  • In a word: wow. This place is amazing. I really don't even know where to start. After a long journey from Bangkok on the train, we arrived at the Koh Samui port about an hour after we were supposed to and no way of contacting our host due to dead cellphones and computers. I called the number of Steven's neighbor that he left with me from a pay phone and he literally bent over backwards to help us out. He found our cab guy and got us to the house in about 10 minutes. The pictures really do not do it justice. The beach is so spectacularly beautiful its heartbreaking, and ever day at sunset some of the local farmers walk their 3000lb bulls down to the water to wash them. At first we thought maybe we weren't in the best location because we were about a 20 minute scooter ride from the main spots like Chaweng, but honestly after spending one evening over there with all the people and noise and bumping bass from the clubs, we were spectacularly happy to escape back to our quite and peaceful bungalow. This place has the works, tv, a ton of great quality dvds, fully supplied kitchen and bathroom. We found a supermarket and cooked most of our food at home (before this trip I spent a month in Northern Thailand on a culinary study abroad learning pan-Asian cuisine and I was eager to try out my new skills). The neighbors are extremely helpful and nice and most of them spoke English and seemed to be Western ex-pats of some type or another. Talk about interesting stories! One night we decided to venture over to Koh Phagnan for the half-moon party and we found it to be an hour journey, with travel to the docks and ferry time included. Haad rin beach is simply spectacular and I highly recommend a visit. Also, we ate at a little restaurant right on the corner that had amazing fried rice and we ended up renting scooters from the woman who worked there. She was very, very nice and would come out and wave at us whenever we took off on our next adventure. I can honestly say that I would recommend this place to everybody. Families and couples traveling alone will like it for the peace and tranquillity, and younger people looking to party would have no problem getting to the party from here, as long as you don't bring it back! Seriously, don't be lured into the gimmicks of Chaweng, this place is where it's at.
