The neighborhood

San Marcos la Laguna is a quiet tranquil place that receives eco-spiritual tourism. A place to reflect and rejuvenate the soul.
The Bamboo Palace is next door to Escuela Caracol and La Cambalacha Proyecto Cultural. We are a 10 minute walk to the lake and on the path into the mountains on the way the The Yoga Forest.

Getting around

You only need your legs in San Marcos, it is a small town and convenient to walk everywhere. To visit other towns on the lake we either go by lancha (little ferry boat) or tuk-tuk.
From Guatemala city, take a private or collective shuttle (US$25) to San Marcos la Laguna. We can arrange a private shuttle for you with our trusted drivers if you wish for Q800 (US$115). The trip is 3-4 hours. Arriving into town follow the riverbed (dry during the dry season) until you see a stony path leading up into the mountains. Follow the path for 200m until you see Escuela Caracol's gate and a large hexagonal white school building, and then the Bamboo Palace is the next gate up the path on the left.

Other things to note

A gardener will come by each day to water the garden and check the property, he can assist with things such as replacing the gas tank for you.
A girl comes to clean the house for an hour each day, she will sweep, remove compost, wash dishes etc.

Stunning home and garden. If you'd imagine an ideal bamboo home this would be it. The fine details in decor and comfort, the gorgeous yard, the amazing hot shower (not a given here), and the ambiance, are just perfect and beautifultreat to stay here.

The Bamboo Palace is beautiful. It's very quiet and peaceful. The landscaping and garden were beautiful. Only additional advice: make sure you bring a flashlight when you head out for dinner, as the path to the house is very dark at night.

Beautiful house! We loved to stay at Hayley's place, it has everything that we were looking for. Very comfortable and peaceful. Everything was as described in airbnb. It's around 10 min walk away from town.

Everything about the Bamboo Palace was ideal. It's absolutely beautiful and serene. Very comfortable. Sitting out on the balcony listening to the birds and occasional raindrops was a highlight of our stay. The location was ideal, not in the middle of the hustle bustle of town but very close to it all. Hayley gave us some great recommendations for food, massage and other things to do in town. Her Yoga Forest retreat is a 20 minute walk up the hill and well worth a look. It's a magical place.
