SUMMARY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL THIS:

BEAUTIFUL / LIGHT / SAFE / CENTRALLY LOCATED / ELEVATOR / DOORMAN / DOUBLE BED + QUEEN AIR BED / WiFi + PREMIUM CABLE / 32" FLAT SCREEN / TINY KITCHEN / SHEETS + TOWELS /ACCOMMODATES 2 (3 UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES)

This apartment was a finalist in Apartment Therapy's Small, Cool 2010 Contest

Beautiful and light one bedroom next door to the U.N. in Midtown East. On the fifth floor of a historic elevator building with 24 hour doorman.

Beautifully decorated, the apartment features a double bed in the bedroom, plus a queen airbed that can be brought into service if needed. It sleeps two very comfortably, three under certain circumstances.

There is a walk-in closet with plenty of hanging space, plus a small chest of drawers for your use. A hair dryer, travel iron, and umbrella are available. Please bring your own soap and toiletries.

In the living room there is a large, comfortable couch for lounging or TV watching, a small writing table (can be used as a bar for entertaining), a reading chair by the window and a dining table, too. A bookshelf holds a small, diverse collection of books, and I have maps of the city and subway system for you to borrow.

There is an A/C unit, or you can open the windows in nice weather. Warning: this is New York City -- when the windows are open, it is not particularly quiet!

High speed internet, (bring your own laptop), 32" flat screen TV, premium cable channels, DVD player and small library of movies.

Small kitchen mainly suitable for warming up food and fixing drinks. Please look at the picture and judge for yourself whether it will fit your needs if you want to cook a lot -- definitely not made for elaborate cooking. All the basics are there: small stove, oven and fridge, toaster oven and microwave, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. Also, ice bucket, bar tools and wine glasses for entertaining or quiet evenings with a drink.

Fresh, clean sheets and plenty of towels are provided, and there are 6 pillows there, some feather/down and some synthetic. Laundry facilities are in the building, or your laundry can be done for you for an added fee.

There is a 24 hour convenience store directly across the street as well as around the corner. Within two blocks you will find: a 24 hour drug store, cafe/bakery, dry cleaner, fruit stand, two health food stores, gourmet supermarket, bank, organic hair salon, post office, and much, much more.

There are many wonderful restaurants and take out places within a block, and TONS within 3 blocks.

From the building it is a 6 minute walk to Grand Central, where you can get a subway to almost anywhere. A bus stop is a 2 minute walk in either direction. It's super safe and secure, with a 24 hour doorman, security cameras within the building. There also happens to be a lot of extra security along the street because of proximity to U.N., but even without all that, it's simply a nice, safe area (though I think almost all of Manhattan is nice and safe).

What else can I tell you? Just ask!

  • About: I am a 50-something design enthusiast and live part-time in New York so I can be near my three grown kids. When I'm not in NY, I rent out my place on airbnb, and recently fixed up and added a second one. I think this site is great and I've met some very wonderful people this way. I love decorating on a shoestring, combining thrift shop finds with newer pieces. In fact, one of my listings was a finalist in Apartment Therapy's Small, Cool 2010 Contest. Both listings are in a historic Art Deco building, and are decorated in an eclectic style with a strong Mid-century flavor. I hope you will love them as much as I do! I welcome all and am gay-friendly.
