The neighborhood

The Spanish Arch (An Póirse Spáinneach) in Galway city, Ireland, was originally an extension of the city wall from Martin's Tower to the bank of the Corrib, as a measure to protect the city's quays, which were located in the area once known as the Fish Market (now Spanish Parade). It was constructed in 1584.
In the 18th century the Eyre family of Eyrecourt, County Galway, created an extension of the quays called The Long Walk and created the arches to allow access from the town to the new quays. The Spanish Arch is located on the banks of the River Corrib directly across from The Claddagh.

In 1755, the arches were partially destroyed by the tsunami generated by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.
Until 2006, part of the Arch housed the Galway City Museum. At that time, the museum was moved to a new, dedicated building located just behind the Arch.
The Long Walk is a promenade to one side of the Arches.

This home worked great for me, my wife, and our 1-year old son. The apartment complex is right on the River Corrib, which is scenic and a lively spot for local students to spend time. Parking was a bit difficult, but Aoife was kind enough to offer to reserve us a private parking spot in the parking grage nearby for only an additional 5 Euro a day. The home is small, but decorated beautifully. There were plenty of amenities including lots of hot water, dishes and silverware, a small fridge, and a hair dryer. Aoife was nice enough to leave some eggs, rashers (bacon), and fruit for us, and allowed us to use some of her condiments, etc. The apartment is perfectly located, central, and within easy walking distance of restaurants and pubs both in the center and across the river. Our only issue was that we were searching for 2 bedroom locations on AirBnB (a seperate room for our son), and when we booked we did not realize this is only a 1 bedroom apartment. To be clear, this *is* clearly written on Aoife's listing, but for a "2 bed" apartment we were expecting something larger. Our son's crib easily fit in the main bedroom with us, however. Highly recommended!

This flat is perfect by all measures. Great layout. Squeaky clean. Fully stocked kitchen. Plenty of hot water. In addition to already being a splendid location, it's a mere five minute walk to the Latin Quarter. And then there's Aoife, who is the picture of hospitality. She left us breakfast items for a few days, checked in regularly, and made our check in and check out process so easy. Anyone staying in Galway would be well served to stay here.

The home is perfectly located and beautiful inside and out. The area feels safe (all of the city felt safe to us) and extremely accessible for all the sights. Aoife was amazing from booking to check out. 10/10 would recommend to a friend or return myself someday! Galway is a blast and this home is the perfect spot to recharge. The apt had everything you could need/want!

Thank you so much to Aoife, for being such a wonderful host and finding my friends phone and bringing it to her. Talk about going out of her way to accommodate us. We had car parking right beside the house, very convenient. The fridge was full of breakfast and even diet coke!!! The flat was lovely, very clean and tidy well equipped and we really enjoyed our stay. We would be delighted to return again.

We enjoyed our weekend at Aoife's place. The apartment was spacious for the 3 of us, and the location perfect, central yet tranquil with a pretty courtyard outside. Aoife had set up the place for a comfortable stay with some goodies for our breakfast. She was very responsive when we had some problems with getting in and other minor issues. We also appreciated having the secure car park. Thanks for a great stay Aoife.
