Music. It's got great shopping, bars, restaurants and music and comedy venues. And trees!

Getting around

The Q, B, N, R, 2/3 and 4/5 trains are all within a 5 minute walk. There's street parking if you have a car and bike rentals within a few blocks.

We really loved our stay at Deborah's place. We had two bedrooms at the top floor of a beautiful brownstone house with our own bathroom. The neighborhood was quiet but really charming and there were a lot of nice shops and restaurants just around the corner, even as 2 subway stops. Deborah is a kind and friendly woman, who let us do whatever we want but gave us some really good advice for experiencing New York at our best. We would definitely recommend this place if you like to see Manhattan and Brooklyn both!

Deborah's space is spacious, comfortable, clean, quiet and aesthetically very attractive. Comfortable chairs, a large desk and lots of closet space were very welcome. The renovated bathroom is small but well designed and immaculate. A few steps down the hall, is another bedroom with a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker for guests. Staying at Deborah's was a delightful experience that we hope to repeat when next in Brooklyn.

Deborah's place is so convenient when we come to Park Slope to visit our little "grands". This is our second time staying here. It is always clean and Deborah is a lovely hostess. We will be back!

Just as last time I really enjoyed staying at Deborah! The room is spacious and well equipped and the bed big and comfy. Park Slope is a very nice area as well.

This is my second time at Deborah's, which is ideal in so many ways--just look at her reviews! The place is clean, charming, close to restaurants, shops, many subway lines...what more is there to say if you want to enjoy Brooklyn and Manhattan?! Deborah and her family are lovely to boot.

I have lived in Brooklyn, NY for 30 years and have three grown children. I am a retired public gardener and an avid urban farmer. (We have a beehive, vegetable beds, fruit trees and three chickens!) I teach adult literacy at the Brooklyn Central Library. I love to travel -- most recently to SE Asia and Oaxaca, Mexico -- but am always happy to come home to New York's best borough -- Brooklyn.
