About this listing
Since 2000- jungle home on a private acre of gardens, w/privatepool, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths and full kitchen. On site caretakers, 24/7 security. Anna offers reasonable Tico Style meals, extra housekeeping and baby sitting. TV, stereo, wi-fi, tours/transportation. Our house is a wonderful place for viewing animals and birds. In one recent day we saw 27 different birds, including Scarlet Macaws and Toucans. There are Titi and Whitefaced monkeys and the occasional sloth. 5 star reviews over 13 yrs!
Manuel Antonio is CR's favorite beach destination, but that can mean being crowded along the one road to the beaches. Our house is 500 yds. off the busy road, on an acre of gardens, private but secure w/ 24/7 on-site caretakers. Anna and Andres have been with us for 15 yrs and are there for any of our guests needs at any time. The 3 bedrooms have AC and the entire house is screened with overhead fans, but you can open everything to the outdoors.
The entire house opens up to the outside decks and terraces. Sit on the front deck and use your lap top. Our private pool is perfect for cooling off and watching the wildlife overhead. A covered roof top deck puts you at eye level with an amazing variety of birds and animals. Extra security system is installed for nights and when you leave the property.
Interaction with guests
Our caretakers respect your privacy, but if you want to practice your Spanish, or cook a Tico meal with Anna she will gladly come to the house or take you to the markets in Quepos. Andres has a van and offers transportation around the area as well as airport pickups to San Jose or our local airport.
Our neighbor hood is very secure with high end homes and a couple of hotels nearby. The jungle has been allowed to grow back around our neighborhood bringing back an abundance of wildlife to our property. Recently 8 pairs of Scarlet Macaws have been introduced to our area and are seen daily, as well as Toucans and many species of parrots. A five minute walk to the main road lets you access buses and taxis, as well as many bars and restaurants within a few minutes.
If you don't have a rental car (not necessary) Andres has a van available for local rides or to the airport. You can walk 5 min. to the main road where buses come by on the 1/2hr or hail a taxi anywhere- they are cheap.
Other things to note
Our area is the most diverse in Costa Rica: white sand beaches and rainforests with all the amenities you could want on your vacation. Within an hour you can drive N. to Jaco or S to Dominical to check out other resorts areas- you'll be glad you chose Manuel Antonio and Casa Tropical.
We suggest that you don't invited locals back to the house as this is the easiest way to get ripped off. No smoking inside. No pets without permission.
Steve and Mary Lou can't wait to retire, maybe in a couple of years, and spend more time in Costa Rica. Meanwhile life is good in Montana, skiing, fishing and hiking when time allows. Steve has been making art most of his life, and haswriten a memoir of their time in CR called Stumbling into Paradise. He's at work on his first novel set in Montana called Bull's-eye.
