About this listing
Charming and well-appointed shingled cottage nestled in a lush, private setting. Sought-after "south of the highway" location. Near ocean, town, wineries and all Hamptons attractions. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, CAC. Your relaxing retreat in the heart of the Hamptons!
Prime "South of Highway" location, near the ocean and lively Bridgehampton village. Surrounded by estates, farmland and equestrian properties, the setting is superb.
Convenient to all Hamptons destinations, Bridgehampton, itself a destination village with appealing restaurants and shops, is also located within a short drive to the historic towns of Southampton, Watermill, East Hampton and Sag Harbor.
Nearby you will find a host of great dining venues, delightful shops with lovely things that nobody needs, a children's museum, a world class art museum and several interesting historical preservation sites, sprawling vineyards (there are three vineyards within about a five mile radius) and authentic farm stands (one right down the street). The Atlantic Ocean is about 2 miles away (beach parking is around $40 per day July - September), and there are also numerous bays and inlets nearby to take in the beauty of nature.
You just want a lazy day at home? That's great, you may never want to leave anyway - just hang out in this bucolic and natural setting and relax. Lounge around on the deck, dine al fresco - you can even shower outdoors if you want to. If the weather does not cooperate, cozy up by the fireplace with a good book (or watch funny cat videos on Youtube - no judgments here). Note: There is NO pool.
Tucked away in a private enclave, this shingled cottage provides the ideal setting for gatherings of family and friends.
The yard is very private, and you can let the outdoors in with three sets of French doors that open onto the large deck.
Large great room features cathedral ceilings, French doors opening to large deck and yard, antique farm table), open kitchen with stainless appliances, leather furniture in living area with woodburning fireplace. Interesting artwork and decor, not your typical bland rental.
Three bedrooms (Master with en suite bathroom, queen bed and French doors to deck, one bedroom has two twin beds, the other bedroom has a full bed), two bathrooms total. Sleeps six comfortably. Both bathrooms are nicely renovated. There is central air conditioning, and laundry in separate utility room.
Of note for the mobility impaired: Everything is on one level (no stairs). However, there are three steps up the front stoop, and the bathrooms, though reasonably spacious, are not designed for wheelchair accessibility.
Fully equipped, just bring your clothes and toiletries.
PETS on a case-by-case basis - ask!
Location! Style! Comfort! Privacy! You can have it all for an enjoyable getaway.
NOTE: Location is only about 2 miles from the Hamptons Classic Equestrian Event and 2.5 miles from the Nova's Ark Project, for those attending events there.
Guests will have the whole house for themselves.
Interaction with guests
I will be available by phone for any questions but will be hands-off and not intrusive.
Don't make the mistake of getting a house in the middle of the woods somewhere or a neighborhood that looks like a subdivision in Ohio. This is "the" neighborhood to be: "south of highway" is synonymous with prestige in the Hamptons, and for good reason.
Although replete with McMansions, the idyllic character of the area remains, thanks to neighboring open farmland (there is a farm stand just down the road), equestrian facilities and many beautiful cottages and manicured estates. A quick drive or bike ride (or a long walk) to the ocean beach or into town (about two miles).
This home is on the Watermill / Bridgehampton town line. It is also centrally located within the Hamptons, affording good access to the other towns. It is about a two hour drive from NYC (depending on traffic), a quicker ride than, for example, East Hampton.
The picturesque villages of Watermill and Bridgehampton have a number of excellent and lively restaurants, interesting shops and numerous architecturally significant buildings. There is also a nearby large suburban style shopping center that has easy parking, a 24 hour supermarket, Staples, Kmart and other boring stores where you can get all the necessities. East Hampton, Southampton and Sag Harbor are all readily accessible, too (within a 10 - 20 minute drive).
Driving is about 2 hours from NYC (depending on traffic). The LIRR and Hampton Jitney from NYC both have stops in the village of Bridgehampton, about 2 miles away. There are usually taxis waiting for arrivals or you can call ahead for a pickup.
Please don't smoke in the house - this is a good time to quit! (or smoke outdoors).
Pets on a case-by-case basis. Well-behaved pets are welcome, but vicious and/or destructive pets are not. If bringing a pet, please let me know ahead of time and describe the beast and its proclivities. An additional security deposit may be required.
Although the train station and Hampton Jitney stop (to New York City) are about 2 miles away, you ought to have a car to explore the Hamptons.
